Podcast with Newsense from FloydFest act ArtOfficial — smoking hot jazz-funk/hip-hop group from Miami

FloydFest attendees on Thursday are going to get a really cool musical surprise on the Hill Holler Stage. Right between sets from Garage A Trois and Galactic, ArtOfficial will hit the stage. This Miami-based jazz-funk/hip-hop group is the perfect thing to happen between those two bands. Serious and sometimes bitingly funny lyrics from rappers Newsense and Logics dart and bounce over grooves from a band of improvisational cats who never let things get too crazy. It’s all about the groove, after all.

I caught these guys at Martin’s Downtown on July 10, doing a FloydFest preview show. It was awesome. Check out some video from that night.

On this podcast, we talk with the band’s Newsense and stream music from ArtOfficial’s 2011 CD, “Vitamins & Minerals” — “Migraine,” “Rooftop” and “Don’t Hold Your Breath.”

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
