FRIDAY

Jeff Coffin & the Mu’tet

You know sax and flute man Coffin’s work from Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, and more recently with Dave Matthews Band. But his own band’s work, in our opinion, eclipses both with huge, nasty jazz-funk power. In a huge bonus, Coffin’s show at Growler’s will include the Flecktones drummer, Roy “Future Man” Wooten, on a drum set, as opposed to his inimitable Drumitar. In a podcast with Coffin, the band leader says that Wooten’s drumming is “like water.”

Details: 9:30 p.m. Growler’s American Grill and Venue, Roanoke. $15. 777-0007, growlers-towers.com, jeffcoffin.com

About this blog

cutNscratch is The Roanoke Times music blog. Music reporter Tad Dickens enjoys pickin' and grinnin' and drummin', and he likes to write about music, too. He'll post plenty about local, regional and national music, but it won't be any fun at all if you don't jump in and have your say. So do it!
