Ah, the intersection of art and commerce. It doesn’t necessarily *have* to be ugly (“Moves Like Jagger” playing on commercials notwithstanding). Spencer McKenna, of Grass Monkey and Welcome to Hoonah, and Fret Mill Music Co. have come up with something that lands on the cooler part of that intersection.

Every Wednesday (starting yesterday), McKenna’s open mic night at Village Grill will feature a pedal and amp demonstration.

“Fret Mill Music Co. and myself think its important to try out a product before buying it,” McKenna wrote in a Facebook post to his open mic page’s wall. “So I will present a few used pedals, and/or an amp in perfect working order to you, at The Village Grill to demo.”

The gear is not on consignment, and is for sale at the Grill.

And the usual types of open mic shenanigans remain on the bill. Each player gets three songs or 15 minutes of performance time.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
