SUNDAY

Kung Fu

With Atoadaso

This will be the second visit to Roanoke for Connecticut-based Kung Fu, which is a smashing jazz-funk and fusion act. The first time, there was not a weak player onstage as the five-piece act played steaming originals and killed covers such as “Stratus,” popularized by Billy Cobham.

Details: 9:30 p.m. Martin’s Downtown Bar & Grill, Roanoke. $8 advance; $10 door. 985-6278, martinsdowntown.com, kungfumusic.com, soundcloud.com/atoadaso

SUNDAY

Ralph Stanley II

It’s a matinee show at the old movie house, featuring a mountain music scion. The guy they call “2″ has played in his father’s band for years, but is also well-engaged in his own project, including upcoming CD, “Born To Be A Drifter.”

Details: 3 p.m. The Rex Theater, Galax. $10. 537-4082, strummitworks.ticketleap.com, ralph2.com

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
