Podcast with Roosevelt Collier of The Lee Boys — Collier plays at Martin’s Downtown tonight with Ben Trout Band
Funky pedal steel guitarist Roosevelt Collier is a man on a road trip. Collier, whose sacred steel band The Lee Boys has played FloydFest, Steppin’ Out and Martin’s Downtown, stops at Martin’s again tonight for a show with the Ben Trout Band.
It’s an early-week wayside on a voyage that took him to Asheville, N.C., neighboring Black Mountain, N.C., then the All Good Music Festival & Campout, at its new location in Ohio. With The Lee Boys on a touring break, it’s just Collier and his steel guitar, jamming with different players up and down the road. Call it the sacred steel sit-in.

On this podcast, we discuss his sit-in adventures at this year’s Jazz Fest in New Orleans, and go back to the roots of his musical history, where church on Sunday means funky, soulful and powerful sacred steel guitar music. Streaming music: The Lee Boys, “Say Yes!”
