A recent story here in the Roanoke Times bore the headline:

"Franklin County Deputy Jonathan Agee had checkered record"

Imagine that! A deputy with a checkered past. I think its high time for a blog to be set up in which people can reveal ALL the blemishes in the pasts of members of the FCSO. It's time for house cleaning. Corruption, coverups and the good ol' boy system have only served to weaken credibility and weaken service. Just LOOK at how some of the people behaved during this latest episode. You can't trust the fox to guard the hen house, and you cant trust an incompetent sheriff to vet the backgrounds of his subordinates. WE THE PEOPLE need to know the backgrounds of those who have the guns and badges, lest any of them use the very tools entrusted to them to MURDER INNOCENT CITIZENS or commit or cover up crimes. I strongly suggest you take the time to read all the 911 logs and stories. Otherwise, we will all be stuck with he very same stuff for the next 4 years.

Native,
Actually, your argument is still clear as mud to me. You argue that Sheriff Hunt never cancelled a dispatch BOL. Your argument is based upon your hope that the CAD sheet is not accurate.

You’re hope is misplaced, Native—and it has caused you to lie in your defense of the Sheriff. Follow me now:

On 6/10/11 I said (citing the CAD sheet entry):

“That is Sheriff Hunt directing a subordinate not to call in a BOL.”

On 6/10/11 Native responds to defend Sheriff Hunt:

“He did do everything with what infor he was given and never did he anywhere cancel the BOL that the supervisor had already told her to put out before talking to HUNT.”

AND

“the dispatcher did not follow orders and then lied to cover her butt, not the Sheriff.”

AND (when I asked you to explain the specific CAD entry)

“this has done been answered a million times, the CAD sheet is not time accuarte not correct.”

Things have changed since Friday, Native. When you said these things you had the luxury of relying upon the Sheriff’s denial in his press release. Now, however, we have the actual transcript—which Sheriff Hunt has had prepared—which contains what he actually said and did—and which he has released as the complete and accurate record of what happened.

First, look at Sgt Wimmer’s attempts to have the BOL called out….

“FCSO Dispatch: So get Roanoke County to try to stop him?
SGT WIMMER: Yeah. If he’s on, if he’s on his police car and he says he’s going to Salem to kill somebody and your information through her is correct we need to notify Roanoke County an uh, and have them try to get him stopped there somewhere - - -
FCSO DISPATCH: Okay, I’ve got - - -
SGT WIMMER: Based on, you know, the information we have.
FCSO DISPATCH: Okay, I’ve got the Sheriff on hold so I’ll let him know.
SGT WIMMER: Okay, great.
FCSO DISPATCH: All right. Thanks.”

Before we start the very next line I want to say this is where I believe the dispatcher made a serious mistake. He should have ignored the Sheriff and left him on hold while he called in the BOL. But in fairness to him, he had no way of knowing his Sheriff was about to order him not to call it in….

FCSO DISPATCH: Hey, it’s Brandon.
SHERIFF: Yes Sir.
FCSO DISPATCH: Hey, a Julia Angel I believe is her name, or Julia Angell just called and said Jonathan Agee just got in his patrol car with an assault rifle and said that he was going to Salem to kill his ex-wife. While I was on the phone with - - -
SHERIFF: Yeah, I’ve already told, told the, the family. I mean did you talk to Salem first?
FCSO DISPATCH: No. I just got it and so I wanted to tell you before I called them. He just left 125 Summer Circle and I just talked to Lewis and he said to tell Roanoke County and tell Salem to stop him if, to try to pull him over if they can find him.
SHERIFF: Alright. Uh, where is he going to in Salem?
FCSO DISPATCH: He’s supposed to be going to South Broad Street. I don’t know a numeric I just know South Broad Street.
SHERIFF: Okay. All right. Let me - - - have you got a, have a number for Salem?
FCSO DISPATCH: Uh, and you want me to go ahead and call Roanoke County and - - -
SHERIFF: No, no, let me call them. Let me call them there.
FCSO DISPATCH: Okay. It’s 540 37 - - -
SHERIFF: Uh-huh.
FCSO DISPATCH: 5 – XXXX. That’s Salem.
SHERIFF: Salem PD there?
FCSO DISPATCH: Yeah.
SHERIFF: All right. And he’s going to where, what Broad Street?
FCSO DISPATCH: He’s going to Broad Street. I don’t know - - or South Broad Street. I don’t know a numeric but going to South Broad Street.
SHERIFF: Okay. All right. Now we don’t even know her name then do we?
FCSO DISPATCH: I don’t know her name, no, sir.
SHERIFF: Okay. All right. Thanks. Bye.

So there it is, Native. No more inaccuracies, just the sordid truth—Sheriff Hunt cancels the BOL and afterwards tries to throw his employee under the bus to protect himself.

Sheriff Hunt on 6/2/11:

“At no time did I cancel a ‘be on the lookout’ order for Mr. Agee.”

Sheriff Hunt on the day it happened:

FCSO DISPATCH: Uh, and you want me to go ahead and call Roanoke County and - - -
SHERIFF: No, no, let me call them. Let me call them there.

Now who has really lied to cover his butt, Native?

I just did a quick read of the 84 pages of dispatch transcripts released by the FSCO tonight.

http://media.trb.com/media/acrobat/2011-06/393701920-10172243.pdf

Aside from the chaos that must have dominated that morning, what stood out next what the blatant lack of professionalism on the part of some of the players. A dispatcher informs various law enforcement personnel what has happened, and the best some of them can come up with is LORD HAVE MERCY, OH GOD, ARE YOU SERIOUS, ARE YOU KIDDING ME, THIS IS JUST SOMETHING I TELL YA, OH MY GOD, and even one FU__IN-A. Law enforcement personnel calling in on 911 and expecting the dispatcher to read minds...never even identifying themselves! Incredible. The off duty busybodies calling in just to see "what's going on?" God forbid they should be kept out of the loop! I wonder if it all were to happen again would they behave the same way or will any lessons be learned? Every call is recorded and can potentially be released to the public; the people the FCSO is sworn to protect and serve. It would therefore make sense to THINK before you speak. And don't speak at all unless you really need to during a crisis.

Folks - It's worthless (like Sheriff Hunt) to keep asking Native questions. He's just like Hunt.....ignorant! Hopefully, he IS a lawyer with a LOT of money (I kinda doubt it though..)that he can give to Hunt when the family sues him for millions in a civil suit. Also, hopefully he will be the one to represent Hunt....that way it will be a speedy and "no-brainer" outcome!
