5th- UNKNOWN HINSON
Stuart Daniel Baker, better known by his stage name, Unknown Hinson, is a comedic country musician, songwriter, and voice actor. He is perhaps best known for his role as the voice of Early Cuyler on the Adult Swim cartoon series Squidbillies.
The character
Persona
Unknown Hinson, dressed in his signature rodeo tailor coat and black ribbon necktie, is a dark parody of the country western stars from the 1950s through the mid-1980s. His recorded material has the sonic qualities of a regional country star with access to cheap recording studios and hack producers. With his glued-on sideburns, blacked-out front teeth, and dark hair slicked back to reveal a prominent widow’s peak, he has been referred to as the “hillbilly vampire.” The self-proclaimed “king of country-western troubadours” speaks and sings with an exaggerated southern drawl, commonly pronouncing words like woman “womern,” and window “winder.” Hinson’s personality is that of a hell-raising and hard-drinking country western singer with a preference for “party liquor,” sexy womerns, and fine guitars. Baker has carefully cultivated his alter-ego. Much like Andy Kaufman’s alter-ego, Tony Clifton, Unknown Hinson never breaks character in public and adamantly denies having any connection to Danny Baker.
Fictional background and arrest
Unknown Hinson was an only child named after his father “says right there on my birth certificate—Mama: Miss Hinson. Daddy: Unknown.” and raised by his mother who gave him his first guitar. After his mother’s mysterious disappearance, Unknown ran off and joined the circus as part of the sideshow, where he learned how to lift 50-pound weights with his tongue and a variety of other skills.

11TH-JERRY WIMMER
12TH-URTH
Urth is a newly formed Roanoke trio led by multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Brach Rauchle and backed by bassist Nick Kalen and drummer Tyler Wright. Urth delivers a unique fusion of funk, rock, and jazz. This talented trio cultivates an original sound with tight grooves and progressive compositions. Great musicianship, strong vocals, and dance friendly beats make for a striking new sound.
13TH-SUNNY LEDFURD
I grew up listening to my Mom’s records, Glenn Campbell, Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, The Carpenters, etc… As a teenager I graduated to Guns n Roses, Snoop Dog and David Allan Coe among many. I love to mix genres and push the envelope. I’ve always liked artists that you can tell they have something to say. They’re not just singing some words ’cause it sounds cool. Every song I sing is about ninety percent autobiographical. I can write about partying and drinking because I do it. I write about beautiful women and bitches because I’ve dealt with them. After numerous rejections in the early 2000’s from every major label from Los Angeles to Nashville, I finally made the decision that if I was going to make it I would have to do it myself. All the labels kept telling me was that I
couldn’t say this or that. I was like why not? Have you ever listened to David Allan Coe, Tupac, and Eminem? How the hell did they ever put anything out? It was like because I was white and played an acoustic guitar I was supposed to make some type of yuppie music. I wasn’t going to be a monkey on a string singing songs about falling in love, broken hearts and drinkin’ a six pack. I was chasing girls and getting hammered. I knew if I wanted to do what was really in my heart, where my head was at, I would have to go at it alone… but I wasn’t alone as I would come to find out.
14TH-DRIVN
“The boys are back in town”… and ready to kick ass!!! Come join us!!! Members include Trampus Stamper, Chris Rakes, Jason Litz, Cameron Vaught & Jody Hanshew.
19TH-TAB BENOIT
In 1991, Tab Benoit was hired by Justice Records to contribute songs to a compilation record called STRIKE A DEEP CHORD: “Guitarist for the Homeless.” The record featured Dr. John, Odetta, Gatemouth Brown, Sue Foley, Ronnie Earl, the late Johnny Copeland, and Tab Benoit all recorded tracks for the project . The record’s proceeds were to benefit Houston’s homeless, the city where the label had it’s offices. Tab recorded two tracks “Nice and Warm” and “Bone Pickin” for the record and was immediately signed to Justice Records.
The very next year in 1992 these two tracks would lead Tab’s national debut recording and Tab became the break-out roots Artist of the decade. Radio began playing his music on the same commercial stations that were playing the popular acts of the day such as The Dave Matthew’s Band, Spin Doctors, Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd and the Monsters. It was the first time since the death of the Stevie Ray Vaughn that a new roots Artist was receiving heavy rotation on commercial Rock radio stations across the country.
Since his debut in 1992 Tab has recorded with Junior Wells, Willie Nelson, Billy Joe Shaver, James Cotton, Cyril Neville, Kim Wilson of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Henry Gray, and Jimmy Hall of Wet Willie to name a few and now fifteen solo recordings, three Grammy nominations, and a budding movie career later it may be his work as a wetlands activist that he will most be remembered but until then it is his rich tone, soulful voice, and seeped with tradition song-writing that makes him Louisiana’s #1 Roots music export.
20TH-SIDE SHOW
That 80s rock band that plays other stuff too. Side Show is comprised of veteran musicians from diverse backgrounds. SideShow performs the best in rock-n-roll from the 70s, 80s,90s and today. If you like the 80s hair-bands, you’re going to love SideShow!!!
21ST-BALLYHOO ANS SPECIAL GUESTS AER
BALLYHOO! is undeniably turning the world of music upside down and sideways as they blur the lines between rock, reggae, punk and pop to craft their own hybrid of music that can’t be held down to one definitive genre. This signature sound of theirs is one they have been perfecting since their high school days in Aberdeen, Maryland – the sweet melodic voice of lead singer and guitarist Howi Spangler; the hard hitting beats set forth by brother and drummer Donald “Big D” Spangler; the skillfully added funk of bassist JR Gregory and Scott Vandrey (aka DJ Blaze) rounds it out on the turntables and keys.
BALLYHOO!’s unique sound, hardcore devotion to the road and to their fans, partnered with their irresistible “life of the party” approach have pitched them into the position of America’s favorite feel good party band. They didn’t get here by accident; rather, they had been single-handedly growing their empire through unparalleled hard work and dedication until Jan 2011, when they got a well-deserved nod from LAW Records and were signed to the Hawaii-based independent record label. Yesod Williams of the dub rock music mega-sensation PEPPER and owner of LAW Records says of his newest addition, “Having BALLYHOO! join the LAW Records family is a perfect fit. They are an incredibly talented band with a really catchy style”. Now, with the backing of LAW, 2011 promises to be a paramount year on BALLYHOO!’s trajectory destined for greatness!
“On every song, there is an instrumental that is amazing, like something you would expect from Slightly Stoopid, who happens to be their best comparison, since Aer adds doses of reggae, alternative, hip-hop, electronic, and even a bit of pop”
— Good Music All Day
“Aer has a really vibey, mellow sound that I am a huge fan of. They do all their own production, and as far as production quality goes this tape is extremely impressive. I love how they blend hip hop, reggae, dub, and acoustic jams all into one. I’ve compared them to Sublime and Slightly Stoopid, and I really think they have enough talent to get to a similar level of popularity. That’s a big endorsement, but these kids are simply very talented.”
27TH-MADRONE
Virginia’s premiere unsigned rock act; MADRONE combine intricate riffs, earth shaking drums, driving bass, and impassioned vocals to form a sound unlike any other.
In the almost 5 years the band has existed; Madrone has created an enveloping, inviting and massively intriguing sound. Mixing elements of hardcore, psychedelic and modern alternative rock within Madrone you find breakdowns as heavy as Lamb of God, multilayered guitars reminiscent of Pink Floyd and stadium-sized, fluid choruses.
28TH-SHOREFIRE-
In late 2009, this group transformed from an acoustic trio known as
The Homewreckers to the electric act Shorefire. Within a year, they were performing nightly shows throughout SW Virginia and supporting nationally touring acts.
Shorefire’s sound is a smorgasbord of original surf-reggae, funk and rock music. They maintain radio-friendly hooks and always keep their audience on their feet. As they expand their crowd and fan-base they hope you will join them.
Shorefire has shared the stage with:
Toubab Krewe, The B Foundation, The Mike Pinto Band,
Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, Proverbial, Relacksachian, Half Moon,
Lazy Man Dub Band, Slideways, Allen Thompson, DJ Williams Projekt, Electric Chameleon, Former Champions, Barrelhouse and many others.
