Trampled by Turtles started out as informally as things do, but after nine years, the band has build something very solid. It’s newest disc, “Stars And Satellites,” debuted at No. 30 on the Billboard top 200 pop chart. Pretty impressive for a post-bluegrass act with a new album full of introspective acoustic songs.

We talk with mandolinist/singer Erik Berry about the band’s history, its hometown, Duluth, Minn., and about the new music. We stream “Walt Whitman” from the new album.

Check Tuesday’s edition of The Roanoke Times or roanoke.com/entertainment for a story about the band.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
