Exxon/Mobil and Walmart are 1-2 most successful corporations. These job-producing giants are also 1-2 on the Democrats’ corporate hate list. Bailout-refuser Ford was also in the top 10.

Some others in the top 10 (that liberals love) wouldn’t be there without giving them an unfair advantage; GM, GE, Berkshire-Hathaway, and Fannie Mae.

So imagine that. Libs hate the successful ones who did it on their own, hates the ones who have their hands out.

  2. gdad | May 8, 2012 at 10:26 am

Michael Howdyshell, another exciting one for PH! Somehow the paper had it as 8-5 at the half but PH was down 6-0 ad then 7-1 before winning 10-8.

BTW, although Will scored three goals last night, he’s limping around on a high-ankle sprain (takes some real guts) and obviously will not heal before the season ends. Too bad. They need him healthy.

What rubbish. Exxon mobile has had more government subsidy over the years than about anyone. Walmart asked for the government to cut the debit card rates for banks and the government did as requested. You obviously are the Monkey Misinformation Troll.

  8. Dan Casey | May 8, 2012 at 1:04 pm

Soon, Romney will be taking credit for the capture/killing of bin Laden. And Suzie and pammala will jump in here and say, “Yep, Mitt deserves all the credit.”

  9. Dan Casey | May 8, 2012 at 1:08 pm

Look, the crack on Warren, first by terps and now by others including Phil Chitwood, indeed has rhetorical value. But the facts about it have been twisted just as badly as the inaccurate gibe that Gore invented the internet — WHICH HE NEVER SAID. He said he was a lawmaker who pushed for early government funding of it, and that was true. Then the RWers twisted it.

Why don’t we talk instead about something real, such as the dog on the car, or Romeny’s claim that he saved Detroit?

  10. Dan Casey | May 8, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Walmart has benefited from substantial direct and indirect government subsidies, too. Heck, they had a department whose function was to help their low-wage employees maximize the amount of government assistance they could collect in things like food stamps (which they would spend at Wal-mart, of course), Medicaid, and Social Security.

#1 Is there anything you don’t see with a political slant, a black and white me and against them viewpoint? So Ford is the now the darling of the RWers because it refused a bail out? So having their financial ship in order before the crash is a right left thing? So now that Ford is the TPers paragon of non government intervention I guess I’ll have to just sell my wonderful, fuel efficient, Ford Hybrid Escape…

    10. Dan – and then there was the employee life insurance deals Walmart ran. They would by all employees life insurance with Walmart as the beneficiary. The gov had to step in and stop such an unsavory practice.

Just imagine how much government subsidizing the unions stores have caused. All those people who couldn’t get union jobs because of the artificially high wages were forced to go on 100% public assistance. Thank God Walmart hires those people union stores reject, saving the government billions.

What about Detroit, pammala? Does Mitt deserve credit for that?

  21. Dan Casey | May 8, 2012 at 4:29 pm

The funny thing is, Ford would have gone under, too, without the bailout.

This is like the government installing fire hydrants on a street and one homeowner says they don’t want them. They still get the protection they offer. The bailout of GM and Chrysler protected the parts suppliers that Ford relies on. Without them, they would have been toast.

  22. Dan Casey | May 8, 2012 at 4:34 pm

“Dan – and then there was the employee life insurance deals Walmart ran. They would by all employees life insurance with Walmart as the beneficiary. The gov had to step in and stop such an unsavory practice.”

I had forgotten all about that. But that wasn’t a government subsidy, unless they got a tax write-off for the policy as biz expense.

And if they did that, then U.S. taxpayers were subsidizing Walmart’s bets that that it’s employees would die. No wonder they didn’t want to offer health insurance.

    I, Liberal

I’m sure that there could never be
A man as virtuous as me.
    I’ve honed my precious self-esteem
In ways no common man could dream!
    To feed my moral vanity,
    I preen for all the world to see;
    I thrust in everybody’s face
    The noble causes I embrace.

And lest there be the slightest doubt
That I’m no bitter, clinging lout,
The bumper stickers on my Volt
Affirm that I’m no right-wing dolt.
    As these credentials will attest,
I am the brightest and the best –
And true to my enlightened soul,
    Utopia shall be my goal!

    The planet should be mine to run;
I know what’s best for everyone.
My Nanny Squad will nag and scold,
Until the plebes do as they’re told.
    My Social Justice Ministry
    Will outlaw inequality –
    With good intent unwavering,
    I’ll redistribute everything!

    I’ll be obscenely generous
    With subsidy and stimulus;
To fund my drunken spending sprees,
The fat cats’ profits I will seize!
For those who fail, my heart will bleed,
But woe to those who dare succeed.
I vow to vanquish human greed –
To each according to his need!

There’ll be no want, there’ll be no war,
My Welfare Corps will feed the poor.
There’ll be no limit to my grace,
When I control the human race!
I’ll heal the Earth, I’ll low’r the Seas,
My Healthcare Force will smite disease –
And all will rightly worship me:
    The Savior of Humanity!

    Dan,
You are making assumptions based on the interdependency present in the automotive supply chains. Your assumptions may or may not have been proven true. Much like the liberal arguments about how much worse the economy would be without the stimulus.
Ford was working with Honda, Nissan, Toyota to put measures and agreements in place to keep the supply chain moving. The US government was informed to ensure the mutual support agreements didn’t violate and antitrust or other laws.
Chrysler was willing to work with the others but could provide little help or promises they would be around.
    GM however refused.

D Walters. I’ve rode with Dan. Don’t let the mileage on his “Frame” fool you. He is a hard man and quite capable of riding you into the dirt. I’m sure you were comfortable in your air conditioned car/truck as you lookie looed on bye. I hear the Kardasians made a tape that might keep you entertained for a minute or two. Or just turn on 1000′s ways to die, that’s always a hoot for rednecks.

  46. Cold n P | May 9, 2012 at 12:09 am

BTW if I remember right bontrager wheels adorned Dans’ MTB bike anyway. Not sure what he rides on the road. DT swiss 3.0 would be a good choice for the value.

  47. Dan Casey | May 9, 2012 at 12:27 am

    Cold,

I have a 2001 Carrerra Giove RC road bike. It’s a (mostly) carbon + aluminum frame, carbon fork & bars, full Campy 10-speed with a honey brown Brooks pro saddle. The wheels are custom-built 36-spoke, Mavic rim on the front, Velocity rim (which is much better than Mavic IMHO) on the back. Ron Glowcyznski built them.

I bought this sweet ride on eBay in November 2002 for a song. I was the only bidder! It’s an awesome bike.

  48. Cold n P | May 9, 2012 at 12:40 am

Very nice. I’m riding a Specilized Roubiax Carbon Ultegra, DT 3.0 Swiss wheels right off the shelf. Sweet. I would like the gear ration to be a bit better than the 28-34 for climbing. My 51 year old frame would like a closer ration. But moving your M-ass is better than sitting on it.

Thing about the North Carolina is liberals can’t pretend it’s some hick state. The state’s research triangle in unmatched by anything any other state has. Then on top of that it has one of the larger cities in the nation, and it’s got tourist destinations on both ends. Everybody wants to be North Carolina,

Everybody wants to be Virginia in other ways, because of our enviable unemployment and tax rates, and our fiscally sound and socially moral state government.

  52. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 8:32 am

#44 My comment, racist troll suzie, was about religious fanatics banning civil unions for heteros, which the VAST majority of Americans support, not about gay marriage. Boy are you dumb.

Nest we need an amendment outlawing any marriage except those done in a Christian church. I bet you could get at least 25 percent of the zealots out there to vote for it.

  53. Henry | May 9, 2012 at 8:42 am

North Carolina has also passed multiple tax increases, has a Democrat governor and has been run by Democrats forever. It’s the state that sent Democrat VP candidate John Edwards to the Senate and has a current Democrat US senator.

Yet now they are a bunch of redneck yahoos because they voted for this:
Constitutional amendment to provide that marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State.

  54. Jane | May 9, 2012 at 8:43 am

And you’d best believe that the research triangle voted AGAINST the amendment, but was cancelled out by the rural parts of the state. Trust me. I used to live in the triangle, and it voted against Jesse Helms.

  55. Richard J Beason, CPA | May 9, 2012 at 8:44 am

Europe’s middle class is erupting because of austerity measures forcing them to bare all of the pain of a double recession. The middle east has erupted for the same reasons. The Tea Party’s message of austerity and low taxes for the wealthy is leading to the same eruptions in the US (Wall Street protesters and Wisconsin Gov recall). The austerity and unfair tax policies of the Tea Party are bad economics and bad policy that is leading to revolt by the middle class. America is waking up to the failed policies of the right wing fanatics.

  56. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 8:53 am

#51 Dolt suzie thinks that everybody who lives in the Research Triangle is a highly trained researcher and that everybody who works in the tourist industry has a college degree, including the hotel maids.

BTW, suzie, that highly successful non-hick state ranks 39th in median household income. Pretty weak.

  57. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 9:07 am

#53 I’m not sure how Henry can forget to mention that NC is also the state that sent mega bigot Jesse Helms to the Senate for many years. And has voted Repub in the presidential election for the past 40 years except Obama and Carter. And is generally considered a red state overall. I wonder why Henry skipped all that stuff?

  58. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 9:21 am

#54 Jane is absolutely right — the triangle area appears to have voted strongly against the amendment. For instance, Durham County was 70 percent opposed. That big city suzie cites as showing how non hick NC is? it voted 54 percent AGAINST the amendment. The Asheville area, also touted by suzie as showing how non hick the state is — voted against the amendment.

suzie, thanks for highlighting all those “non-hick” elements, all of which opposed the amendment.

In regard to yesterday’s vote in NC. My wife was talking to her 82 year old mama who was getting ready to vote. She had a dilemma, she had just gotten a call from her bishop (Catholic) telling her to vote for the amendment. She then got a call from Bill Clinton telling her to vote against it. Don’t know which way the gate swung, but I do know she voted her mind.

  62. Kristen | May 9, 2012 at 10:53 am

Honestly PP could you possibly make Jesus sound any more trivial? Unless I’m supposed to believe that He Who Sees Every Sparrow Fall is desperately interested in American professional sports and reality television while children in Darfur are being slaughtered.

I love the “Christians” who are so convinced Jebus shares all their personal convictions and bigotries, like he’s some vending machine into which you insert prayer to get the reply of your choice. Your version of Xianity has the maturity level of a 8 year old praying that Jesus keeps his mom from finding out he broke a window with his baseball. Because that’s how the Prince of Peace needs to spend his time. Well, that and trying to improve Tebow’s passing skills.

North Carolina Weighs Ban on Electricity, Soap

“If the Bible doesn’t mention something, it’s against the law, and the Bible makes no mention of either soap or electricity.”

But Mr. Pinckton is careful to emphasize that under the proposed law, there would be certain situations in which the use of electricity would be permitted: “You could still use electricity for things that are explicitly mandated by the Bible, like transvaginal ultrasounds.”

I’ve said it many times, as despicable as the anti-same sex marriage side is, we can take some solace. They are literally dying off. The approval ratings have swung big time in the last few years, and as these relics kick it, the tipping point gets closer and closer.

And great job North Carolina. History will end up looking at you the same way we look at the fine folks with the dogs and fire hoses in the 60s.

The consistently ignorant poster in #51 said of North Carolina: “The state’s research triangle in unmatched by anything any other state has. Then on top of that it has one of the larger cities in the nation, and it’s got tourist destinations on both ends.”

    I love N.C., but:
Charlotte, the state’s largest city, is only the 17th largest in the U.S., and is heavily dependent on one industry. Whether speaking of the Research Triangle Park or the greater Triangle, either is matched by the Rte. 128 corridor in Massachusetts, the Silicon Hills of Austin, and is exceeded by the Santa Clara Valley of California, with the New York/Westchester and the D.C./northern Virginia regions also able to match the RTP’s tech concentration.

Given the state’s oblong shape, it was hilariously stupid of the poster to refer to “both ends” of the state. But that phrase does aptly describe the sources of the poster’s ignorant babble.

Gdad just said the liberals in the golden triangle are “pretty weak” in terms of household income. LOL.

    Jason@2:43

Or tries to play a game stoned on meth or gets caught in his hotel room with a hooker smoking crack?

  77. dave | May 9, 2012 at 8:37 pm

    Henry@10:24

The operative phrase there is “used to be”. Just like the unemployment rate under Bush “used to be 4%” before it was 7.9% and climbing rapidly.
Still stuck in the past “glory” days aren’t you bud”?

  78. Suzie | May 9, 2012 at 8:59 pm

#60 BTW, Henry, dude, it was suzie who was calling the folks who don’t live in the Research Triangle or that big old city hicks.

“Show me the post where I said that, lying troll Gdad.”

    lol

  79. John Wilburn | May 9, 2012 at 9:06 pm

“I love the “Christians” who are so convinced Jebus shares all their personal convictions and bigotries, like he’s some vending machine into which you insert prayer to get the reply of your choice.”

LOL. Oh, I like this analogy. Kristen and I disagree on guns about as much as two people can, but seem to find a lot of common ground when describing hypocritical Jesus freaks. I really appreciate her one-liners.

  80. John Wilburn | May 9, 2012 at 9:29 pm

    Suzie:

“The funny part about that is imagining a lib trying to use a firearm.”

There are lots of liberals in my classes and believe me, there is zero difference in a beginner’s ability based on political beliefs. Come to one, watch them all shoot, and then try to tell me who the liberals are.

  81. John Wilburn | May 9, 2012 at 9:32 pm

    72.”Pistol Pete-
Will you celebrate Hamilton’s Christianity the next time he gets caught drunk with his hand up some chick’s skirt in a bar?”

That’s a big plus to NOT being religious. If that were me, I’d get a high five from my friends.
    .
    :)

  82. Hillary | May 9, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Why is it Gov McDonnell touts the low unemployment rate in VA as his success – shouldn’t President Obama get the praise…I know if unemployment figures were high McDonnell would blame President Obama – just like the other Republican governors in states like, Florida and South Carolina. But, hey, Franklin County’s jobless rate dropped to 6.1 percent in March from the February rate of 6.5 percent, according to the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). http://wwwthefranklinnewspost.com/index.cfm
So, way to go President Obama!

  83. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 10:06 pm

#75 Note that suzie has no reply at all to the exposure of her stupidity on this thread. Extremely weak.

  84. gdad | May 9, 2012 at 10:48 pm

#59 This good Christian guy, PP?

“Hamilton confirmed he suffered a slip in early 2009 after photos were released in August 2009. Sports blog Deadspin.com posted photos of Hamilton shirtless in a bar in Tempe, Arizona, with several women. According to reports, witnesses saw Hamilton drinking, heard him asking where he could obtain cocaine, and heard him reveal his plans to go to a strip club later that evening.”

“On February 2, 2012 it was reported that Hamilton had suffered a second slip with alcohol. He claims to have had 2 or 3 drinks before inviting his friend and teammate, Ian Kinsler, to talk at the bar.”

  85. Suzie | May 9, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Come to one, watch them all shoot, and then try to tell me who the liberals are.

That should be pretty simple. I’d go by the ones who don’t know which end to point outward.

“I have a 2001 Carrerra Giove RC road bike. Ron Glowcyznski built them.”

“Very nice. I’m riding a Specilized Roubiax Carbon Ultegra, DT 3.0 Swiss wheels right off the shelf. Sweet. “

I have a purple Schwinn I bought in 1996 from Cardinal Bicycle. I’ve ridden the hell out of it.

  87. John Wilburn | May 9, 2012 at 11:47 pm

    “This good Christian guy, PP?”

Hmmmm… Sharon N says Ron Paul is a Christian, but he advocates for legalizing drugs. A lot of “Christians” are okay with drinking, though other Chritians will argue that real “Chritians” don’t crink. So maybe Hamilton is a good Chritian guy… it all just depends who is making the call.

I liked Charles Barkley saying “I am not a role model.” That honesty has him better remembered and liked today than if he had been a hypocritical role model in the first place.

P.S. This new password system SUCKS! I vote to bring back CAPTCHA.

“I have a purple Schwinn I bought in 1996 from Cardinal Bicycle. I’ve ridden the hell out of it.”

    Cardinal sold Schwinns in ’96?

Impossible. But what have we come to expect?

  89. Art Hill | May 10, 2012 at 12:27 am

    John,

Pay no attention to Butch. He’s just trying to get someone to rise to the bait.

  90. Contrasuzie | May 10, 2012 at 12:32 am

This goes through my mind every time Screwzie talks about riding her bike:

Apparently not impossible. But that was when Schwinns were Schwinns. God love Walmart, but Schwinn isn’t the same bike now.

  92. Kristen | May 10, 2012 at 9:35 am

JohnWilburn, I think this new password system was given to us SPECIFICALLY TO FORCE US TO BEG FOR CAPTCHA back. It’s the NewCoke switcheroo.

I think all the crack Hamilton’s done has made him the homerun machine he is today.

  93. 89Hoo | May 10, 2012 at 9:45 am

87 – to be more accurate, Ron Paul calls for removing federal legislation against drug use, and advocates letting states handle the issue. That’s not the same thing as calling for out-and-out legalization, it’s adhering to the Constitution.

With regards to his faith, that does not and should not have any bearing on how he sees the role of government based on a charter that guarantees the free exercise of religion.
