Big Daddy Love has been coming to Roanoke consistently for a couple of years now. But about six month back, the band made big changes. Daniel Justin Smith, the group’s longtime frontman, left the act to pursue a different tack (he’ll be at Kirk Avenue Music Hall on Oct. 27, opening for Jim Lauderdale).

The band added new singer/guitarist, Scott Moss, and got a new drummer, Scott Lewis (ex-Jackass Flats). You’d think the band would be way different. But nope. It still rocks, and the additions in no way subtract.

From early Sunday morning at Martin’s Downtown, here’s one of the band’s most popular songs, “Circle Around The Sun.” And it’s just as effective a rouser as it has been.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
