Are the feds zeroing in on ‘Bobby Thompson’?

'Bobby Thompson' with House Speaker John Boehner

TV station report says the U.S. Navy Vets con man was hiding in New Mexico

From a report by KRQE in Albuquerque:

U.S. Marshals said he has lived in Albuquerque and knows the area. Recently new information pointed to him hiding out here.

“He is known for his ability to blend in or change his appearance or something. So he may not really be low profile he may just be using an alias.”

[Deputy Ben]Segotta said they want him in handcuffs badly, “He solicited hundred of millions of dollars from people in order to help veterans and betrayed that trust between people and our military.”

Thompson is a fake name and officials don’t really know who this guy is. For a while he had actually assumed the identity of a New Mexico man who ran a local veterans group.

He’s 5 feet 8 inches about 160 pounds and said to be a heavy and often violent drinker.

From the Associated Press:

Authorities say he has used several aliases, including Ronnie Brittain and Elmer Dosier. He also has shown an ability to alter his appearance by changing his hair and wearing glasses.

It’s not hard to imagine how the capture of U.S. Navy Veterans Association founder “Bobby Thompson” could be a nightmare for the GOP in an election year. Especially with all the pictures of the con man and other high-profile Republicans that are floating out there.

How dare they associate with a man they thought was doing some good for Veterans…

At least they don’t blatantly associate themselves with Marxists, and the Communist/Socialists of Chicago

I’m not sure I would have written it that way..

” He’s 5 feet 8 inches about 160 pounds and said to be a heavy and often violent drinker. ”

Heavy?? 160 pounds isnt that bad..and whats a violent drinker..
does he swear at and punch his punch before tossing it back to wash the hot wings?

  3. Sandi Saunders | January 31, 2012 at 12:30 pm

Don’t you think it is just a tad ridiculous to prefer criminals who rip people off in the name of helping veterans to someone with a different political ideology, Pistol Pete?

joe, he’s a heavy drinker and a violent drinker. “a heavy and violent driker” A violent drinker is one who drinks and gets violent.

I hope they find him soon and he is tried in a court of law.

    #$1 Yeah, thank goodness, PP.

I thought “heavy” referred to the drinking too.

“He is known for his ability to blend in or change his appearance or something.”

I don’t know how he’d do that. He’s pretty distinctive.

I think Joe might be kidding around?

  9. Miriam | January 31, 2012 at 1:20 pm

@7 I totally agree Kristen. That dude looks like a rodent of some kind and I just don’t know how you would alter those truly odd features. And I totally assumed Joe was joking around and had read that as it was intended but it just struck his funny bone. If I’m wrong…uh, okay…alright.

The heavy indeed referred to his drinking. Besides dime store furniture, the dump he rented in Tampa was furnished mostly with cases of tequila and Natural Light beer. During an audit of the Connecticut chapter of the U.S. Navy Veteran Association’s federal tax returns, “Thompson” actually offered as substantiating “expenses” a receipt for a large load of Natural Light that had been purchased in Florida. And the IRS accepted it.

Miriam, someone months ago on the blog made the comment that he looked as though he’d “swallowed his eyeballs”. Whenever I look at his poochy little cheeks, that line comes to mind and it’s sort of off-putting to say the least. :)

IDK, I watched “The Jackal” over the weekend and Bruce Willis pulled off several different “looks” that would fool a lot of people in a casual setting. This is another of the things that makes me wonder what the actual crime to crimes solved ratio is.

Hiding those cheeks would take some work, I would think.

    Overview
In 2010, 47.2 percent of violent crimes and 18.3 percent of property crimes in the Nation were cleared by arrest or exceptional means.

Among violent crimes, 64.8 percent of murder offenses were cleared, 40.3 percent of forcible rape offenses were cleared, 28.2 percent of robbery offenses were cleared, and 56.4 percent of aggravated assault offenses were cleared.

Clearance data for property crimes revealed that 21.1 percent of larceny-theft offenses were cleared, 12.4 percent of burglary offenses were cleared, and 11.8 percent of motor vehicle theft offenses were cleared.

Nineteen percent of arson offenses were cleared by arrest or exceptional means in 2010. 34.3 percent of arson offenses cleared involved juveniles (persons under age 18); this was the highest percentage of all offense clearances involving only juveniles.

I am all for trashing Bobby Thompson, but let’s leave Natural Light beer out of this. It has no dog in this fight. Also, let’s give it some credit:

    Just saying.

The VA Senate is expected to vote on and pass the ultrasound bill. I called Linda Byron’s office and Bill Stanley’s office [representatives of Franklin Co] this am and asked how these unnecessary medical tests will be paid for. Since the VA AG doesn’t believe that Virginians should be forced to buy medical insurance, but evidently has no compunction in forcing women to undergo an ultrasound, who gets to be forced to pay for this uncalled for and forced test? In addition, who pays for the extra doctor’s visit mandated so the woman could the results?

Called at 9am – no one knew the answer – it isn’t in the bill as presented. Still have yet to hear from my stellar reps. If the woman has no insurance, what happens? If she does, and her obgyn doesn’t order it, will her insurance be forced to pay? So in VA you can’t be forced to buy insurance, but you can have a medical test forced upon you.

Oh, that’s right, the Republicans are in charge…it doesn’t have to make sense.

“Since the VA AG doesn’t believe that Virginians should be forced to buy medical insurance, but evidently has no compunction in forcing women to undergo an ultrasound, who gets to be forced to pay for this uncalled for and forced test?”

Well, it’s only women we’re talking about. Who cares if “big gubment” gets all up in their grill? It’s not that important.

I sent my messages to my Reps too Hillary and I agree with you completely. This is hubris and government intervention writ large from a party who hypocritically pretends to not be about that. Disgusting. They cannot even try to save lives in an honest and supportive manner.

#14 Sorry thought I was on the open thread…my bad.

    I was kidding around..
I was also taking a poke at NM tv news.
Violent is a word to describe behavior.
They should have just put it the SWVA
and Tx way…He-s a damned mean drunk.

I lived in NM for a good while testing the effects
of radiation on a 18 year old kid.

    For what its worth,,,
    I feel somewhat vindicated that
the Fort Worth news seemed to agree
with me in the clumsily worded description
    and did a little editing.
