Losers of lawsuits should pay legal fees of the winner, he writes

Thank you, Dan.

Your article about this lawsuit is right on target. This is nothing less than using the legal system to punish a teacher for attempting to maintain order in the classroom.

Frivolous lawsuits have become so common and are such a waste of time and money. The “injured” party can always find an attorney to file their case and neither have anything to lose.

They know that the accused will be punished, even if not convicted, simply by having to pay legal fees for their defense. Perhaps a good way to handle these cases and eliminate the wasted time and money would be to change the system to make the loser pay.

If people knew that they would have to bear the cost of the trial and pay the same damages that they seek, they would  be more reluctant to bring these ridiculous lawsuits.

However, the drawback would be that we wouldn’t need so many sleazy lawyers and the courts would have more time to consider the legitimate cases that are brought them.

Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your columns.

They would also be reluctant to bring legitimate lawsuits.
