Just what I needed to inspire my day..a quote from a guy who denied God, despised Christianity, and had a complete mental breakdown at the end of his life.

Someone all liberals can look up to.

  2. Hillary | April 24, 2012 at 11:51 am

Yee-gads! Those elitist educated persons [Mr. Diamond is professor emeritus at MIT and a Nobel laureate in economics. Mr. Saez is a professor of economics at UC Berkeley and a John Bates Clark medalist] are out to debunk the sacred, “trickle-down” theory or the “rich-people-are-job-creators” so leaaaaave them alooooone meme.

Wow – Dan you must be a socialist-communist-nazi… to bring that to the attention of the duped masses…

  3. Henry | April 24, 2012 at 11:52 am

Anyone with as little as a minor in marketing will see the flaw in the Wall St Journal article.
“growth averaged 2.23% between 1950 and 1980 when top tax rates were at or above 70%.”

That was also the period when the poor paid the federal income tax. If he thinks we should return to the days when everyone paid the income tax instead of letting 50% of taxpayers avoid the income tax, I’ll entertain that idea. Imagine the growth if we allowed the poor to invest in America and quit paying people to be poor.

  4. Old Blue | April 24, 2012 at 11:58 am

“Turning into monsters”. Sounds like the U.S. We are currently the most aggressive, war-like nation on the planet. And yet we call it the Defense Department.

  5. Dan Casey | April 24, 2012 at 12:08 pm

It’s not me that’s the socialist-communist-nazi, Hillary. It’s the WALL STREET JOURNAL

  6. Old Blue | April 24, 2012 at 12:11 pm

Doesn’t anyone else remember that George H. W. Bush himself once called “supply side economics” (a.k.a. trickle down) Voodoo Economics?

  7. Sandi Saunders | April 24, 2012 at 12:15 pm

Good point Pistol, maybe he will hit on a pearl of “brilliance” from the “hyper-egotism, power-worship and anarcho-capitalism” mantra of Ayn Rand so you will feel more at home, next time.

  8. Yupbilly | April 24, 2012 at 12:24 pm

Pistol Pete, Are you saying that all liberals deny God and despise Christianity?

  9. Kristen | April 24, 2012 at 12:41 pm

So was anyone surprised the RT endorsed Mark Lucas? I expected terps to be on here lauding their position.

  10. Kristen | April 24, 2012 at 12:44 pm

PP, smart educated people take in information from sources they agree with and sources they don’t.

  11. Lynda K | April 24, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Pistol… One’s political or religious leanings hardly supersede every other intelligent thought in their brains. Would you like it if folks considered you a closed minded, religious lunatic, based solely on those characteristics?

  12. Hillary | April 24, 2012 at 1:21 pm

Yes Dan, but, but, but…you posted the link on the blog! Are you trying to re-”educate” the masses. You know that the WSJ is the democratic propaganda arm of the liberal media machine…

  13. Ron | April 24, 2012 at 1:22 pm

Many on here wonder why Dan puts up a variety of threads on a whole host of issues about guns. The two most recent gun posts have so far generated 96 comments. The six non-gun threads surrounding the gun threads have a total of 92 comments so far. Sort of outlines where our priorities are, I guess.

  14. Bill Perdue | April 24, 2012 at 4:34 pm

    Pistol Pete,

One lesson that I’ve tried to learn is not to judge others harshly (you will be judged according to how harshly you judge others).

  15. Dan Casey | April 24, 2012 at 5:33 pm
  16. Sandi Saunders | April 24, 2012 at 6:02 pm

Bill Perdue, every time I read a post from you, I am reminded what a stand up guy you must be. If we ever meet, I owe you a beverage of your choice and an in person ‘thank you’!

  17. Cold n P | April 24, 2012 at 6:12 pm

The phrase/Name “Crystal Ball” is forever changed in my minds eye…

  18. Hillary | April 24, 2012 at 7:00 pm

Speaking of bizarre…Ann Romney puts her foot in her mouth again while speaking to a roomful of Republicans today…

““I love the fact that there are women out there who don’t have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids. Thank goodness that we value those people too. And sometimes life isn’t easy for any of us.”
    http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/ann-romney-seeks-for-sympathy-in-stamford-and-get

Yes and I bet those women who “don’t have a choice” just love it too…

  19. Ron | April 24, 2012 at 7:09 pm

If I could play the banjo, fiddle or guitar as well as any one of these young men I would quit my day job. :)

  20. Dan Casey | April 24, 2012 at 7:41 pm

Bill Perdue is indeed a good guy. Same goes for Steve C, Richard J. Beason, Kristen, Lynda K, Cold n P, Michael Howdyshell, and any others I neglected to mention who I’ve personally met through this humble blog. (I would have met Tom, aka bug, but he moved to Florida before we could make that happen).

  22. Sandi Saunders | April 24, 2012 at 9:20 pm

They are a talented bunch of boys Ron!

  23. Bill Perdue | April 24, 2012 at 10:09 pm

Sandi (and Dan too), I appreciate that very much. We need to have a Gonzo get together soon!

I have learned a lot on this blog. Sometimes it’s hard to get past the trolls’ (plural) attacks but the interaction on this blog has caused me to consider other points of view and actually, I’ve changed my mind on several issues.

  24. gdad | April 24, 2012 at 10:56 pm

Looks like the nuns are telling the pope to go to you know where…

“American Nuns Reject Vatican’s Orders – Say They Are Not Going To Stop ‘Caring For The Least Among Us’

“After the report was published, Campbell said it was “painfully obvious” the Vatican leadership was “not used to having educated women form thoughtful opinions and engage in dialogue.”

  25. Sandi Saunders | April 24, 2012 at 11:00 pm

I know it is hard Bill, that is what makes you so special. I would seriously consider any challenge to my POV or question you had for my position on any issue because you have earned the respect I feel for you. I think you know I do not say that lightly.

I agree, we need to meet and put faces and people to the names.

  26. John Wilburn | April 24, 2012 at 11:30 pm

13.”Pistol… One’s political or religious leanings hardly supersede every other intelligent thought in their brains. Would you like it if folks considered you a closed minded, religious lunatic, based solely on those characteristics?”

    Lynda,
By the same token, you did just judge all gun owners based on the classroom incident article. You have reconsidered that, right?

  27. Suzie | April 24, 2012 at 11:50 pm

I have learned a lot on this blog. Sometimes it’s hard to get past the trolls’ (plural) attacks but the interaction on this blog has caused me to consider other points of view and actually, I’ve changed my mind on several issues.

Which issues have you changed your mind on, Bill?

  28. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 12:02 am

Gotta go, kids. Got intervals early tomorrow.

If you want to sear your lungs and get a hell of a fat-burning workout, do intervals with whatever you do; run, bike, row. Don’t forget the red and blue berries to help you repair the free radical damage afterward.

Oh wait. I’ve forgotten my audience. Lefties in here aren’t really into fitness. For me, hard exercise is one of the greatest joys of retirement.

  29. Art Hill | April 25, 2012 at 12:58 am

“Oh wait. I’ve forgotten my audience.”

Shame they can’t forget you. Break a leg!

  30. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 7:40 am

#30 Look whose up at “loser” time (as declared by the troll itself). Past midnight.

  31. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 7:42 am

Hard to believe Peter Via, a die-hard Repub, is giving that much money to Bowers. BTW, Via is (or at least was years ago) a hard-core comic book collector. Cool.

  32. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 7:43 am

Shame they can’t forget you. Break a leg!

Let me make the wild prediction that Poodle here isn’t big on exercise.

  33. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 7:48 am

#30 BTW, troll suzie, good job looking up information about how to exercise. You’re really learning to use them Internets.

  34. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 9:19 am

  35. Ron | April 25, 2012 at 10:04 am

Someone just sent me the video of Suzie Q’s exercise session this morning. It’s really intense. :)

  36. Kristen | April 25, 2012 at 10:26 am

Funny Ron…looked more like Lamaze breathing!

  37. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 10:46 am

I would seriously consider any challenge to my POV

Horsesh*t. No amount of evidence will ever change the mind of a rabid blind partisan like yourself. Here this country is being torn apart at its foundations by the anti-American Marxists in charge, yet you think Monkey Boy is doing a hell of a job.

Hurry please with that voter IQ test! If you DON’T pass, you DON’T freaking vote.

  38. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 10:49 am

#36 Let’s put it this way, troll suzie, if you can beat my son in a 5K, that means you’re just about the fastest female of any age in the Roanoke Valley.

    So much for that BS.

  39. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 10:51 am

I suspect we will never live to see you prove even one boast you have ever made Suzie, so why bother? I bet you “can leap tall buildings in a single bound” too, but ask us if we care?

  40. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 10:55 am

You are like a rabid dog complaining about someone else slobbering, Suzie. Get over yourself and go away. You will not be missed or mourned. You create such an awful climate here that no one can be totally honest, vulnerable or even reasonable without receiving just that sort of sucker punch. You have ruined any chance this place ever had for real, honest or productive dialog and the minions who follow your lead with their pale but just as dishonest imitations see to it no real conversations are ever had here. You should be proud and Dan should be ashamed.

  41. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 11:13 am

#36 Let’s put it this way, troll suzie, if you can beat my son in a 5K, that means you’re just about the fastest female of any age in the Roanoke Valley

    A 5K what? Power walk?

I saw this video and couldn’t help think how well it would fit in with the liberals’ kids “athletics” program at PH:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbB9v8ooQno

    LMAO.

  42. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 11:26 am

#43 Note that suzie doesn’t offer her 5K time for public consumption, yet alleges she can beat a kid who ran on his high school’s cross country and indoor track teams and played soccer on a team where you’re required to break 12:00 for the 2-mile (not that that’s a great time; he did that without breathing very hard).

    What a joker.

  43. Uptheriver | April 25, 2012 at 11:36 am

@43 – now that is some hilarious commentary in that video.

  44. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 11:44 am

You create such an awful climate here that no one can be totally honest, vulnerable or even reasonable without receiving just that sort of sucker punch.

Spare us the pity party, Sandi. Your smarmy tribute to Bill Perdue was made because he took a shot at a conservative. That’s they way all you’re ‘compliments’ are.

  45. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 12:02 pm

#43 BTW, it WOULD be just like suzie to post video where the commentary calls people “gay” and “homo” because they race walk, and it would be like UTR to think that’s funny.

As for race walking, the women’s world record for a 20k (about 12.5 miles) is under 1 hour, 25 minutes. I GUARANTEE that’s faster than suzie could run it.

  46. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Bill Perdue has admitted to being much more conservative than I am on several occasions. For him to be honest about what the blind partisan attack dogs like you will not, is refreshing and I do appreciate it. He has said honest things about Dems and Libs that I have agreed with also. Which you might know if your purpose here was anything other than hate and insults. Like I said, you ruin every conversation you enter. I pity the people who have to contend with you in person.

  47. Kristen | April 25, 2012 at 12:26 pm

For a childless person living in the county, SuzieQ, you sure spend a lot of time worrying about what goes on in City school. Too bad no one gives a rat’s ass. Non-parents can keep their opinions to themselves..non-tax payers too.

gdad, they tend to find bigotted blatherings “hilarious”. Then they snivel when being accused of being bigots. Slow learners, them.

  48. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 8:29 pm

    non-tax payers too.

The problem sweetcakes is we pay many times more in city RE taxes than the landlord of your SE fourplex. So since I am basically raising your kids seven hours a day, you’re damn right I have an opinion about your incompetent school system.

  49. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 8:31 pm

As for race walking, the women’s world record for a 20k (about 12.5 miles) is under 1 hour, 25 minutes. I GUARANTEE that’s faster than suzie could run it.

They don’t even walk; they run. What kind of idiotic sport disqualifies 10% of the field every meet, including the Olympics?

  50. Kristen | April 25, 2012 at 8:56 pm

SuzieQ I doubt you could successfully parent a chia pet. L

  51. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 10:14 pm

I doubt you could successfully parent a chia pet.

Chia pets and RCPS students probably have about the same graduation rate.

  52. Kristen | April 25, 2012 at 11:03 pm

Don’t knock Roanoke County Public Schools. They’re not as bad as they’re cracked up to be. P

  54. Contrasuzie | April 26, 2012 at 2:06 am

I don’t know about you guys, but the thought of Screwzie in a sweat from exercising makes me want to poke my brain-eyes out.

Anyway, I could beat her on a bike or a foot race. Easily.

  55. Suzie | April 26, 2012 at 10:24 am

I find that after I beat up Gdad on a topic, “Contra” magically appears. I am so surprised.

If I buy you a dead horse to keep in your backyard, will you just beat it instead of wasting blog space with this boring ASSumption?

  57. gdad | April 26, 2012 at 11:57 am

#57 Well, seeing as suzie NEVER beats me up on any topic…

  58. Suzie | April 26, 2012 at 12:06 pm

I see I intimidated “Contra” into changing its avatar. A very wise move. People generally see the wisdom of doing what I want done.

  59. gdad | April 26, 2012 at 1:07 pm

I see I intimidated suzie into changing the subject.

Actually, I was hoping she would post some more videos of people calling others “homos” and “gay.” It’s always good to see her show her true colors.

  60. dave | April 26, 2012 at 1:44 pm

    Contrasuzie@11:03

Just send her a truckload of horse manure. That will be much more in keeping with the quality and truthfulness of her posts. Then she could fertilize her yard at the trailer park and have some left over for her perfume collection.

  61. Sandi Saunders | April 26, 2012 at 3:07 pm

Suzie, the only time you and wisdom are even in the same room is when you force her against her will, you’re a bully. She runs from you like people do a skunk.

Precisely how does one anonymous poster on a blog ‘intimidate’ another anonymous poster on a blog?
