Roanoke drummer Sean Deel returns to the pages of Drum! magazine’s “new blood” section

As far as Drum! magazine is concerned, Sean Deel is a “new blood” all-star. For the second time in the past couple of years, the magazine has featured Deel in print and online, in its “new blood” section. This time out, the headline is “a study in showmanship.”

“Sean Deel is one of those players you can’t help watching … as in, all the head-bobs and other quirks of his performance style,” Drum! reporter Waldo the Squid wrote (a most interesting nom de plume). “Of particular note is the whip-like throw that allows him to hit left- and right-side crashes with his right hand on a single upstroke, thereby conserving energy and looking cool in the process (we won’t even hold it against him that he plays along to Nickelback on his demo tape).”

You, Waldo the Squid, might not hold that Nickelback thing against him, but we here at cutNscratch will be sure to rib him about it next time we see him. You can see and hear Deel performing around the Roanoke Valley with country singer Keith Bryant, as well as Jerry Wimmer of The Worx.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
