Closing in on 95,000 comments

In the next week or maybe two, we’ll hit the milestone for 95,000 “approved” comments on this blog, since its inception in March 2009.

And the lucky poster of the 95,000th comment will get his or her choice of a book from Dan’s Bookshelf. In case you haven’t checked that out lately, there are some new offerings on there.

In terms of both comments and page views, this is by far the most trafficked of all the roanoke.com blogs. That’s because of your faithful readership.

Again, thank you all for your participation, your passion, your humor. And thanks to some of you for your command of the facts, and to certain other regulars who provide the rest of us daily reminders of what it’s like to live in an one of those comic book-style alternate universes.

May the best Gonzo blogger take the prize!

Tex here unfortunately strikes me as the all too typical CC clown; a dime’s worth of common sense strutting around in a ten gallon hat. Thankfully, not all gun owners are this incredibly stupid but it certainly makes a compelling case that if many avid gun owners had to pass an IQ test, there would be a whole lot less tomfoolery and grab-assing like this going down…

In any event, the score as I see it; cardboard sign criminal, 1, Tex, 0. This clip was edited due to Tex’s potty mouth but you can goggle Derek Grebner to listen to his kvetching in its unedited splendor on your own. In all fairness I’d be crying up a storm as well if I was dumb enough to shoot myself in the leg, too.

    Dan,

Some time ago I read a book by Margaret J. Wheatley called “Finding Our Way: Leadership For an Uncertain Time.” Given the times we are currently experiencing someone might enjoy reading it. Whichever blogger posts the 95,000th comment on your blog might want to read it. I’d be glad to send it to them if they wish. I only ask that when they finish it they pass it on to someone else.

    Let me know.

    Dan,

Speaking of books, I just released my tenth “Kindle” selection, a thesis video explaining the role of online technology in healthcare and employment, entitled “America’s Patient Advocate”…costs only $.99 to download. Check it out at Amazon.com, http://theroanoketribune.com/contact_6.html

Dan thinks controlling spending on the heels of the biggest spending spree in American history is from an alternate universe. I am proud to be part of a huge majority in this country, and equally proud to be part of only a small mionrity in this blog. Now tell us which one is the alternate universe.

@ Dan Casey – I’ll stop by and drop off that book I promised. Would’ve been by sooner, but I haven’t been working downtown lately.

Wow, soon to hit 95,000 on a blog where we routinely talk about trillions as if we understood how much that was, it seems small and yet it is impressive for a regional newspaper columnist’s blog. Good work Dan! YOU are what makes this a success. Your interaction and attentiveness (which has to impact your family and work life) are the reason this blog is the runaway winner. I don’t really warn my friends away, I just let them know that civilized is an “eye of the beholder” issue. It does not take much time to learn the pariahs.

As a long time blogger, I appreciate the efforts to make this a more decent place to come and I applaud the fellow Gonzos who have worked to make it better. I feel I have made some friends and found people I respect, whose views and opinions I value and listen to. I also feel that my fears and disgust at what many people feel, say and project have been confirmed and I don’t feel vindicated, I just feel sad.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you’ve got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.

Wouldn’t you like to get away?

    Sometimes you want to go

    Where everybody knows your name,
and they’re always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
    Your name.

You wanna go where people know,
    people are all the same,
You wanna go where everybody knows
    your name.

When Dan’s blog hits 100,000, we need to get together and have a toast or two to the head Gonzo.

About this blog

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!

He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
