The wide OPEN yonder on the Saturday thread
“This whole earth which we inhabit is but a point in space. How far apart, think you, dwell the two most distant inhabitants of yonder star, the breadth of whose disk cannot be appreciated by our instruments? Why should I feel lonely? Is not our planet in the Milky Way? This which you put seems to me not to be the most important question. What sort of space is that which separates a man from his fellows and makes him solitary? I have found that no exertion of the legs can bring two minds much nearer to one another.”
Henry David Thoreau

(REPUBLICAN) REP. BACHUS FACES INSIDER TRADING PROBE: REPORT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, republican Spencer Bachus, who oversees the U.S. banking and financial services industries, is under investigation for possible violation of insider trading laws, The Washington Post reported on Thursday.
The Office of Congressional Ethics began investigating Bachus, an Alabama Republican, late last year after focusing on a number of suspicious trades on his annual financial disclosure form, the Post reported, citing sources familiar with the case.

“America is undergoing a spiritual revival. The young people are tossing the putrid values of the 60′s and 70′s in the trash heap where they belong. I’ve been to Virginia Tech recently. The students are far more serious-minded than when I was a student 30 years ago. I realize no libs in here know much about Tech students, but it’s those kinds of young people who embrace their faith that are going to lead the way in ridding us of the barbaric practice of destroying children in the womb.
I’m very optimistic.

As always wrong…here’s the actual facts on that subject:
WHY YOUNG EVANGELICALS ARE LEAVING THE CHURCH
Highlights from the article -
• There is a 43% drop in Christian church attendance between the teen and early adult years
• They don’t appreciate being condemned for living with a partner, straight or gay, outside of marriage or opting for abortion to terminate an unplanned pregnancy.
• Jobs and higher wages are their priority just as they are for everyone else; the nominee who convinces the millennials (ages 13 to 29): that they’ll be better off financially will get their vote. But if neither party is persuasive, the former evangelicals may vote Democratic because of that party’s more moderate stance on social issues. Or they could simply sit out the election.
• Young Christians are as sexually active as non-Christians.
• 49% of Republican millennials support same-sex marriages
• According to a report in The Christian Science Monitor, three out of four say that wealthy corporations and financiers have too much power and that taxes should be raised on the very wealthy
• According to a report in The Christian Science Monitor most say that creationists’ view on evolution is outdated.

The tragedy of Whitney Houston was her misspent life. She had such a great opportunity to influence young ghetto girls, and then she threw it away with her poor example, the booze, the pills, the coke, hanging onto an abusive cheating man. I hate to say it, but it’s the classic set of leftwing values.

Not sure what that has to do with Whitney.
I never got the Billy Joel thing. In his songs like ‘Uptown Girl”, and “Only the Good” he painted himself a a street tough chasing after the whitebread girl. But Billy with his 5’6″ stature and semi-wimpy demeanor doesn’t quite match up with that image. I guess that’s what “artists” do. Engage in fantasy as they would like things to be.

The Justice system found another live one. The story in the RT about the veteran who called for help in his lowest moment is awfully close to my comment a few days ago that attempted suicide should be a crime, punishable by death.
What will happen remains to be seen but will surely include court costs and fines. Perhaps Suzie will offer to pay this criminal’s bills. I guess it depends on whether or not he is forgiven by her for suicidal thoughts.
Some people are concerned about the USA becoming like those other people in places like Hungary. We are nipping at their heels, or is it the other way around. A very cold Winter in Europe has people dying on the streets from exposure. It’s a crime to be homeless and you can be fined for it.

The tragedy of Rush Limbaugh was his misspent life. He had such a great opportunity to influence young whitebread-type folk, and then he threw it away with his poor example, the pain pills until he nearly went deaf and almost lost his gig, the addiction to tobacco, the smuggling, going through wives like you-know-what through a goose, pandering to the Republican party and willing to tell daily lies for a larger paycheck. I hate to say it, but it’s the classic set of rightwing values.

#27 Actually, Dan, just as with almost everything else she/he writes about, suzie’s broken record on the wasted lives of people with addictions is pitiful and misinformed (or misinforming). I’m not certain whether suzie is claiming that addiction is strictly a liberal thing (hard to do with Rush staring you in the face) or instead that conservatives CAN be addicts but only people with conservative values recover. I’m not certain whether she actually believes or is just pretending to believe that addicts stay addicts because they’re having so much fun and getting so much pleasure from it, which of course is a liberal thing. Does she really believe or is she just pretending to believe the idiocy that all that’s needed to be “cured” is more willpower?
Musically, I was never a Whitney Houston fan, but she set some amazing sales records and won 6 Grammys. May she RIP.

When she first came on the blogs she was always moaning about her “charity work”, going to fix the heat for “Obama voters”, so I long ago guessed that the “engineer” she is married to is one who heads a Roanoke HVAC business. I still feel that is the correct “guess” and that her stories are just that. BTW, she has used that same “Sandra Dee” BS line before as well. I know Sandra Dee died trying to be a recovering alcoholic, but I never believed she had any connection to Suzie, Suzie is the one that said she had been told she looked like her, and even used her pic for a while.
