Wow, Romney is looking like a worse and worse choice. Here’s what one person on the right said after Romney caved and let an openly gay member of his team quit:
Bryan Fischer, right-wing extremist and leader of the American Family Association: “Let me ask you this question, people have raised this question. If Mitt Romney can be pushed around, intimidated, coerced, co-opted by a conservative radio talk show host in Middle America, then how is he going to stand up to the Chinese? How is he going to stand up to Putin? How is he going to stand up to North Korea if he can be pushed around by a yokel like me?”
Captcha ought to be fixed, folks. Let me know if you’re still having issues.
Dan, that’s going to be our new system? Easier to cut and paste then try to recreate the CAPTCHA.
The judge is hearing oral arguments in the Giles County 10 commandments case beginning today. Try tt put yourself in the judge’s shoes for a moment. First, he has to put aside his personal opinions and rule based on the facts of the case. And his decision is almost certain to be appealed, so the pressure is on him not to make any errors that would render the decision reversible. Glad it’s not me.
Please explain this for me.
George Zimmerman has a black grandmother and is 1/4 black. The NYT describes him as a “white hispanic.”
Elizabeth Warren is 1/32 Cherokee and Harvard lists her as an American Indian.
Can we agree that the racial spoils system has gotten a little out of hand?
Obama the flip flopper!! I never saw this coming… (LOL)
I just keep remembering his interview with Rick Warren in 2008….
You guys totally did away with the CAPTCHA. The source “password” is in the page’s code and can be filled into the other box with just a few lines of code.
In other words, it is just an inconvenience now, rather than an anti-spam mechanism.
Also, Dan, could you please confirm for me if the IP address that this comment is coming from is 184.108.40.206?
Old Blue, probably not as cut and dry case as everyone thinks.
It originally began as a historical display (posted with Constitution and not standing alone)
Never been a case like it
Endorsement/or Establishment must be proved.
I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes, either.
“George Zimmerman has a black grandmother and is 1/4 black. The NYT describes him as a “white hispanic.””
And yet Tiger Woods is 1/4 black and is considered to be black.
Putting aside personal opinion and ruling on the merits of a case is exactly what a judge’s job is. I’m sure it’s a difficult one, frequently, but I don’t feel sorry for the guy.
#6 I see no big flip-flop here.
I agree. Personally, as I have written before, I prefer the government to be totally out of the religion business. But what Giles County did n this case may very well pass constitutional muster. That’s what the judge will have to decide. Probably with help from the Supremes.
I thought the article linked below was pretty interesting.
The government can’t “get out of the religion” business. Our schools have a ban on head coverings UNLESS your religion requires it. Are you proposing that schools remove the religious exemption? I don’t think so.
“Judge Michael Urbanski has indicated that he will order the case into mediation, in large part because of the financial cost to the school board if the matter were to be litigated.
He said he would want the two sides to look at whether the first four commandments, which are more explicitly religious, could be removed from the display, leaving the other six, more secular, commandments.
“I just wonder if there isn’t a reasonable compromise,” Urbanski said.”
Ya know, you all REALLY should visit some sites besides the “liberal ones” at least every once in a while, then you won’t be blind-sided by things like THIS….
Conservatives: As if Obama isn’t providing enough of his own rope this election year, this needs to go VIRAL…
Just keeping you honest, Dan.
Wow, Romney is looking like a worse and worse choice
Gallup: Romney Leading.
I’ve never heard of a judge wanting to cut the Ten Commandments down to six before. Seems questionable to me.
“He said he would want the two sides to look at whether the first four commandments, which are more explicitly religious, could be removed from the display, leaving the other six, more secular, commandments.”
I’m opposed to this idea. Simply for the reason that it’s better to just see the work somewhere else than see a bastardized version of it. Mark my words, the absence of four commandments will draw far more attention than all ten anyday. This could apply to anyone’s work. I guess it’s kind of the same reason that I’m not a big fan of movies edited for TV; it cheapens what the director wanted to do. For what it’s worth, you know how I feel about religion, but I’m okay with the commandments being posted in the school so long as there is a secular, reality-based teaching to explain them. Same goes for another religion’s doctrine posted on the wall. Between whatever the kids are taught at home and their own free mind, they can make their own conclusions about the commandments. After all, there are some great values in those commandments not to be overlooked! Of course, we know this is unacceptable to the very people who are crying the loudest about keeping them in the school.
Ha ha, Sharon N,
There is nothing “honest” about putting that link on this blog.
#19 Hey, troll suzie, just quoting a hard-core right-winger on Romney’s feeble caving.
“Just keeping you honest, Dan”
Just keeping you honest Sharon.
I wonder why Romney has suddenly gone so quite on the China situation after opening his fat trap last week and nearly killing any chance of the dissident getting out? What a dolt.
IMHO, This is a disgrace!
IRS forms show charity’s money isn’t going to disabled vets
By David Fitzpatrick and Drew Griffin, CNN Special Investigations Unit
updated 9:45 PM EDT, Mon May 7, 2012
Birmingham, Alabama (CNN) — A national charity that vows to help disabled veterans and their families has spent tens of millions on marketing services, all the while doling out massive amounts of candy, hand sanitizer bottles and many other unnecessary items to veteran aid groups, according to a CNN investigation.
The Disabled National Veterans Foundation, based in Washington, D.C., and founded in 2007, received about $55.9 million in donations since it began operations in 2007, according to publicly available IRS 990 forms.
The independent group CharityWatch gave the DVNF an “F” grade. More than 30 veterans charities were rated by the independent group by the amount they spend on fundraising compared to actual donations, and two-thirds were given either a D or F grade, according to CharityWatch president Daniel Borochoff.
“Up to $2 billion is raised in the name of veterans in this country and it’s so sad that a great deal of it’s wasted,” Borochoff said. “Hundreds of millions of dollars of our charitable dollars intended to help veterans is being squandered and wasted by opportunists and by individuals and companies who see it as a profit-making opportunity.”
Good thing Romney’s white. Otherwise the the intellectual debaters here who don’t like him and call him names would be racist.
How do you switch to a personalized avatar?
I feel bad for 0bama. The arena where he kicked off his campaign (like he ever stopped) looked like a graveyard. Half full. Bored yawning people. I guess 2 million net lost jobs will do that for you.
Weren’t there some GM workers they could have forced to attend and bused in?
“Cold and Sold” That would sum up Romneys silence when a wacked out tea bagging crazy calls for Obama to be tried for treason.
Surely Romney would have the gonads to stand up and correct this crazy. No, not Willard. Like folks from another time in another country, Romney remained silent. This man cannot be trusted. He will say any thing to any body.
“Romney silent as Obama accused of treason at town hall:”
This putz has to be the worst national candidate EVER.
“How can you expect a man who’s warm to understand one who’s cold?”
Read “One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich.” Then you will understand.
Did you see the comment that the poster of tht video put under it….”I’m not sure this makes him look any better”….FYI…it doesn’t, the shorter video just cuts through that stuttering he does when he lies to us and makes us listen to a bunch of words while he tries desperately to hide the fact that what the first video shows in exactly what he means. Nice try though.
Letterman comparing military resumes’ between Jimmy Carter and Mitt Romney after Romney’s recent insult of the former president. “Jimmy Carter graduated near the top of his class at the US Naval Academy and worked on the development of the first nuclear submarine with distinguished Admiral Hyman Rickover.
Mitt Romney owns a yacht and a sailor’s hat.”
It would be HONEST if you would post the unedited version of that conversation (As Art Hill just did) instead of showing the half that suits your theory and pretending that is honest. That’s a typical
Karl Rove/Republican/Mitt Romney trick.
Chuck, go to gravatar.com and upload the image of your choice. Soon, it will be your avatar!
Look, it’s highly unlikely Obama will lose the election. But on the off chance that he does, people like the “treason” woman will want him pursued and prosecuted after he leaves the White House. To them, it was treason for him to be elected in the first place. And his election tipped the scales on their personal stability and turned them into whack jobs.
Romney should have grown a pair and challenged the woman on her “treason” claim.
Tough Saturday for Obama Only 9000 people showed up to hear him speak at VCU on Saturdau and just over 14000 at Ohio State. This compared to Romney’s huge crowds in Nova and in Portsmouth I think there were 67 handpicked supporters in Northern Va. and about 157 including Gov. Ultrasound and the Cooch and their families (about 8% of the total. That’s some real excitement going on there.
If Mitt Romney had to actually stand up and tell somebody in the audience something that they didn’t want to hear, he’d never be able to get the words out at a volume greater than a mumble.
It will be interesting to see if Mitt Romney can generate the buzz and enthusiasm that Obama does, or that even Sarah Palin did. I just don’t see that happening.
I’d reckon it’s hard to feel much passion for a guy who has stood on just about every side of every major issue, at one time or another. And what about that dog on the roof, anyway?
Mitt Romney has the charisma of a turnip. The only image that he’ll ever be able to communicate is that of the rich guy who hangs out in skyboxes with his billionaire friends and meets them in board rooms where they make decisions about how much more money they can squueze out of the poor suckers that they snooker into voting for them.
If you bother to click on Screwzie’s link, you’ll see:
“It Aint Holy Water
Perspectives and opinions derived through the bottom of a glass”
There’s also a picture of many bottles of alcohol. Pretty well explains the vast majority of Screwzie’s posts.
‘Sharon N. says:
…makes us listen to a bunch of words…”
Considering most of your posts, Sharon N., that’s funny as hell.
I think we may finally have unmasked Suzie. It’s this guy, who may be the best thing that ever happened to the women’s lib movement.
The Reverend Jesse Lee Patterson is just Rush Limpballs made up to look like a black man.
You obviously either didn’t listen to the second half of the video as posted by Art Hill or you are too dense to comprehend what Obama actually said. So either you’re dishonest or just plain unable to understand the English language.
#27 Ah, good old Chuck, joining racist troll suzie in bringing up the race thing. Why do you all keep bringing up race? Oh I remember now.
@Dan Casey: “It will be interesting to see if Mitt Romney can generate the buzz and enthusiasm that Obama does, or that even Sarah Palin did. I just don’t see that happening.”
You mean the buzz and enthusiasm that fills half of the room?
Letterman comparing military resumes’ between Jimmy Carter and Mitt Romney
LOL. Leftwingers have to go back to the 70s to find a Democrat who actually served in the military. Talk about a reach.
#48 You really are quite dumb, aren’t you, suzie?
Awful lot of counting chickens before they hatch happening.
Obama’s the incumbent. Incumbents generally win, barring something extraordinarily awful and offered a candidate in opposition of remarkable quality. Romney is the epitome of lack of remarkable quality. I’ll say it again….a guy who takes 6 months to finally put Rick Santorum away has zero chance against Obama.
RIP Maurice Sendak
Very sad about Maurice Sendak.
Really? Which Democrat president has served in the military since Carter?
“Even Jimmy Carter would have given that order”.
Love it. We’ve had three, maybe four incredibly weak Democrat presidents in a row. All have been horrible on the economy. All have rolled over for dictators.
Seeing a pattern there? It would be very hard to find three bigger disasters than 0bama/Clinton/Carter. They are 1-2-3 in that order the worst presidents of all time.
It’s such a farce, Terps.
I thnk Romney should ask Florida crowds why 0bama was so quick to condemn a black hispanic like George Zimmerman without knowing the facts.
#55 “Really? Which Democrat president has served in the military since Carter?”
Thanks for stepping right into it and proving that you really are that dumb, suzie.
Leftwingers didn’t “go back to the 70s to find” anything at all. Letterman compared the resumes of Carter and Romney solely because Romney had insulted Carter. Romney brought it up, Letterman replied.
“So either you’re dishonest or just plain unable to understand the English language.”

Dave is obviously too much of a gentleman to say half wit.
“#27 Ah, good old Chuck, joining racist troll suzie in bringing up the race thing. Why do you all keep bringing up race? Oh I remember now.”
Imply what you want gdad. The fact is, liberals like yourself are the ones who invite those comments by consistently accusing anyone who dares not like Obama’s policies of racism. Call Obama a name – you’re a racist. Disagree with a policy – you’re a racist. Point out his lies – you’re a racist. However, liberals never gold themselves to their own standards. Apparently it is okay to call Romney names. Personally I think you all do so because he is a Mormon.
Need another example of your own liberal hypocrisy?
“Romney should have grown a pair and challenged the woman on her “treason” claim.”
So the host of this blog thinks the candidate should shout down citizens for their extreme ideas? The same moderator who allowed a multitude of comments from many posters who are still here calling for Bush to be tried for murder and war crimes, both during his term and after he left office.
You guys really are something else. You whine and moan about how extreme the conservatives are. You whine and moan about the bad behavior, name-calling, vitriol, etc., all the while completely oblivious to the fact that you constantly engage in EXACTLY the same behavior. Hypocrite doesn’t even begin to cover it.
That’s why I brought it up, since it apparently zoomed right over your head.
#59 “Call Obama a name – you’re a racist. Disagree with a policy – you’re a racist. Point out his lies – you’re a racist.”
Please provide us all some links where I’ve done that.
Twiddle thumbs. Silence. Crickets.
As I said, you, suzie, pammala and such are the ones who keep bringing up race. Says a lot about you.
Chuck, you don’t have to shout down someone to challenge them. It can be done respectfully.
Well, I can certanly attest to Chuck’s reference of the regulars on this blog refusing to believe that someone is NOT racist…just because we don’t love Obama.
Listen to the longer version..REALLY listen..the lady asked if her MOther’s spirit and zest for life would be taken into consideration in whether or not she got a pacemaker..as her Doctor decided to go for it because of these things.
Obama’s answer was, we could’t take sentiment into account…then he stuttered a little, threw in a little gobbltygook, said something about end of life treatment, and families and patients soemtimes having to decide that it would be best to take a pain pill rather than have surgery…blah blah blah…then at the end said a sentance that contradicted anything ELSE he said. I didn’t rewatch it but something along the lines of..he didn’t mean he wanted to “take that decsion out of the doctor’s hands”….???? really? When he just told everyone that families and doctors wouldn’t be able to go by “sentiment”..that they would be “talked into” taking a pain pill, rather than a surgery to prolong the life of an older person.
But, you are exact CORRECT..I really SHOULD have shown the longer version, it only more CLEARLY shows how he talks out of both sides of his mouth, along with lying.
Obama got elected LAST time because you all weren’t paying attention to what he said….or weren’t paying attention to him saying ONE thing and doing the opposite.the sheeple have been happy to run pass interference for him even. Not gonna happen this year, if we can help it. We are going to make you face and defend his incompetence, his lies, etc.
Exactly, Chuck. That’s all Gdad does. People like him trivialize true racism by their phony accusations. THEY are the true racists. I’m glad you called Gdad out. He needed it.
BTW, I actually have to agree that Romney is not high on the enthusiasm scale…..another reason to run RON PAUL against Obama…he generates more crowds and enthusiam that either of them.
Also, nice to see the the Paul supporters “back up plan” I mentioned is making some headway and drawing the attention and worry of the “establishment” GOP.
I also think we should ask Obama and Pelosi why they are silent on the violence etc in the OWS crowd. THey both have stood up to defend the OWS crowd after condemning the Tea Party, who have had NO such violence or lawbreaking.
Remeber Pelosi’s little crying stunt about how much someone standing up and challenging a politician at a town hall reminded her of the riots and violence of the past..and frankly, boo hoo, it scared her, boo hoo.
Once again you illustrate your complete failure to listen and comprehend a carefully explained position on end of life issues which ended with the President saying that ultimately those issues should be decided one on one between doctors and their patients. All the rest is two statements you took out of the middle of the video which conform to what you want to believe about the President. I would say open your eyes and ears for a change. But I’m not sure that would do any good when you can’t process and comprehend.
#64 Noted that Chuck, when challenged, couldn’t list even one incident where I’ve done any of the things he accused liberals of doing. And neither can racist troll suzie.
There’s not a single liberal in here who is respectful, Debbie. And you have a lot of nerve lecturing Chuck. You’re one of the worst offenders.
Frankly, Sharon and Chuck are very respectful, much more so than they get back. Me? I’ve decided to give liberals the respect they warrant.
#69 As far as I know, I am not hated and reviled on this blog. Except by you, and I can live with that.
I waan’t lecturing, Chuck. I was simply stating a fact.

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!
He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
