David Ball, who returns to the Roanoke Valley with a Billys Barn show on Saturday, is a very quotable fellow.

Singer/songwriter Ball, whose record “Thinkin’ Problem” was a multi-million seller back in the day, has since gone indie. Though he he credits his early major label success for the way he is able to conduct his career today, he no longer cares to be on that train.

“I’m just a firm believer that anytime you have anybody in Nashville trying to steer your career, that you’re in trouble,” he said. “You’re in big trouble there. It’s over.”

Hear that quote and more from Ball on this podcast. Also, we stream his latest single, “What’ll I Do.”

Get show details on Ball’s performance and several others in the valley this weekend in tomorrow’s Inside Out, in print or via roanoke.com/extra.

Details: 9 p.m. Billy’s Barn, Salem. $10. 728-0270, facebook.com/billys.barn.1, davidball.com

I was at Billy’s Barn last night and He played almost 2 hrs nonstop. It was the best $10 I have spent in a long time. He is a great Showman and entertainer. I would go see him again even if McGraw or Chesney were in town at the same time.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
