Congrats, Lori! Email me your selection and snail-mail address and I’ll get it in the mail to you.

Congratulations, Lori!
Congratulations Lori!
@#1 Funny!
Enjoy the book Lori! The fact that you say you haven’t been posting much lately is probably an indication that you will keep your sanity longer than many of us here!
Oh, wow. Lori won. Remarkable considering how infrequently she mosts.

It’s the luck of the draw, Suzie. Please tell me you don’t see it as a conspiracy.

But Debbie don’t you know that it’s a vast right wing conspiracy.
I followed the link back to the 80,000th comment post, and I now have a burning desire to try peach butter. I’ve never tried it, but it sounds heavenly.
VT Hokie, Just chop up some peaches, put them in a pot with a little water, a little lemon juice and sugar to taste. Bring to a boil, turn down the heat and stir, stir and stir until they melt into the consistency of apple butter.
Ron @ 5:08, Isn’t everything?
Seems that way Debbie.
Debbie & Ron:
Debbie re: peach butter: did you add any spices (cinnamon, nutmeg)? I bet brown sugar would be REALLY good in the recipe!
#* And what would you care, suzie. You’re too paranoid to even take a book. Sad.
My goodness, you people are reading a lot into a simple statement. Who are the paranoid folks?
Lori, re: the peach buuter, I didn’t add any spices, but you certainly can. Cinnamon and/or nutmeg would certainly add a great aroma while cooking. I used white sugar, but brown would be great, or maybe half and half. One friend that I gave a few jars to, liked that I added anough lemon jucie to give it a little tang. I used fresh lemon juice and while the pb was still sweet, it wasn’t overly so.
Rum extract might be good in it. Or, just rum.
Kristen, that reminds me of something I’ve seen on tshirts “I like to cook with wine. Sometimes I put it in the food.”
Lori, my sister gave me a trivet last weekend that says “I love the wine regions in my home” and underneath it’s a map that has “Bedroom, kitchen, living room, porch”
Kristen and Lori, my sister’s grandmother subscribed to a variation of that philosophy. She put at least as much alcohol in the food as she drank. Her rum balls and brandy balls would put you on the floor.
But they were sooooooo good!
Thanks Debbie, I think I’m going to try it. I’ve never even made apple butter though, so we’ll see what happens.
VT Hokie, I’ve never made apple butter either.
Just stir the peaches a lot, so they don’t scorch. Good luck!
Where do you get your peaches Debbie? I’m sure fresh ones are better.
#26 I don’t think you’ll find any fresh local ones yet although you might find some from south of here at the farmer’s market. If you do find local ones, it’s still a little early for the REALLY good ones.
VT Hokie, at the downtown city market. I live downtown, so it’s my open air grocery store.
I usually go to the farmer’s market in Salem. I have been to the downtown market, but I’ve never been to the Grandin market, I didn’t realize it was there. I’ll have to check it out one weekend. Not this weekend though, my family and I will be headed up to a rural cabin in Front Royal for the week. I can hardly wait.
VT Hokie – be sure to eat at spelunkers – killer hamburgers and they make their own waffle ice cream cones…. http://www.spelunkerscustard.com/
and another good place is Main Street Mill Restaurant
500 East Main Street, Front Royal, VA 22630-3060
(540) 636-3123.. cool old building converted to family restaurant.
While you are on Main Street – check out Stokes – Main Street Mill Restaurant

They have incredible boots, work clothes and some unique items. They used to carry (Hope they still do – we are going up next month) a pair of ladies work gloves that are the best I’ve ever had $5.00 a pair…
enjoy your trip!!!
Thanks charlie! I’ll definitely check those out. I know my daughter will enjoy the waffle ice cream cones, and that’s a great idea since we’re celebrating her birthday this coming weekend.
I feel like I may have been to the Main Street Mill restaurant…my husband and I did the cabin thing alone for our anniversary last July and one day we ate at a restaurant that sounds like what you are describing, though I can’t remember the name. It was really good.
Hope your daughter has a great birthday and enjoy your vacation!
I love old towne Front Royal – the visitor center had the cutest t shirts colored with Virginia mud, the hues were lovely. There used to be a quilt shop that I had to practice self control, fabric is an addiction with me. Then there is a really great outdoor store that sells all kinds of camping, hiking items – Weasel Creek outfitters – all within walking distance of each other…
Lori donated her prize to DaveH, who in turn has donated it to the Patrients Library at the Va Medical Center in Salem.
“The Mistress of Abha” by William Newton was put in the mail to them Tuesday afternoon.
