The Infamous Stringdusters return to Roanoke on Friday night for a show at Growler’s American Grill and Venue, at Towers Shopping Center. And plenty of the merchandise on sale, including the band’s last two CDs, will feature art from Roanoke-based graphic designer Josh Gibson of Giant Step Design. Read more about Gibson, his connection with the Stringdusters and get show details — including a meet-and-greet on the City Market — at roanoke.com/extra.

On this podcast, we talk with Stringdusters bassist Travis Book, who with his wife, Grammy-nominated songwriter Sarah Siskind, lives on the Devil’s Backbone property where the band hosts its annual event, The Festy Experience. Book and Siskind, who is great with child, will be at Kirk Avenue Music Hall for their own show on Dec. 6. We discuss the Festy, life for the band around Charlottesville, Gibson’s work for the band and a lot more.

I worked The Festy a couple of years ago and had a great time. It is a well run and fun festival. I wish they had power for RV’s, but I’m sure that will happen in the future.

My boyfriend and I have become some what ‘Dusters obsessed… after going to the 2011 Festy, we’ve been to see them for NYE in Charlottesville, an outdoor show also in Charlottesville in May, The Festy 2012, and we already have our tickets to see them on NYE again this year. We’ve traveled up to Devils Backbone on Wednesday nights this summer to see Travis and Sarah play on Bluegrass Night.

The Stringdusters put on one hell of a show, and I’d challenge anyone, bluegrass fan or not, to go see them and not have a great time. Their energy, their passion, and their talent create the perfect storm for a live show.

We are SO looking forward to seeing them in our hometown tonight (though the boyfriend did get to see their show a couple years back at Kirk Ave!) And we’re VERY much looking forward to Sarah and Travis’ acoustic set at Kirk Ave in December!

If anyone reading this is free tonight, I can assure you the $20 ticket price is well worth it. I saw them once and fell in love with them. Their music is incredible, but their live show is one-of-a-kind. Don’t miss this opportunity… they may be “local” to VA, but they’re in the area a lot less than you would think!

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
