Rooster Walk does more than put on its own annual scholarship-granting music festival. For the second year, it is organizing a Martinsville race weekend concert series, set for a venue within walking distance of the town’s iconic paper clip-shaped speedway.
The festival’s organizers this week announced the Turn 5 Concert Series, set for Oct. 25-26 – race weekend.
Southern rock and country band Blackberry Smoke, best known in the Roanoke Valley via opening slots at two Zac Brown Band shows, will headline the Oct. 26 triple-bill. Check out this podcast from January with BBS frontman Charlie Starr. The rest of that night’s bill is not finalized, but it will include up-and-coming acts, Rooster Walk’s Johnny Buck wrote in an e-mail on Wednesday.
Roanoke’s own party monsters The Worx will headline the Oct. 25 race weekend triple-bill.
Advance tickets are $20 for the weekend, $15 for Saturday and $10 for Friday. They go on sale at 8 a.m. Friday via http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/439768.
Like its parent festival, Rooster Walk, the Turn 5 series is a fundraiser – in this case, organizers donated $18,000 from last year’s event to Martinsville regional charities.
Find the Turn 5 venue at 340 Clover Road, Ridgeway, an easy walk to Martinsville Speedway and its campgrounds.
