‘Some boring idiot I’m sure’ (Laura Ingraham fan rant)
Golly, I had forgotten all about Laura Ingraham, the radio host unceremoniously dumped by WFIR-AM back on March 13. That was two whole weeks ago, or 672 lifespans of a Mayfly — or something like that.
Laura’s a useless hack and her show’s a godawful bore (IMHO) and I assume that’s why the only news talk station in all of Roanoke gave her the hook and replaced her with the useful Clark Howard. She wasn’t making them any money, duh.
Bear2mail (read anything you want into that handle), begs to disagree:
You’re an absolute idiot!! WFIR will lose valuable listeners without great programming like Laura Ingraham. You’ll be tossed aside with the likes of Air (not so fast) America and NPR. I wouldn’t advertise with such a short and I mean short sighted station. Actually it’s just a matter of time before we say good riddens to WFIR… Haa -By the way Laura Ingraham I know Don (who??) Casey I don’t. Some boring idiot I’m sure.
‘Riddens’ … right. That’s the proof Bear2mail is a genuine Ingraham fan. Or maybe it’s even Laura herself.
The original post is here.

Ha. Hope you are as kind, tolerant and misguided with your family.
Yet, here you are with a basically unread column/blog on a fledgling paper in a lousy market. Not so sure you’re the one to be knocking on her…
Josh, thank you for reading!
I really miss Laura. I don’t care for Clark. He doesn’t like my SUV, so I listen to Mike and Mike in the morning until Neil Bortz comes on the radio. I still watch Laura on Fox (which has the highest ratings of any news channel).
Want to rant about something how about the stupidity of Roanoke County in not welcoming with open arms and tax incentives the Developer who is proposing a large apartment complex in west Roanoke County. This development would be a tremendous boost the local economy, add much needed tax revenue, and provide housing to people who, for whatever reason do not own a home.
Dan, not sure why you have an axe to grind so bad with Laura Ingraham, but whatever, that’s besides the point. We all have our things.
I did want to say this though. While everyone wants to bash this and that about the Roanoke Times and fine, we all don’t agree with everything that comes off your posts, at least you have the bollocks to speak your mind and on a pretty consistent basis. I appreciate and respect that.
Keep posting.
Dan I disagree with you on this one, and find the way you did so to be distasteful.
The fact that WFIR dropped Laura is the reason I no longer listen in the morning, but to each their own. I don’t find Clark to be entertaining in the least, but I do not believe that I should insult him because of it.
Laura a hack? Godawful bore… Those are inflammatory comments. I can see the bore comment, everyone likes different things. Would you care to back up the hack comment… What say you Dan? Have the intellectual metal to stand by it?
Graham,
I claim no great reserve of intellectual mettle. But I’ll tell you what I meant in the context of Laura Ingraham’s dreadful show.
Remember the old cartoon on MTV, Beavis and Butthead? That show was a sniggering mess. It was one silly, sophomoric cheap shot after another. Somebody says or does something dumb, and there’s Beavis and Butthead, sniggering, snickering — whatever you want to call it. That’s what Laura’s show became. It was one dumb diatribe after another, viewed through a tissue of half-truths and conveniently ignored facts.
Long before Laura criticized John McCain’s daughter for not being skinny, I had turned her off in my house. That day came months ago, when she launched into a strident and bizarre defense of the infamous Joe McCarthy. She said on the radio that McCarthy was right in his pursuit of communists.
McCarthy, more than anything else, indicted people for their thoughts and their associations. He ruined the lives of people for fun, sport and political gain. When that was becoming evident, he doubled down and went after them harder. He was the worst demagogue to ever hold high office in the United States(IMHO). And it was one of the darkest chapters in this country’s history.
And anybody who praised him on the radio — well, there could be no intelligence behind that, I thought. It was dumb. It was useless. It ignored history, and it ignored precious freedoms that our forefathers fought for. Whoever would do that is nothing more than a hack.
So, Graham, that’s what I meant. And yeah, I’m glad WFIR took her off the air in Roanoke. (BTW, her Web site claims she’s still carried by the radio station).
Dan,
Fair enough. I missed the support of McCarthy, but would also find that extremely distasteful.
I appreciate you posting your thoughts in a more direct and clear manner. I can respect any well thought out opinion, regardless of my own position.
