Ben Trout is out there playing all the time, solo, as part of a duo or fronting his own trio. He can be found with his band almost every Tuesday at Martin’s Downtown, where recently the band backed up sacred steel guitar great Roosevelt Collier. Plenty of local folks come to sit in, too, and it’s always a good time.

Here is the band playing last Saturday at Blues BBQ. Usually, Carlos Aranguren is on the drums, and that’s a good thing. But on this night, Janiah Allen from Alliens was filling in, and that was a good thing, too. Allen and bassist Cameron McLaughlin have worked together plenty in Alliens, so locking in was not an issue.

The song here, “Hustle,” is one of Trout’s originals, maybe his strongest.
