Swank reunites on Saturday at Martin’s Downtown, in Roanoke. Tickets are long sold out for this show, set for the 20-year anniversary of this onetime valley musical institution’s first gig. The ska/punk-flavored band started when its members were at Lord Botetourt High School, and over the next few years, Swank played all over the country, including New York City’s legendary CBGB’s — and Roanoke’s own legendary nightspot, the Iroquois. Here is some streaming audio from Swank’s final album, “The Think for Yourself Movement” (Fueled By Ramen) — “Almost Heaven” and “Banjo.” Both tracks include some band B.S. sessions, which is pretty fun. But the language is salty, so slap your kids if you catch them listening.

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
