His resume is all-star status — it includes performing and recording with the likes of Martha Wainwright, Cake, Teddy Thompson and Burning Spear. But Jim Campilongo’s best music might just be his own.

Campilongo — whose most recent album, “Orange,” runs a genre path through rock ’n’ roll, dark jazz-rock, country-style fingerpicking and moody covers of songs by The Stooges and The Rolling Stones — plays two sets on Friday night at Jefferson Center’s rehearsal hall. The first set is already sold out.

At 4 p.m. Friday, Campilongo will present a clinic on Fender Telecaster guitar techniques and other six-string subjects at Music Lab at Jefferson Center.

Along for the Jefferson Center show will be drummer “Ramblin’” Rob Heath, who just completed Norah Jones’ Japan tour with Campilongo. Jeff Hill (Rufus Wainwright, Shooter Jennings, Juliana Hatfield) will be on bass. Read more and get show details in Thursday’s Inside Out.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
