I find it very interesting that the same magazine runs contradictory articles on the same subject — the cost of “Obamacare.”
One article (probably written by a conservative) slams the program and uses the latest CBO predictions about its cost as evidence the program is “bad”.
That article states:
“The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) now claims that the president’s signature health care legislation will cost hundreds of billions of dollars more than originally predicted.”
The second article (most likely penned by a liberal) tells us that the Republicans are twisting the CBO numbers to make it LOOK as if the Affordable Care Act is costing more than predicted.
That article states:
“I suppose it should not come as a great surprise that the opponents of Obamacare would mobilize—given that the CBO report actually estimates a net decrease in the costs of health care reform totaling $51 billion when compared to last year’s estimates.”
It’s no wonder we are all confused. If one does not take the time to read and understand every piece of legislation and every report, we are forced to depend on the translation of others… and whatever spin they want to put on it. I agree with Rick Ungar that we should read the report ourselves.
The link to both articles is here:
The CBO report can be found here:
Lynda K, welcome back!
Open this card and see if it reminds you of someone(s) on this blog.
“What if Obamacare Really was Like Auto Insurance?”
Penn Jillette is awesome…probably my favorite atheist.
Here are his thoughts on the GOVT. and “compassion”…
“It’s amazing to me how many people think that voting to have the government give poor people money is compassion. Helping poor and suffering people is compassion. Voting for our government to use guns to give money to help poor and suffering people is immoral self-righteous bullying laziness.
People need to be fed, medicated, educated, clothed, and sheltered, and if we’re compassionate we’ll help them, but you get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right. There is great joy in helping people, but no joy in doing it at gunpoint.
People try to argue that government isn’t really force. You believe that? Try not paying your taxes. When they come to get you for not paying your taxes, try not going to court. Guns will be drawn. Government is force — literally, not figuratively.”
My favorite line.
“You get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right.”
This is tragic:
Great video LC…Nobody on here will watch though.
Ron, that was spot-on! The woman on the card could pass for Amanda Pflugrad (if you use a little imagination).
Hey, found a good quote for you Lake..
“The Bible calls debt a curse, and children a blessing; but in our culture, we apply for a curse, and reject the blessings.”
Yes Lake Claytor, you would do well to remember that line! “You get no moral credit for forcing other people to do what you think is right.” Hypocrite.
If charity was handling the problem, could handle the problem and wants to handle the problem, why would the government get involved in the first place?
Does the government MAKE money on charity or lose money on charity? What government leader in their right mind wants to spend money on things so many simple minded people complain about? How popular would Obama or any leader be if they stopped spending money on the safety nets? The people in poverty, getting aid and being assisted are FAR outnumbered, so why would any sane leader keep helping them?
How many of your own heroes tried to stop it Lake Claytor? Why not? The simple minds always come up with that same lame excuse for not wanting to pay their share of taxes but the fact remains that the need is so great that even the government AND private charity have not been enough.
People who do not want to pay taxes owed and contribute to the betterment of society do not deserve to live in that society any more than you think the people getting assistance do IMO.
Oh right on Pistol Pete, “Douglas W. Phillips is a Calvinist Christian speaker and author. He is the son of U.S. Constitution Party leader Howard Phillips and president of Vision Forum Ministries. He advocates Biblical patriarchy, creationism, homeschooling, Quiverfull and Family Integrated Church. Doug and his wife Beall have eight children. He has been called “one of the most influential proponents of the conservative Christian patriarchy movement now flourishing among homeschoolers.” Phillips is also the pastor of Boerne Christian Assembly in San Antonio.” By all means, let’s follow him.
That is good. Our depraved culture welcomes deception, it needs darkness to survive.
Speaking of deception, how about your misleading claim that federal costs for Affordable Care Care act had doubled. That was about as misleading as it gets.
@12 “By all means lets follow him”
Nah Sandi, not him but Christ.
So what part of the quote do you NOT agree with?
The Quiverful people are one serious freakshow. They don’t really “homeschool”….they have a zillion kids and keep the older ones home raising the littles and doing the housework. Amazing what’s legal in this country.
IDK sinner, got a mortgage?
I will have to admit that I am impressed by men who avow that they only have sex for procreation. Must make for a great marriage.
So Rick Santorum says that if Puerto Rico wants to become a state, they need to have English as the primary language:
I think Mr. Santorum is right, and I think we need to start changing all the non-English names of this country’s states, cities, counties, rivers, and the like to proper English names!
Roanoke- derived from a Native American word, change it back to Big Lick, and will have to rename the county and the river.
Shenandoah- another Native American word. Need to change the names of the river, town, and the valley.
Botetourt- I dunno…sounds sorta French to me…change it!
Baton Rouge (Louisiana)- now I know that’s French! Change it!
Minnesota- another Native American word.
Des Moines, Iowa- Des Moines…French! Iowa…name derived from the Ioway people, who were Native American, thus not English. Change both of them!
San Francisco, Los Angeles, Arizona, Florida…all Spanish! Habla Ingles, por favor (speak English, please).
I know I’m not supposed to mess with it, but Texas…that’s another Native American word. Change it!
United States of *America*…America…that’s some word that some *German* guy used to name this continent after an *Italian* explorer. Need to change it! How about United States of English Speakers?
Wow…that’s a lot, and I know there’s more. We need to get busy, busy, busy!
[I’m being facetious, of course. Facetious…omg, that’s derived from French and Latin! Nooo!!!]
Oh Dan come on, deception when you are trying to force other people to do what you think is right is OK, it is the “other kind” of deception that is wrong. You know, the kind that acts like a percentage of the population’s choices defines the whole culture.
Me Fellow Bloggers,
Tomorrow is likely to be a very busy day for me don’t you know. Between green yardwork and other celebrations, ’tis I who will likely not be on Dan O’Casey’s blog. Please accept, as a humble wish to you all on St. Patrick’s Day the card linked below. ‘Tis me heartfelt wish for ye all.
@5 LC, I agree with you about Penn J. Here is a quote from his essay on This I believe:
“Believing there’s no God stops me from being solipsistic. I can read ideas from all different people from all different cultures. Without God, we can agree on reality, and I can keep learning where I’m wrong. We can all keep adjusting, so we can really communicate. I don’t travel in circles where people say, “I have faith, I believe this in my heart and nothing you can say or do can shake my faith.” That’s just a long-winded religious way to say, “shut up,” or another two words that the FCC likes less. But all obscenity is less insulting than, “How I was brought up and my imaginary friend means more to me than anything you can ever say or do.” So, believing there is no God lets me be proven wrong and that’s always fun. It means I’m learning something.”
The rest of the essay is also wonderful and can be found here: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5015557
Ah, Ronnie, I will be with ye — and with the spellers at The Roanoke Times’ 39th Annual Regional Spelling Bee. So I won’t be much on the blog Saturday either.
Loved it Donut Miser!
and here is Dan and Ron, admitting to celebrating another cultural holiday in AMERICA that is NOT AMERICAN. Love it or leave it boys!
Sandi, do you ALWAYS agree with EVERYTHING said by your GOD… Obama? I’m sure you don’t, but I am sure he has a lot of good quotes you like.
Same here, like the Phillips quote-but he is not my GOD.
This video is for you and Ms. Anti-children – Kristen
So glad you guys are celebrating the life of a great Christian Missionary and Evangelist.
“He considered himself a pagan until the age of 16, when he was kidnapped by a group of Irish raiders who attacked his family’s estate. Maewyn was taken to Ireland, where he spent six years in captivity working as a shepherd during which time he became a Christian and took the name Patrick.
After escaping captivity, he studied in a monastery for 12 years. It was here that he realized his calling was to convert the pagans to Christianity. Patrick’s superiors honored his wishes to return to Ireland and appointed him as the second bishop of the country.
During his 30-year mission in Ireland, he established monasteries and set up schools and churches. Within 200 years of his arrival in Ireland, Patrick had “Christianized” the entire country.”
He died on March 17 461 AD, and that day has been commemorated as St. Patrick’s Day ever since.
Baton Rouge would change to Red Stick I believe.
Facetiously and Abstemiously are the only two words in the english language with all the vowels in alphabetic order.
Your daily dose of Trivia there.
I was thinking of you, Sandi, when I read that line.
Sorry Dan, Let’s look at it.
The original LIE was that it would cost $940 Billion dollars over 10 years. Double that would be $1.88 Trillion, correct?
Now, the CBO projects the costs at $1.76 Trillion.
Sooooo close to DOUBLING it. My bad, Dan. You got me.
Where’s your defense of Obama’s deceptions?
Why can’t we keep the plan we want?
I appreciate his thoughts, even though I believe him to be wrong on a lot of things. I love the guy.
Now we know what kind of business suzie’s in:
Racist Anti-Obama Sticker Makes Rounds On Facebook
“Sandi, do you ALWAYS agree with EVERYTHING said by your GOD… Obama? I’m sure you don’t, but I am sure he has a lot of good quotes you like.”
Sounds to be like PP is making a false idol on Sandi’s behalf.
What does the Bible say about that?
LC, take 5 minutes and summon all your powers of rationality and investigate that “ACA will cost double” canard the RWers are pushing. If you will look at it honestly and with reason, you’ll acknowledge it’s a lie.
The question is, will you?
Lake Claytor, your blasphemy is not funny. I have no earthly god. Nor did I question your admiration for a right wing zealot or for an atheist libertarian as “believing they were God”.
@31 Wow…what a sad statement about our society that bumper sticker is
Sorry Lake Claytor, I should have typed Pistol Pete in the above. But Lake, you can “think” of me or anything else you like, that line hits you as hard as you believe it hits me or anyone else.
What is it exactly that you get out of being so petty, small and insulting? Did you worship Reagan or either Bush as a god? Why then insult me that my support makes Obama a god to me? Can you not appreciate the truth unless it comes from your approved sources? What is really wrong with you is your patently obvious contempt for anyone who disagrees with you while claiming you live a Biblical life and try to follow Jesus. Hypocrites.
“Affordable” Care Act?
The name itself is a lie.
Dan, don’t ever use that name and expect serious response.
As for your request, I would prefer they say “NEARLY double” for now, in serious conversations. I imagine the cost is only going to go higher.
#26 Thank you for Mr. Scary Echo Voice Guy, PP. He’s inspired me to fire my wife and get a younger one so I can have more babies.
BTW, I wasn’t aware Kristen was against children. Last time I checked she had some.
Seriously, Dan, you expect LC to actually do some research and not latch onto the headline that agrees with his worldview?
From The New Republic: http://www.tnr.com/blog/jonathan-cohn/101741/cbo-obamacare-cost-deficit-lie-double-price-fox
“To figure out the cost of health care reform, CBO looks at each of the law’s component parts and, for accounting purposes, groups them into different categories. It calls one category “gross cost of coverage expansions”—that’s the amount of money the federal government will spend to help people get insurance, mostly by offering Medicaid to more people or giving people subsidies they can use to help offset the cost of private insurance. Last year, CBO estimated that the gross cost of coverage expansion from 2012 through 2021 would be $1.445 trillion. Now CBO thinks the gross cost will be $1.496 trillion. The number shifted, in part, because the CBO has changed its projections for economic growth. (MSNBC’s Tom Curry has a nice explanation of this.) But, in the context of such a large a budget projection, that’s barely any difference at all.
In the this latest estimate, CBO extends its projection out one more year, to capture the expenses from 2012 to 2022, in order to capture a full decade. In 2022, CBO says, the gross cost of coverage expansion will be $265 billion. Add that to the $1.496 and you get (with rounding) the $1.76 trillion—the one in the press releases and the Fox story.
But there is nothing new or surprising about this. It’s only slightly more money than the previous year’s outlays. The ten-year number seems to jump only because the time frame for the estimate has moved, dropping one year, 2011, and adding another, 2022. Obamacare has virtually no outlays in 2011, because the Medicaid expansion and subsidies don’t start up until 2014, which means the shifting time frame drops a year of no implementation and adds one of full implementation.”
Obama’s plans are REALLY bad.
Everything he has touched has turned to into a pile of….(except the UAW)
“President Obama’s budget would pile up an additional $3.5 trillion in debt over the next 10 years and shows the government’s trust funds running out of money in 2020, Congress’s official non-partisan scorekeeper said Friday.”
Regime CHANGE will bring real HOPE for America.
gdad….for yardwork purposes, sometimes I wish I’d had a few more. Or staggered them better.
The right-wing claim that all liberals see Obama as some sort of god or savior is one of the more pitiful canards put out there when they can’t really come up with anything else to say, like PP did here. Sure, there are folks who seem to almost worship him, but the same can be said about some of the fans of Bush (look at suzie) and PARTICULARLY of Reagan. Of course now Reagan is way too liberal for today’s wingnut crowd.
No…it deflects off me and hits you.
(is anybody really paying any attention to this nonsense?)
PP, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on Mar. 17. Today is the 16th. But, yes, tomorrow i’ll be in a bar drinking green beer wearing a button that says, ‘Kiss me. I’m Irish.’
gdad, The guy’s voice on the video is a pastor and he has adopted 3 children of his own for a total of 7. More ways to have children than just the old fashioned way.
Kristen is against what the video said… Someone with lots of children.. in other words children are not a blessing.
LC, obsession is not healthy. I know this is a political blog, but you take Obama obession to a whole new level.
#46 But, PP, adoption doesn’t do much to offset that scary, echoing Muslims having 6 kids threat, unless of course you adopt some Muslim kids and turn them into Christians.
The obsession is to disrupt and irritate this blog. Just as they demand respect for their values, beliefs and political positions they deny any of that to us. They cannot find a blog to hang out with people who might have a similar appetite for bile, lies and insults to Obama so they bring it here, for one reason and one reason only. Transparent as clear glass.
Yawn PP. I have some and like them. I have no opinion on whether they’re “blessings” or not. Those that are wanted, maybe. Sad to say there are far too many out there who are not.
The Quiverful thing is a different discussion. Farming children and indenturing them into servitude of diaper changing and housework doesn’t strike me as any particular “blessing”. Not to mention they can barely spell “cat” unless you spot them the C and the A. I read a few of this blogs and Im underwhelmed with the whole thing.
I think El Suzo’s misguided worship is of El Rushbo. She did call him “Christ-like.”
Lake, it’s simple, the libbies are stupid to understand it..
that bumper sticker is no worse than calling conservative woman sluts or the c word gdad, what a double standard belief system ya got going there babe…no worse at all..lol
Good point dobbs! I will have to go back to the thread where FlimFlam was likened to Jesus to see what Pistol Pete and Lake Claytor think of people other than a liberal making someone a god.
Well of course it is not offensive to you pammala. Duh.
“The obsession is to disrupt and irritate this blog. Just as they demand respect for their values, beliefs and political positions they deny any of that to us. They cannot find a blog to hang out with people who might have a similar appetite for bile, lies and insults to Obama so they bring it here, for one reason and one reason only. Transparent as clear glass.”
And they can declare the sky green, too, every day of the week. Right here on Dan Casey’s blog! (But that’s all on them, and they oughta know it.)
Got a hankering to create any more false idols?
Just wondering. . .
0bama’s a false idol all right.
You are right for once pammala, we would be “stupid to understand it”. Anyone would.
Dan, he is probably busy ordering that John Wayne flag they desecrated.
Maybe this will help clear up your confusion:
Jonathan Cohn offers a great explanation of what the CBO numbers really mean -
To figure out the cost of health care reform, CBO looks at each of the law’s component parts and, for accounting purposes, groups them into different categories. It calls one category “gross cost of coverage expansions” – that’s the amount of money the federal government will spend to help people get insurance, mostly by offering Medicaid to more people or giving people subsidies they can use to help offset the cost of private insurance. In this latest estimate, CBO extends its projection out one more year, to capture the expenses from 2012 to 2022, in order to capture a full decade. In 2022, CBO says, the gross cost of coverage expansion will be $265 billion. Add that to the $1.496 and you get (with rounding) the $1.76 trillion – the one in the press releases and the Fox story.
But there is nothing new or surprising about this. It’s only slightly more money than the previous year’s outlays. Obamacare has virtually no outlays in 2011, because the Medicaid expansion and subsidies don’t start up until 2014, which means the shifting time frame drops a year of no implementation and adds one of full implementation.
Does Lynda K’s explanation help you understand how the RWer talking point that the cost of “Obamacare” is “doubling” amounts to bearing false witness?
“Lake Claytor: Maybe this will help clear up your confusion:”
When pigs fly. This blog is a wingnut relay-race.
Dan, I’m doing to direct this to you since it is your blog. Do you still want this blog to be a place where participants keep you honest and where you welcome everyone’s “rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil”. Or is it as Sandi suggests and conservative voices here will only be considered as trolls who “cannot find a blog to hang out with people who might have a similar appetite for bile, lies and insults to Obama.”
Yours seems to be a pretty liberal voice, reasonable, but liberal. It would seem to stand to reason that in order to “keep him honest” there would have to be at least a few opposing viewpoints. However, more and more it seems that there are more than a few regular posters here who seem intent on driving anyone who doesn’t share their views off these pages. So I’m asking you. Which way do you want it?
Suzie doesn’t speak for this blog when she tries to declare no more comments will be accepted on the threads. And Sandi Saunders doesn’t speak for this blog either.
Each of them is speaking for themselves, which I’m happy to have them — and you — do here.
Does that answer your question?
“I’m doing to direct this to you since it is your blog. ”
Heheheh….He just does what he is told, Chuck.
Interesting Dan would try to lump me with Sandi. I guess he doesn’t want to look like he’s taking a position against that liberal loudmouth.
In actuality, I have never called for voices to be shut out or banned or whatever. I’ve never known any conservative to do that. Only liberals like Sand, Dave, Art, and others. So it’s ridiculous to include me in an answer when I had nothing to do with the question asked.
“In actuality, I have never called for voices to be shut out or banned or whatever.”
In actuality, you have declared threads closed to further comment. The declaration was as ridiculous as most of your other posts.
Wow Chuck. If you think it’s necessary to ensure a rwnutball is calling our president “HNIC” and that women who have sex are called “whores” and “sluts”, rest assured that this blog will continue to provide those services.
There really is no “other side”, at least as far as this blog is concerned.
Hey everybody, pop quiz:
Q: Can anyone name a public company that’s doing worse than Carbonite?
A: Clear Channel, which owns Premiere Networks, which pays Rush Limbaugh $38 million a year for his advertising-free show.
“So lets recap, Clear Channel is losing a large slice of advertising revenue for a broadcaster they are paying $38 million a year. The company has a market cap of $5.5 billion, and $19 billion in debt. Despite a junk bond rating, the company is planning to borrow another $2.2 billion to pay a $2 billion dividend to Bain Capital. That will leave the company with a market cap of $3.3 billion, and $21.2 billion in debt with $4 billion due in 2014 and another $12 billion up to 2016.”
Make sure you read the whole article, which is titled: Will Limbaugh, with the help of Romney’s Bain Capital, bring down Clear Channel? And then, after the phony dividend is paid, make sure you short Clear Channel stock!
There’s always room for more at Dan’s table. Some bring food for thought, some bring poison apples.
Kristen, the problem is, many of us don’t think the extremes on either side are beneficial. However, some of you can’t differentiate between real bigotry and hatred like the anti-Obama bumper sticker and someone who merely has different beliefs, be they political, religious, social, or economic philosophy. Instead you lunp them all together and respond with condescension and insults, categorizing anyone who disagrees with Obama’s politics a racist, ironically never seeing that you are engaging in the very behavior you claim to be against. But enough of that . . .
The real test for Obamacare at this point is not necessarily the raw cost, but the net effect it has on deficits. If it truly does reduce deficits, it may be a worthwhile venture despite the overall costs and some of the personal freedoms it removes. I haven’t always felt that way, but I believe at this point reducing our overall deficit is more important than most any other factor.
I’m not sure exactly what the government is doing with many things or why so many are blind to it, but the recovery, such that it is, is very precarious and is nowhere near as robust as is being portrayed. I don’t know if the deception is purely for political reasons or if it is intended to avoid panic and financial collapse, but the assertion that there is no inflation problem is a flat-out lie. The price of everything is rising, often times without any reasonable market explanation. The value of the currency is falling and there is a serious discussion by other nations with the IMF to move away from the dollar as the world reserve currency. We are quite literally at the tipping point. We have spent ourselves into such debt that world no longer has confidence is the US dollar as the world’s most stable currency. I hope that we can reduce our deficits and restore/retain the status in the world market because if we don’t, the economic collapse we are facing will make the recent recession look like the best of times.
Chuck, you know damned well that I was not saying that “conservative voices here will only be considered as trolls”. If you consider Suzie and Lake Claytor or any other dishonest, insulting and degrading conservative to be your pard, that is your call, but everyone else here knows EXACTLY who I was speaking of and why. If you say they do not degrade the conversation, information and climate here you are not telling the truth. And neither is anyone else who claims that.
I sign my name to my posts and I have never said I spoke for ANYONE other than myself.
Suzie lies, “In actuality, I have never called for voices to be shut out or banned or whatever.” You have threatened and tried to intimidate many posters here and we all know that as well. You try to intimidate Richard Beason by denigrating his honesty, ability and business, to shut him up, just because he puts his name on his posts. You have threatened time and time again to send Ron’s posts to his superiors to shut him up. And I cannot count the times you have insisted, that my employer should know what I am saying on here, to shut me up, just because I have the courage to put my name on my posts. You are so dishonest it is sickening, well not to Chuck, or Pistol Pete or Lake Claytor, but clearly to many people you are nothing but the definition of a troll.
“I hope that we can reduce our deficits and restore/retain the status in the world market because if we don’t, the economic collapse we are facing will make the recent recession look like the best of times.” No worries Chuck, as soon as they put women in their place, they will get right on that.
Chuck, you are so willing to call people out so please share with the room who the “extremes on either side are” in this room?
#52 Once again pammala supports blatant racism. Way to go.
“The price of everything is rising, often times without any reasonable market explanation.”
It’s called greed, Chuck, I’m sure you’re familiar with the concept.
As for the deficit, that’s what happens when you cut taxes and start two wars.
#66 Gee, suzie, I wonder what the purpose is when you suggest posters’ employers should be contacted to see if they know what they’re saying on line or when you speculate about whether a person is posting on work time? Were you saying that stuff to encourage a free exchange?
Anyway, it’s not even worth spending the time to list all of the dishonest and purposely disruptive stuff you do that’s quite obviously aimed at nothing other than shutting people up.
Then there are the right wingers (NEVER liberals) over the past couple of years who have threatened to punch out liberal posters. I guess that was also intended to encourage a freer discussion?
When have prices not risen? I missed that period of time. 30 years of digging means we are in a deep hole and despite the TP/GOP rhetoric, changing the occupant of the White House is not going to fix any of the things you are complaining about. Every credible economist has said, repeatedly, that this will be a long, slow recovery.
Not that ANYONE doubted the hypocrisy of the right, but we will wait to see how supportive of the movement to fire Ed Schultz the blogs resident FlimFlam supporters are:
“Unfortunately, MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz regularly doles out hate-filled, venomous rhetoric which has reached a boiling point. MSNBC should not give Mr. Schultz a platform to spew such hate.”

As for the deficit, that’s what happens when you cut taxes and start two wars.
Comment by Art Hill — March 16, 2012 @ 11:04 pm
You tell em Art. That explains the trillion dollar deficits and increasing debt over the last three and a half years. Oh wait, how do you explain the last three and half years.
“Oh wait, how do you explain the last three and half years?”
In actuality, you have declared threads closed to further comment. The declaration was,,ridiculous
Of course it is. Intentionally so.
Chuck’s complaint was of Sandi’s attempt to shut out voices from the other side. Yet you bring me into it when nothing about his question has anything to do with me. LOL.
wait, how do you explain the last three and half years?”
Amazing, isn’t it? By all accounts, Bush ran the economy beautifully the first six years, with record Dows and minuscule unemployment as he pulled us out of the Clinton recession; then when the Democrats took Congress he suddenly forgot how.
You try to intimidate Richard Beason by denigrating his honesty, ability and business, to shut him up, just because he puts his name on his posts
LMAO. I just ask him how he can fight for his wealthy clients, if he has any, to pay as little in taxes as possible when, as a liberal, he clearly rich people don’t pay enough. That has nothing to do with knowing his name or not. I do wonder aloud why people like you who publish their full names would say the stupid things you do.
As for you and liberal Ron, I’ve never threatened either of you, I just ask how you would like it if your bosses/board knew what you spew on this blog, and suggest it would be interesting if they did. In Ron’s case, he was trying to shut conservative voices out of the airwaves by bringing his Catholic College into it. In your case, you slam the very type of people who employ you.
Bush hasnt been president during those years gdad, pathetic answer..but typical and common coming from such low class
sorry gdad, it was artieboy I should have addressed, however you too can learn as hopefully he might
this regime is so freaking sick. how come its okay for them to call conservative women names but it isnt ok to call liberal woman names..whats is the deal with the double standard, can any liberal answer this with any sense of decency and without sarcarsm?
Chuck, my understanding of the “free market” was that the willingness of people to pay the price was reason enough for it. Are you suggesting that Obama wade in and initiate price controls? That “corporate America” show more restraint in padding their bottom line at the expense of the consumer?
Don’t loom at it as higher prices….look at I as bigger profits!
It would have been refreshing to see one person on the right here call out pammala for the epithet she slung at Obama, but unlikely since plenty agree with her. And please don’t ever, ever again complain about the race card, seriously. I won’t be taken to task for calling it what it is. Even among our intensely “Christlike” RWers. And they wonder why we don’t take them and their obnoxious brand of “Christianity” seriously.
#88 Pammala, that has already been addressed ad nauseam on here. Go back and check the Limbaugh timeline thread.
#88 What’s the deal with your blatant racism, pammala? Can’t you answer with any sense of decency and without sarcasm?
#85 Riiight, suzie, it’s just coincidence that the folks you’ve wondered out loud about whether or not their bosses knew what was being posted are all posting under their own names and you know who their bosses are. No harm meant. Of course not.
You really are a complete dolt if you think we believe that.
88.Pammala = the thing about Liberal minded people is what makes us great, but it also hurts us in elections. That thing – we each think for ourselves. We take orders from no one and do not speak or shout a party line like you conservatives. We each have a brain and use it and refuse to take orders from emails of what to do and say.
Consequently, you rarely find two liberals who agree on everything or sometimes anything except that Conservatives are fools to listen to their party line, parrot the daily email, and support whatever the party line calls for. Conservatives would be much more palatable if they could think for themselves.
85. Suz = LMAO myself. Your absurd remarks and out of this world economic theory make it so easy to dispel anything you say. If I were seeking clients on this blog, you are the perfect foil, I could not pay anyone to set me up better. But, alas, I am not seeking clients here, nor actively promoting anywhere. I have been in this business long enough and have a reputation that the clients seek me and I accept those for which I want to work. As for the rich, Roanoke only has a very few, maybe, 4 or 5, whose taxes would be materially affected by my tax positions and of those I have my share as clients who are most pleased with me. Most of the professionals, which Roanoke does have a plenty, are helped, not hurt by my tax positions. Professionals are middle class, not wealthy. I support tax reductions for the middle class. You see Suz, as much as you don’t want to admit it, you are not wealthy, merely a middle class family in Roanoke that deserves a tax break, not the tax increase that the GOP and Tea Party seeks to put on us. So I actually support tax breaks for you.
#89…”It would have been refreshing to see one person on the right here call out pammala for the epithet…” If you’re talking about that bumper sticker….it made me want to puke. There is no place for that type of crap.
Sorry Kristen, like you, I’ll complain about whatever I want. The fact is there is real racism. I don’t know what you are referencing with pammela because I didn’t read back through all the posts. However, I did see the anti-Obama “Don’t re-nig” sticker and found it to be grossly racist. Just like I think Rush was wrong to call Fluke a slut and Maher was wrong to call Palin a c*nt. I don’t listen to/watch either one by the way.
However, there are also the false accusations of racism that people throw up when they have no argument to counter someone taking the president to task over his policies or actions. To pretend that too is not a common tactic is just plain dishonest. You can lump me into whatever group you want, but if I’m an intense, Christlike rightwinger, I’m doing a piss-poor job at it. I haven’t been to church in over five years. I support gun rights but I also think abortion should be legal.I don’t think raising taxes is the answer to every problem, but I do think people need to be willing to pay for the services they expect their government to provide. In the end, you will categorize me as hyper-rightwing because it makes it easier for you to fit me into one of your closely held stereotypes for people who don’t share your views.
Sandi, I was actually referencing the extremes on either side of the political spectrum, not specific people here, but if you want names, you, Kristen, Scott M and gdad seem to be pretty extreme left in this room. Some times your views aren’t THAT extreme, but you seemingly blind support of anything the liberal machine promulgates make you seem more extreme. Suzie and Lake Claytor seem pretty extreme to the right, though Lake slightly less so than Suzie. I don’t read the blogs closely enough anymore to be familiar Pistol Pete yet. Other John, when he posts, is one of the only people who springs to mind immediately as being consistently well-intentioned, thoughtful and sincere. His positions are without fail well-thought out and well-reasoned. Sometimes he comes down on the liberal side and others on the conservative. Many times he seems to be the only one here who actually considers the issue or statement on its merits rather than just taking a side based on who is speaking or which political party supports the issue at hand.
If there were a blog somewhere that only had participants like OJ, you might get your wish. I’d probably never come here, though I can’t guarantee it because in one regard I’m more like you. Every once in a while I like a good fight. I’ll also confess to being a troll at times (Dan feel free to ban me if you want). Many times when I disagree with liberals here, it isn’t so much with the position on the issue as it is the arrogance and condescension with which it is presented. “Anyone who disagrees with Obama is racist whether or not they are self-actualized enough to realize it” or “Anyone who disputes global warming is an ignorant, stupid, superstitious redneck who is too dumb to understand science and instead has to cling to their religion and guns.” It’s offensive, insulting and undermines the credibility of the argument actually being presented. For that reason, many times it’s not so much the argument I disagree with as it is the intolerance for opposing viewpoints.
Maybe it’s just the “internet effect” because it doesn’t happen nearly so much in person as it does in blogs, but it seems that these days no one can “agree to disagree” without calling each other a few names first.
On the finance issue, the repsonse are exactly what I am talking about. There were no repsonses other than to parrot some coined party lines and cast a few thinly veiled insults. No one even paid attention to what was said. If you had you might recognize a huge concession. I said if Obamacare results in significant deficit reductions, it will be worth it regardless of other socio-political considerations. However, the return replies merely dove onto the re-election campaign trail. I don’t think the problem is necessarily party based, though I do think we are quietly printing too much money which is hastening the devaluation of the dollar and in turn exacerbating the growing view of other economies that we are unstable. You can dismiss it as greed, or market demand or whatever, but the fact remains, we are printing trillions of dollars with no increase in underlying GDP while the Fed simultaneously holds interest rates artificially low. At the same time prices continue to rise and no, it is not always tied to market demand. There is no shortage of oil/gas and record or near-record high prices have ensured that demand is lower than normal, yet prices continue to rise. In the meantime the partisan hacks on both sides do nothing but point fingers and shout at one another, and the government tells us things are getting better because they have re-designed the formula used to calculate such things.
My concern is that we are headed for another crash, just like we had 80 years ago, except this time it will be our currency instead of, or at least before the stock market. Then we will have a problem that may be unrecoverable. It’s not like we can just isolate ourselves from the world economy and be self-reliant because we don’t make anything anymore. In the early 90s we shipped our manufacturing based economy overseas with free trade agreements and our business became finance based on th US having the only stable financial instrument in the world. If that goes, so does our economy.
Chuck, you can indeed complain about anything you like. It is your credibility and you can do with it what you will. When you defend the likes of Suzie, pammala or Lake Claytor, you are drawing a line that many of us find grossly offensive and frankly telling. Funny how so many manage to miss the racist comments but NEVER miss the call outs. How does that work exactly?
Yes, there is real racism and it happens to be expressed here. What some people seem to miss is that just declaring your comment, epithet or insult “not racist” is not the bar you have to meet. The ‘I can’t be racist; I have black friends’ fallacy is used too often. If your comments appear racist, they are. Period. If your comments appear offensive, threatening, ignorant, bombastic, and dishonest or whatever, does anyone ask “did you mean to be….?” No, because we all know it for what it is.
Tell me Chuck, if you are called into a discussion of your child, friend, parent, co-worker, or someone you admire, do you respond only to the substance and point they are making if they have prefaced, laced liberally and ended their comments with insults, epithets, offensive lies and irrelevant BS? Do you really? Then how do you ask us to do so with the crap that Suzie, pammala, and Lake Claytor throw up here? They do that deliberately to stop any conversation, discussion or debate because that is not their purpose here. The truth is that YOU should be as outraged by what they do as we are. The fact that you are not says much, no matter what you say in your defense.
Why should we, or anyone, discuss Obama’s (or Dem’s) faults, mistakes or the problems of this nation seriously in a room full of Suzie, pammala and Lake Claytor (and whomever can glom onto them for a time) hate, abuse and vile insults? Why would we “pile on”? Why would we treat their offensive comments as worthy of answer much less discussion? You just stated you don’t when they are ours.
I think it absolutely laughable that after three years plus blogging here you can say you think I am an extreme left-winger. That is also very telling. Am I the most liberal person you “know”?
Again, asking people to simply consider the issue or statement on its merits and ignore the bile and insult enclosed with it is unfair and the reason so much is “fought” instead of “talked”. When a train is running, who throws their positions under it? Other John withdraws rather than fight with bullies and beasts. Maybe we all should but that withdrawal just shuts down any discussion and will also not get us anywhere. Which, I believe is the whole reason Suzie et al are in here. Do you seriously believe she wants any discussion? As usual, you are so good at seeing the liberal “arrogance and condescension” and admit you don’t want anything more than to knock that down too. Yet complain if lumped in with Suzie et al? Wow.
Not one blogger here has said that “Anyone who disagrees with Obama is racist” but it is clear as day that some are and waiting for a confession or for them to become “self-actualized enough to realize it” is not required in any realm.
Do you imagine it is JUST AS “offensive, insulting and undermines the credibility of the argument” when the right wingers call AGW a hoax, a lie, about control and totally manufactured science? Why is one “intolerant” acceptable and another offensive? I’ll wait.
What you do not get is that your “concern” and possibly valid points get just as lost in the baseless call outs, mindless defenses and deliberate baiting as you claim ours do.
“#89…”It would have been refreshing to see one person on the right here call out pammala for the epithet…” If you’re talking about that bumper sticker….it made me want to puke. There is no place for that type of crap.
Comment by Phil Chitwood — March 17, 2012 @ 11:11 am”
Phil, you are a good ole boy, you tell pammala what hnic means. I’ll wait.
“well Pistol Pete — that is exactly what he intends
Lake Claytor — liar in chief again
all libbie coms– are ya still that stupid to vote for IT, the hnic?
and for those that do not know what that means, it mean Head Numbnuts in Charge…of course you can make it anything thats appropriate…lol
Comment by pammala — March 14, 2012 @ 12:43 pm”
Pammala, notice none of them want to talk about Maher. I would love for someone to slap the sh*t out of that smirking simpering misogynist.
My concern is that we are headed for another crash, just like we had 80 years ago, except this time it will be our currency instead of, or at least before the stock market. Then we will have a problem that may be unrecoverable.
I share that concern, Chuck. The scary part is, despite warnings we’ve already had about deficit spending,( i.e. our credit rating drop, Greece’s financial crisis) Democrats and some Republicans seem oblivious to it. The Tea Party are the only ones who seem to be in touch with regular Americans on the signficance of the danger. That’s why the Tea Party wins big in elections lately, it’s why 0bama is dropping in the polls despite the distractions carried out by his allies in the media, and it’s why Romney can’t put away Santorum.
2012 is the most important election in U. S. history. Conservative Republicans have got to win the WH and Congress or I fear it’s all over.
#96 Chuck, pammala’s reaction to the bumper sticker was merely to accuse liberals of being just as bad. No outrage. Earlier, she posted “HNIC” for Obama and tried to pretend she thought it meant something else, although from her post you could tell she knew exactly what it stood for.
That’s common sense. If you want to have equal footing with other states, you need to speak their language.
Only in this blog are sound ideas ridiculed, and insane ones praised.
Chuck, the price of oil has nothing to do with supply and demand and everything to do with speculative pressure. I’d like to see it regulated like any other utility, but I doubt I’d get much agreement here on that.
I have no problem being designated “extreme left” by you, because in today’s current political environment, the “mainstream right” seems to be Santorum-ish in its baseline. From that stand point, I prefer to be extreme left. Keep in mind that, from that stand point, you’re a little big lefty yourself.
Am I condescending? Yes, when someone like pammala or Dublin Dawg posts something along the lines of “0bbama iz a comunest, and he wuz born in indoneshia/kenya/wherever and isnt evn americun ennyway”…yes, I’ll certainly be condescending. And if my refusal to admit that crap like that is rooted in any legitimate philosophical differences with Obama (ok just laughed out loud at the idea of pammmala having “philosophical differences”) and reflects anything but the rankest racism bothers you, sorry. I can recognize genuine policy disagreements, and some here on the right have them. And some just hate having a black president. Some are more honest about it than others. And none of this applies to you.
If you have a problem with corporate profit taking, speak up. But don’t meander around in these vague terms about “rising prices” while somehow trying to tie it all into Obama, unless you’re willing to admit that capitalism as it currently exists here is untenable in the long run. And get ready to be labeled a communist.
“However, there are also the false accusations of racism that people throw up when they have no argument to counter someone taking the president to task over his policies or actions. To pretend that too is not a common tactic is just plain dishonest.”
Racism and religion: two tried-and-true crutches for weak arguments.
Chuck, if Dan banned people for being a troll, Suzie would have been banned a long time ago.
#95 This is what she was referring to, Phil. Racism from one of the blogs, “good” Christians.
“all libbie coms– are ya still that stupid to vote for IT, the hnic?
and for those that do not know what that means, it mean Head Numbnuts in Charge…of course you can make it anything thats appropriate…lol”
Comment by pammala — March 14, 2012 @ 12:43 pm
99. Chuck, perhaps I can explain some of the monetary issues. When the banks were in trouble in 2008, it was because they had lost almost 4 trillion dollars. They actually lost about 1 trillion dollars in assets, but they had leveraged those assets to around 4 trillion dollars. That means 4 trillion dollars went out of the worldwide money supply almost overnight when Lehman went under. The banks had no reserves left and their investment insurer, AIG, was in default. The Fed has replaced around 3 trillion dollars of the loss in money supply through TARP, the stimulus, and through buying US treasury notes and CDOs that put money back into the banks. Much of this money is required to be put back into bank reserves. The reserves do not imediately increase the money supply,, but by helping increase the bank reserves it has allowed the banks to begin loaning money again. Accordingly, even though the Fed has printed or bought US Treasury notes, it has really not increased the money supply and in fact, the over all money supply remains lower because of the losses incurred by the world through the recession.
It seems logical that if one person is losing money , someone else is making money from their loss. But unfortunately, in a recession like we have suffered that is not true. When the values of the real estate and the underlying CDOs dropped, all were losers. The values simp;ly vaporized. Since these were all highly leveraged, they vaporized exponentially. Therefore the money supply shrank by 4 trillion worldwide over night. That was why Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke begged Congress to undertake TARP and why Rick Santorem and Ron Paul are full of BS when they say the US should not have done it. The ability to loan money simply disappeared as the 4 trillion was lost. Putting the money supply back by printing money is only putting the value back into the system that was vaporized. That is why you have not seen the dollar drop and why prices have remained relatively steady. Commodity prices have risen, but except for some temporary speculation, war scares, and of course the strong growth of the BRIC nations, they really have not shown inflation. We have to remember that the BRIC Nations have not suffered from the recession and have continued to steadily grow. They are using more food and more fuel each and every year. As we come out of recession, we will be competing with them on an ever increasing basis.
I laugh pretty hard when libs who were ready to hold the rope for Herman Cain talk about racism.
Cain’s backing by the Tea Party and the left’s lynching of him revealed both sides’ true colors on race.
#108 More racism from troll suzie.
‘this regime is so freaking sick. how come its okay for them to call conservative women names but it isnt ok to call liberal woman names..whats is the deal with the double standard, can any liberal answer this with any sense of decency and without sarcasm?’
Pammala, notice none of them want to talk about Maher. I would love for someone to slap the sh*t out of that smirking simpering misogynist.

I don’t know which of you is dumber anymore. Let me explain this to you.
1-The Bill Maher/Rash Limpballs/bad name/you’re-a-hypocrite-no-you-are argument is taking place over on the Rash Limpballs’ Decline thread. It’s pretty well gone its course, but you can jump on in over there anytime.
2- No one wants to talk to pammalapdog.
Yeah, the left is fine with their acceptable white-looking and white-sounding “black” man of non-slave blood, but boy if it’s the threatening kind of real black man like Herman Cain, well, they sure show their true colors.
The fact is leftwingers ARE the racists.
contra – no one wants to talk to me because they cannot back anything up..double standard garbage just like always from the left
“#88 Pammala, that has already been addressed ad nauseam on here. Go back and check the Limbaugh timeline thread.
Comment by Debbie — March 17, 2012 @ 8:59 am”
no it hasnt deatrie, not honestly and no one can address maher and his childish spewing…you guys cant back anything up with anything real..what a bunch of losers lol
AND speaking of racism, WHO WANTS TO DISCUSS the so-called reverend wright, bammys racist so called preacher that he sat by and listened to and learned and believed for 20 years…theres your racist sandi, go eat another cookie dear..
102 Suzie, Fantastic, your logic is impeccable. How could anyone doubt such complete linear thought?
On the other hand, perhaps they should just wait a decade or so to when the official US language is Spanish.
Pammala, no one wants to respond to you, because you do your level best to appear flat out ignorant. To be treated as an intelligent adult, you have to act like one.
suzie’s Cain meme is possibly the stupidest thing she’s ever said. Herman Cain’s rejection was by the elite whites of the far, far right, not by liberals. Hence, it says nothing whatsoever about liberals. Conservative whites didn’t want the guy. I’m sure suzie’s just stunned that liberals weren’t going to completely change their political views to fall in line with Cain. Yeah, right.
And notice that it’s wingnut suzie who keeps bringing up images of ropes and lynchings when she talks about Cain? She just can’t help exposing that streak of racism deep in what passes for her soul.
#112 pammala, you don’t “talk” or discuss. You just run a few insults together and throw in a few racist remarks without proper punctuation or capitalization. Your “arguments” consist of childish “nobody wants to talk about xxxx or xxxxxx, wah, wah wah…”or what about xxxxx”? We can just see your lower lip stuck out as you attempt to type.
111. Suzie and Pammala -” Yeah, the left is fine with their acceptable white-looking and white-sounding “black” man of non-slave blood, but boy if it’s the threatening kind of “real black man like Herman Cain, well, they sure show their true colors.
Do you even read what you write. This is racist against both men and extreme. It hard to imagine stereotyping at this level being written by two women in today’s USA. Say what you want against liberals or whomever, but please stop embarrassing yourselves and Roanoke with such vile rubbish.
#111 BTW, before suzie comes back on here and predictably tries to blame the liberal MSM for Cain’s demise let’s go ahead and rip her a new one on that as well. If conservatives either don’t read the MSM or they don’t trust it, how could the liberal MSM have had such a negative affect on right-wing opinion of Cain. These were Rethugs either voting or not voting for the guy, not Dems.
Bye, bye, troll suzie.
Who has the time to decode pammy’s posts? Not I.
kristen hon, its more like ‘who has the intelligence’…I see you dont have what it takes so I will leave you to the rt rag with all your ignorant buddies..just like 0bammy, pure stupid
Pammala, as long as you continue to use words like “bammy” and “libbie com”, you will never be treated as anything other than a joke. As long as you “lol” about phrases such as “hnic” you will never be treated with respect. Own it.
121.kristen hon, its more like ‘who has the intelligence’…I see you dont have what it takes so I will leave you to the rt rag with all your ignorant buddies..just like 0bammy, pure stupid
Seriously pam…wouldn’t know where to begin with this. You’re only marginally literate, although I suspect your posts wouldn’t improve much with even excellent editing. You’re a product of substandard education, which isn’t your fault, but what IS your fault is that you haven’t endeavored to improve on it at all.
pammala, we are all very clear on “‘who has the intelligence’” and it is not you. You don’t have to like it or agree with it for it to be true. You make it true. The racists here are you and Suzie. Period.
“As long as you “lol” about phrases such as “hnic” you will never be treated with respect.”
I, too, LOL about the phrase “HNIC”. Pammala: Had ‘Nuff of that Ignorant C…Creative woman. Sorry, it was the first thing that popped into my mind.
I don’t like Obama any better than she does, but “bammy” just conjures images of teeth < 20, overalls, and chewing tobacco. One can't earn respect without being respectable.
#121 Debbie pretty much said it there, pammie, when you lol at “hnic,” you’ve told everybody what a despicable dolt you are.
“You’re only marginally literate”
I find pammala to be an excellent example of the modern Republican.
“I, too, LOL about the phrase “HNIC”. Pammala: Had ‘Nuff of that Ignorant C…Creative woman. Sorry, it was the first thing that popped into my mind.”
John Wilburn is my new best friend.
It’s mutual Contrasuzie. If the board ever breaks into tag-teams, I have dibs on Contra.
To me, ‘HNIC’ stands for ‘Had ‘Nuff of that Ignorant Catholic’, and I’m not referring to Ron.
oh and debbie dear I’M supposed to take all your libbie com insults,,what about all the crap you call conservatives, Im a mirror babe, reflecting back what you are spewing, doesnt feel too good does it..just getting your own medicine there, sugar take it like a big girl..
plus I LOVE making you people pee your pants..lol
Racism? talk to your boy bammy and his mentor wright the whitey hater..
The racists here are you and Suzie. Period.
Actually it was Sandi who was voted “most racist’ in the blog on the facebook poll, followed by Kristen.
It took me a full 6 readings of John’s comment to get it. I am so not proud of that.
Sandi writes, “…you tell pammala what hnic means. I’ll wait.”
I didn’t know ’till I read further down the page.
With you, Phil. I didn’t know either, at first.
@137 But would that have influenced your response to my request to remove her post containing that phrase? I don’t think so.
And where was all this concern when I was practically the only one who requested that Dan delete Pammela’s comment? And why are none of you holding Dan the least bit accountable for allowing a slur of this kind to stand?
No offense Dan. You and I just really disagree about this particular issue. Warren made an excellent and harsh post as well regarding it. Though as we know, I don’t read super old threads and I don’t read at all over the weekend, so perhaps more people made the request to remove the comment.
I didn’t take it down because I didn’t grasp the significance of the acronym. I took pammala at face value that she meant “numbnuts” and didn’t even consider the other n-word often used in the epithet.
At this point I wish I had taken it down. Now I feel like it’s too late to do that. Sorry.
Dan, you should probably take down this particular blog as it contains the acronym and other racist remarks that reflect so poorly on Roanoke.
Pammala, the only thing you do on this blog is continuously make yourself look like an illiterate fool. It’s not humorous in the least, it’s sad.
@139 Thanks for that response Dan. The bottom line is that Pammala knew exactly what it meant and then put in an alternative word so that she could point at other people when they called her out as being racist. You know, pull the whole “you’re the one that thought of the “n” word, not me! So you are the racist” garbage.
It is water under the bridge now but I’m glad that in retrospect you perhaps would’ve agreed with me. I would go one step further and say that it is my belief that using the “n” word in connection with our President (or anyone for that matter) is so far over the line that the poster should be banned either temporarily or permanently from posting here. Again, as I posted in the original thread this occurred in, somethings should be zero tolerance and it is my opinion that this is one of them.
But again, water under the bridge now and thank you again for the post.
It took me a full 6 readings of John’s comment to get it.
It’s not news you are slow, cupcake.
Dan didn’t. I didn’t. Only racists did.
Some days I love this place and some days I am embarrassed to be caught here. I agree with Miriam, part of the climate of this blog has to be on you Dan. Degenerates will do what they do when allowed. Period. No one buys that pammala meant “numbnuts” as that is not remotely the expression. No one buys that Suzie’s references to “monkey boy” mean anything other than another way to throw a racial epithet and you keep letting it happen for a reason.
@144 Nice attempt at deflection. It will not work. Anyway, this isn’t addressed towards you Suzie. Pammala knew exactly what it stood for and even pointed that direction in her original post.
Having an understanding of acronyms does not = racist. That’s just silly.
But again, not everything is about you Suzie. This conversation directly, and only, relates to Pammala and Pammala knew exactly what she was saying when she posted. Exactly.
Miriam, the reason I can’t be bothered to pick and choose which slop of Suzie and pammala’s to address and request intervention on is that I’m tried of banging my head on that particular wall. I don’t feel the need to expend energy countering their every idiocy just to prove I don’t agree with them.
They are what they are, and they’re not going anywhere. Whatever it takes to get “banned” they haven’t done, and hell we have DD crawling up from the sewer with another name even though he actually got kicked once.
I doubt that my opinion of people who would post that acronym about anyone – much less the president of the united states – would make the cut. And if anyone thinks that my lack of comment confers approval, kmock yourselves out. The best way to stick it back to these cretins is to work and ensure they and their distasteful candidates get nowhere near the White House next fall.
Obama 2012. There’s no point in responding any other way to them.
#144 “Dan didn’t. I didn’t. Only racists did.”
suzie just called pammala a racist.
@145 I agree Sandi. I would add that the general tone of most all the conversations has been lowered and become more hostile since everyone decided to sort of “give it right back” in kind. We would honestly do better to simply ignore most of the posts, or if there is a post that is either worthy of a response (or we can’t control the need to respond), that *we* should control the tenor of the conversation and the level to which the *we* will allow ourselves to communicate. By “we”, I pretty much mean everyone except the very small handful of people that post trolling threads and comments.
So, the largest issue with the climate is actually all of us. But then as I said, I do think Dan needs to occasionally draw the line (which he may very well do more than we realize).
The Virginian-Pilot has the GREATEST feature I have seen yet on a blog and I am hoping that Roanoke.com has it soon.

Lobby hard folks!
@147 Good point Kristen. I agree with you generally. I only bang my head occasionally. This was one of those occasions. I’ve put an icepack on the ole noggin’ and will join you in: OBAMA 2012!
A couple of my posts are missing from this thread. Why?
But again, not everything is about you Suzie. This conversation directly, and only, relates to Pammala and Pammala knew exactly what she was saying when she posted. Exactly.
I love it when leftwingers tell us what we mean or are thinking. These are people who don’t know their own butt from first base.
#152 OMG, suzie’s hallucinating again. Maybe she’ll leave in outrage only to return a short time later — again?
“And where was all this concern when I was practically the only one who requested that Dan delete Pammela’s comment? And why are none of you holding Dan the least bit accountable for allowing a slur of this kind to stand?”
Alright Miriam, get a hold of yourself. I don’t agree with it either, but in a way, it’s kind of nice to not force a verneer of civilization onto people like that. When they are allowed to post stuff like she did, everyone has constructive notice of her veiwpoints and attutudes and know who they’re really dealing with. I’d rather know personally. The NAACP sponsored an event once where a large gathering symbolically and literally buried the N-word in a coffin. Since the attitudes and feelings of people weren’t buried with it, it is important to remember what made the word so offensive in the first place. Otherwise, with it “sanitized” out of our culture only for the sake of appearances, we could get to the point where the word makes a comeback and becomes hip again with future generations who didn’t live though it’s original perjorative use.
The fact that it was merely hinted to on the blog, but was universally rebuked, is fine with me. People who visit and read this will at least know who feels how and that the majority of us aren’t indifferent to it.
A couple of my posts are missing from this thread. Why?
OK, I see one of them.
For what it is worth, it bothers me every time I am part of that “lowering” Miriam and I am trying hard to be both more selective on what I respond to and how I do so. I will never dignify hate with a calm, logical respectful reply, but I am working on it. Nobody ever said life was fair.
Dare we hope some comments were trashed and a certain dimwit will be forced to live up to a promise made and go away?
#152 OMG, suzie’s hallucinating again. Maybe she’ll leave in outrage only to return a short time later — again?</em.
Those posts were magically restored the day after. Even you couldn't explain why you waited a day to respond to them.
@155 I hear ya John. But look, everyone has their button that can be pushed, right? This one happened to push mine. I understand why Dan let the comment stand and I just disagree. It won’t be the first or last time I disagree with folks here. I don’t even think I over-reacted. I think my reaction is pretty justified. But to the extent that I accused others of not caring when in fact they did (and spoke up), I certainly apologize.
@157 Sandi, no worries. HUG!
#156 Why, look, they’ve magically appeared again!!! Dan, you bad boy, you’ve got to quit messing with suzie’s mind.
#159 Sure, whatever you say, suzie. Settle down. Take it easy.
Dan, do us all a righteous favor and let more than a few go missing!
you people get crazy over the slightest thing…
what I said was head numbnuts in charge, and since he is a numbnuts, where is the slur? you people made it what you wanted and there is NO way you can say that you KNOW what I meant because ya dont…ok now you can continue fighting among your selves again…lol
better than a movie on here…hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Suzie, do you take the thread from the top every time to make sure your posts are still there? I likely wouldn’t notice if some of mine went MIA.
It reminds me of this eccentric old guy that lived next door to a friend of mine. Every time he parks his car, he sets two small wooden blocks on each corner of the bumper and checks them and picks them up right before each time he gets in his car to drive off. I guess he’s worried about someone bumping his car and just wants more things to worry about.
“all libbie coms– are ya still that stupid to vote for IT, the hnic?
and for those that do not know what that means, it mean Head Numbnuts in Charge…*******of course you can make it anything thats appropriate…lol*****”
Pammala, I’ve put some pretty little stars around the part of what you said that makes it clear you knew exactly what you were implying. You may lie to us all day long, but no one here is going to believe you. Well, except for Suzie. Enjoy being a deluded duo.

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!
He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
