An emerging hip-hop star and two of the most popular acoustic acts on the scene will be playing Virginia Tech’s Burruss Auditorium over the next few months.
Kendrick Lamar, whom The Philadelphia Inquirer thinks will be the “next hip-hop household name,” starts off the VT concert action on Oct. 9. Hoodie Allen opens the show.

Punch Brothers, whose latest CD, “Who’s Feeling Young Now,” sees the band continuing to stretch the boundaries of what bluegrass instruments are supposed to do, plays on Feb. 6. Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers — an act that VT has been trying for a while to get into the auditorium — is booked for March 3.

Tickets for Lamar and Punch Brothers go on sale Friday.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
