Front man of the band sets Dan straight on the year
Thanks for the mention of the Original Fetish in your recent article.
I am always looking for mentions on the internet but it is not always easy. The word “original” is too generic and “fetish” brings up more than music. If I add “Elvis” I sometimes have better luck.
I know we are all getting older but I need to refresh your memory on one fact: the Fetish was together from August 16th, 1978 through August 17th, 1980. The dates being meaningful for the Elvis death connection. So, we were not together during the fall of 1980.
It appears that not only did you forget the name of your dance partner but you forgot the whole year 1979. That would be my estimate as to the date of the Maryland mixer.
My daughter is now a junior at UM and I hope she is not attending mixers featuring depraved bands like my own.
Thanks again for remembering the Original Fetish.
Note from Dan: The writer is the former front man of the Original Fetish, and he’s correct. The mixer at the University of Maryland must have taken place in the fall of 1979; my memory was tangled. Oxie and I exchanged a few emails on Sunday; he kindly offered to mail me a CD from a 2005 reunion concert by the band at Chick Hall’s Surf Club, a legendary roadhouse in Prince George’s County, Md. I can’t wait!
You can hear their catchy original “I’m Glad That Elvis is Dead” here.
