A typical sign of a (conservative) blogger in decline

From his Facebook page

From his Facebook page

Jerry Furhman of Bland County loves to hate the stuff I write, and he loves to write about that hatred on his blog, From on High.

That’s flattering in no small way, because Jerry’s helping spread the word about my humble columns every time he writes about me.  Heck, Jerry’s efforts may actually have played a key role in my being recently named one of America’s top columnists.

So Jerry, if you had anything to do with that, thanks partner!

Anyway, I’m kind of concerned about him these days, for reasons that have nothing to do with the unusual photo on the left.

It appears Jerry’s  been going through an intellectual rough patch of late, which may be a sign of a much longer-term cognitive decline. The evidence: he’s no longer content with forcefully criticizing  arguments he opposes.  Now, he’s devolved into the name-calling of writers with whom he disagrees.

The worst part? His insults aren’t even creative. Instead, they’re banal and lame, and usually bathroom-centered, such as  “. . .sh*t-for-brains Dan Casey. . .

I would email him and ask how low he intends to go with “From On High” but I don’t want to tax his brain with my wit.

He sounds terribly frustrated. Hang in there, Jerry! The good readers of this blog will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Sounds like another devoted disciple of Rush Limbaugh with just about the same level of intelligence.

Folks, take another look, closely, and tell me whether I’m imagining this: the funniest part of the picture is the dark patch between his nose and upper lip. If that’s a moustache, Jerry’d certainly be welcome in some parts of rural Idaho and possibly Argentina.

The upside for Mr. Furhman is that he got some good advertising from this. I had never heard of him before. The upside for us is that it looks like you may have found a great place for Suzie!

The simple fact that you were named one of the top columnist in this
country shows without a doubt the sorry shape of this country and our
newspapers in general. you definitely belong in some banana republic where your views would be much more appreciated. CUBA?, VENEZUELA?

  5. Kristen | April 25, 2012 at 7:54 pm

Wow….he gets a lot of comments, huh.
You’rw boring, Furhman. Being an obnoxious turd is only acceptable if you can muster up some entertainment value.

  6. Suzie | April 25, 2012 at 8:36 pm

Oh cool. A place to post the deleted posts, so everyone can see. I bet Jerry will do it.

    Thanks much, Dan.

  7. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 9:07 pm

See Suzie, there are sites where you would fit right in.

  8. John Wilburn | April 25, 2012 at 9:14 pm

6.”Oh cool. A place to post the deleted posts, so everyone can see.”

For who to see? He had ZERO comments. You should go over there and help him build his blog!

That picture is simply precious! American flag on the left – foreign-made rifle on the right. Hell, the flag was probably made in China. You’re a true patriotic American, Mr. Furhman. I’d salute you, but it’s extremely rude to use that finger like that.

He seems to further prove my suspicions that the conservative asylum, er, party is now firmly under the control of the inmates. I’ve voted conservative my entire life, but I’ll be voting to reelect Obama this fall.

While I rarely agree with your opinions, Mr. Casey, you mostly deliver them articulately and without malice. This guy is simply using your name in an attempt to drum up more traffic to his foundering blog. Let’s stop feeding the trolls, sir. In two years, you’ll still be getting paid to write and he’ll still be blogging for his four (give or take) readers.

I think all of you should leave a sympathetic message on Jerry’s blog. It might make him feel better. Poor Jerry.

A typical sign of a (conservative) blogger in decline.

This headline is as accurate as the “Rush Limbaugh in Decline” thread.

Duh, Poor Jerry’s self proclaimed “Most Influential Blog in Virginia” hasn’t had a hit since Sunday. I’m not one to break the losing streak. First you have to have Sympathy for someone. I have none for the bigot. My only hope is we have a couple who earnestly try to up his ratings and join him…

  13. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 10:56 pm

Thanks J.M. White, you give me hope that not all Conservatives and Republicans have lost their mind. Some days, I gotta wonder.

  14. gdad | April 25, 2012 at 10:58 pm

#6 Yeah, suze, he might post them. And none of us will have any idea whatsoever whether they’re what you actually posted here. Given the volume of your lies on this blog, you’d probably later them. And why would he even care?

And boy is it sad that you actually have a copy of the posts. Pitiful. Really pitiful.

  15. Dan Casey | April 25, 2012 at 11:13 pm

I think maybe he meant “most influential blog in Bland County.”

  16. Sandi Saunders | April 25, 2012 at 11:20 pm

He sounds like her soul mate, I think they would make a perfect pair. I wish you bliss…and gone.

  17. J.M.White | April 25, 2012 at 11:58 pm

Most influential blog in Bland County? No sir. That would go to ol’ Tim Donaldsonhurstenstein’s “Hog Farmin’ in Clear Fork” blog at http://www.notarealblog.fakedomain.com

I must admit that I’m going to have to start watching what this nutjob is posting a little more often. That’s especially true since Suzie’s going to be posting these allegedly scandalous deleted comments there. Should be good fun.

    #17: or looking like a horses butt…

  20. John Wilburn | April 26, 2012 at 10:41 am

15.”I think maybe he meant “most influential blog in Bland County.”

17.”Most influential blog in Bland County? No sir. That would go to ol’ Tim Donaldsonhurstenstein’s “Hog Farmin’ in Clear Fork” blog…”

NO WAY. There are TWO blogs in Bland county?! This has to be the biggest news since Subway opened a store there and the guy who owns the Tire Outlet retiring. When I was a kid, I went target shooting there at a range in the middle of town that was behind left field of a T ball/softball field near the courthouse. No foolin.

  21. Suzie | April 26, 2012 at 10:43 am

Just visited Jerry’s blog. Excellent stuff and very well-written. I can certainly understand Dan’s jealousy.

  22. Sandi Saunders | April 26, 2012 at 12:35 pm

Don’t just visit, take up residency. You are two peas in a rotten pod. Go for it.

  23. Bill Perdue | April 26, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Take away the bibs and it would look like a picture from Iraq

  24. J.M.White | April 26, 2012 at 9:25 pm

Suzie: why don’t you just pull Dan’s hair or call him a poopy-head? Your crush on him is embarrassing.

Bill Perdue: If you take away the bibs, the only things made in the U.S.A. in that pic will be himself and the location.

About this blog

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!

He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
