Why would Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles make you pay a cover to play at an open mic???

  4. james west | January 24, 2013 at 7:21 pm

Because they are money grabbing jerks?!?

  5. Tad Dickens | January 25, 2013 at 10:41 am

It’s not the first time that venues or promoters have charged a cover for an open mic. The old Duality Open Mic and Poetry Jam used to have a cover, and having been there for a couple of them, I thought it was worth it. High quality entertainers. That said, I don’t think it’s a good idea generally to charge a cover for an open mic. We’ll see how it works for Thelma’s.

As for you, James West, I deleted the second of your two comments, which was even harsher than the one I approved. I would love it if you ever had anything positive to say on here.

    I positively hate censorship…tadd.

  7. Tad Dickens | January 26, 2013 at 12:17 am

And we positively adhere to standards of conduct on our blogs here.

  8. Chrystalin | January 26, 2013 at 2:35 pm

Because you getting a live band with singing all night and songs of your choice and its free for women don’t knock the event until you come out thanks open mic every fri and sun as the article stated free for women and $4 for men

  9. Chrystalin | January 26, 2013 at 2:38 pm

I would also like to add if you don’t particularly want to be apart of the event that’s fine but don’t leave negative comments there are people that enjoy this and want to be apart and not hear negative comments thanks again Ted for this blog much respect to you

  10. james west | January 26, 2013 at 7:47 pm

And just where and who came up with the so called “standards of conduct”?? You?

  11. Brittany | January 27, 2013 at 8:42 pm

I have attended many open mics in Roanoke and Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles charges a $4.00 cover for the men and ladies are free. If you are showcasing you talent on the mic your cover is free as well. I think $4.00 is a reasonable price and Thelma’s Chicken and Waffles have to pay the host and band for their time as well as try to make a profit as any business would. Just my thoughts. Thanks
