Music video — Paul Thorn Band plays ‘What The Hell Is Going On?’ at Kirk Avenue Music Hall on Sunday

Paul Thorn

Paul Thorn

Paul Thorn is an outstanding singer/songwriter, and a fine guitarist. His lead guitar player, Bill Hinds, is a a bad-ass — truly as gritty and musical as anyone you care to hear on slide. Hear them both wail on this Elvin Bishop song, “What The Hell Is Going On?” also the title cut of Thorn’s new album of deep-cut covers. He makes them all his own, as he and his band did on Sunday at Kirk Avenue Music Hall.

While this live version shows what the act can do with the song on the road, Thorn’s manager/co-writer/soundman/etc. Billy Maddox suggested I check out the video Thorn made for the song. So I did, and it’s as intriguing as Maddox described. Check it out here.

This was the last of three sold-out shows last weekend at the music hall, and the sell-outs were well-deserved. With Webb Wilder on Friday, Elizabeth Cook on Saturday and Thorn on Sunday, Kirk Ave. put up one of the strongest three days of live music I have seen in this town.
