Jackson Browne, Drive-By Truckers, Jonathan Wilson added to FloydFest 11 lineup. Related — Floyd Fandango goes on hiatus
The lineup, already looking as exciting as a FloydFest lineup has looked, has just gotten bigger. Classic rock god Jackson Browne, ne0-Southern rockers Drive-By Truckers and Jonathan Wilson, a Browne protege, are on the bill. According to a FloydFest e-mail, Wilson is coming at Browne’s request.
Browne, whose albums such as “Running On Empty” and “Late for the Sky” were massive hits that also further burnished his singer/songwriter cred, has continued to record impressive albums. He will be playing the main stage on Thursday, July 26.
Drive-By Truckers, who have been alt-rock heroes since the release of “Southern Rock Opera” in 2001, are scheduled to play the main stage on July 27.
Wilson, a North Carolina native, has worked with Browne, Erykah Badu, Elvis Costello, Robbie Robertson and more. He plays the beer garden stage on July 26.

Fandango on hiatus
In related news, Across the Way Productions, which puts on FloydFest and other festivals, has decided to put Floyd Fandango on hiatus, according to FloydFest co-founder Erika Johnson.
“While Fandango has enjoyed being ‘FloydFest’s little sister,’ all children need to grow up and into a healthy self-sufficiency,” Johnson wrote. “Our resources and creative energies feel too valuable these days to expend on what ends up being a ‘get-the-site-ready’ pre-FloydFest party. That said, we recognize the uniquely special qualities of Fandango, (not the least of these being it’s more intimate size), and are pulling back to evaluate how we make make it more viable on a business level, and still keep it as a public offering. It’s always been our philosophy that if we can’t do something 100%, we’d rather not do it at all, and we think we can take Fandango to the neXt level, too, but only given sufficient time to plan and envision.”

Tad, Check out J. Wilson’s “Desert Raven” if you haven’t already. It reminds me of Early 7o’s Fleetwood Mac. Very cool.

Too bad that the festival that benefits locals has to die so FloydFest can afford performers like like Jackson Browne to help attract the hipster roadtrippers. I’ve loved JB for a long time but don’t quite get what he’s doing at FloydFest.

Will do, Howard. Thanks for the tip!

Well, Tass, I guess they didn’t want to continue losing their wallets on Fandango. Great fest, lightly attended during a holiday weekend (July 4) that has so many options.

What’s Jackson Browne doing there? The same thing that AKUS w/Jerry Douglas will be doing there, the same thing that Levon Helm has done there — play to a huge audience that will love it.

For those that enjoy Jackson Brown you’re in for a treat. At the Clearwater festival in NY we had him and also Drive by Truckers last year, it was a hoot.

Locals, sign up to volunteer today. They’ll work you hard, but it’s worth it for the admission to a wonderful festival. Great times on the mountain!
