Music video — Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks play ‘More Like Me’ at Kirk Avenue Music Hall on June 8

Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks at Kirk Avenue Music Hall

After all these years of touring and recording, Webb Wilder still has something to say. Check out one of his most recent originals, “More Like Me,” which he told the crowd was an attempt to write a New Orleans song, but he didn’t get it any further than Slidell, La. Wilder and the band kicked some butt all night June 8 at Kirk Avenue Music Hall.

It was the first of three sold-out shows last weekend at the music hall, and the sell-outs were well-deserved. With Wilder on Friday, Elizabeth Cook on Saturday and Paul Thorn on Sunday, Kirk Ave. put up one of the strongest three days of live music I have seen in this town.

Tom Comet held the bottom with his usual aplomb. Not-Jimmy Lester smoked the house on drums. Bob Williams tore up the six string electrics… and Webb? Well, there’s a reason the fans and I have been stalking him for more than 25 years. Smokin’ hot. Thanks, all for a great show in a great venue. Kirk Ave Music Hall rocks!
    Please come back soon.

Big Bill, I should have mentioned this. “Not-Jimmy Lester” was Jon Radford, whose many gigs have included Justin Townes Earle, Kenny Vaughan, Drew Holcomb and the mighty, mighty The Dynamites feat. Charles Walker.
