BUSTED! ‘Bobby Thompson’ hits the end of road UPDATED again

Karl Rove and "Bobby Thompson" | Ohio Attorney General's Office

Update #5: Authorities found a suitcase with almost $1 million in cash and another suitcase full of different identity documents when they searched a storage locker linked to Thompson in Portland. They still don’t know who he is.

————————————–

Update #4: Much more about “Thompson’s” capture, his habits, and the room he was letting in Portland, in the Tampa Bay Times.

—————————————-

Update #3: “United States Marshal Pete Elliott for the Northern District of Ohio was contacted by former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray and asked for his assistance in locating “Thompson.” Note from Dan: This dovetails well with stuff the telephone tipster told me two weeks ago. That called identified ‘Thompson’ by what the tipster said was Thompson’s real name — the initials were K.W. We shall see if that turns out to be the case.

————————–

Update #2: In Portland, he was using the name Anderson Yazzie. He had lived until March 2011 in Boston where he was setting up another scam, in Rhode Island, the “Plymouth Rock Society of Christian Pilgrims.” One of the states in which marshals had tracked him was West Virginia (see the stuff from the tipster I talked to 2 weeks ago, below).

——————————

UPDATE #1: ‘Thompson’ was spotted in Portland, Ore., outside a bar, where officials found him walking with a cane and carrying a knapsack that had an undisclosed amount of money, according to Cleveland.com. He also had a bunch of fake ID with him.

Still no word on his actual identity. Booking photo from Oregon is below

——————————–

Update #2: In Portland, he was using the name Anderson Yazzie. He had lived until March 2011 in Boston where he was setting up another scam, in Rhode Island, the “Plymouth Rock Society of Christian Pilgrims.” One of the states in which marshals had tracked him was West Virginia (see the stuff from the tipster I talked to 2 weeks ago, below).

————————-

Little is known so far about the circumstances of the arrest of the fugitive known as “Bobby Thompson,” the false identity of the man who allegedly headed up the U.S. Navy Veterans Association scam.

He was nabbed at 10:30 p.m. Pacific time Monday night somewhere on the West Coast by the U.S. Marshals, based on leads they were working on.

The week before last I had a long conversation with an out-of-state caller who said Thompson was a farmer outside Lewisburg, W. Va. The caller gave me a name, pointed me to a picture on the Internet,  and told me the man was a Navy veteran. But the evidence seemed thin. The man in the photo did not appear to be a dead ringer for ‘Thompson.’ We shall soon see whether that tipster was right.

And it looks like, in the coming months, we will also learn more about the fascinating $55,500 in contributions that ‘Thompson’ made to Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli’s 2009 election campaign.

Cuccinelli got more than any of the scores of right-wing politicians in the country that Thompson handed out campaign money to. And the big money — a $50,000 check, came in August 2009 after Cuccinelli called Thompson and asked him for a donation.

You can bet that the feds are going to want to know all about that, as well as more about how ‘Thompson’ engineered a law through the Virginia General Assembly that would allow him to continue scamming Virginians.

In the comments below, tell us the questions that you would ask the alleged scammer, if you were a federal agent.

If there is a God in heaven, I hope this drags Cuccinelli down with him…

  2. Cold n P | May 1, 2012 at 12:01 pm

What did Cuccinilli know, and when did he know it?

  3. Original Greg | May 1, 2012 at 12:10 pm

My question is why was he still in the country? Like the Cooch, I guess he thought he was above the law!

  4. Suzie | May 1, 2012 at 1:10 pm

If there is a God in heaven, I hope this drags Cuccinelli down with him…

God is on Ken’s side, hon.

  5. Kristen | May 1, 2012 at 1:28 pm

I wondered if there might be some nervous folk in Richmond today.

  6. Sandi Saunders | May 1, 2012 at 1:30 pm

I do believe there is a God in Heaven, but I think there is a snowball’s chance in Hell that Cuccinelli goes down over this.

  7. gdad | May 1, 2012 at 1:55 pm

#4 suzie wants us to believe she’s been talking to god again.

  8. Original Greg | May 1, 2012 at 1:58 pm

If there was a God I’m pretty sure he’d have more important things to do than to worry about political pond scum like the Cooch.

  9. Steve C | May 1, 2012 at 2:51 pm

What in Gods name happened to his cheeks? They’re almost normal looking now.

  10. Kristen | May 1, 2012 at 2:56 pm

SteveC, I think he had the marbles removed.

  11. Suzie | May 1, 2012 at 3:10 pm

Where’s the photo of Bobby and Patsy Ticer?

Why, looking at Dan’s pictures, you’d never guess it was a Democrat legisllator who wrote the law that enabled this whole mess (and whom Thompson gave a nice fat check to show his appreciation)?

  12. Lynda K | May 1, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Suzie writes, “God is on Ken’s side, hon.”

Really? Since when does God take political sides? And if he did, do you think he would side with the group of people who are the antithesis of everything he has taught us is good and decent?

  13. Donut Miser | May 1, 2012 at 4:50 pm

A commenter wrote, “God is on Ken’s side, hon.”

If this was the case, why didn’t God say to Mr. Cuccinelli, “My child, don’t accept that $50,000.00 check…”?

  14. dave | May 1, 2012 at 4:55 pm

Much sweating and wringing of hands going on today in the office of the Attorney General, who truly hoped that “Bobby Thompson” had disappeared somewhere into the wilds of Borneo or onto some deserted and unknown
island in the Pacific.I’m sure the Cooch has a strategy all mapped out for this event. It will be deny, deny, deny, deny and stonewall. stonewall, stonewall, stonewall. And I am sure some records and emails will conveniently disappear and then their disappearance will be blamed on some underling, who just misunderstood his instructions from the boss, or better yet acted entirely on his own. And I’m sure there will be no “civil investigate demands” for this information being issued by the AG’s office. Maybe the Democrats should insist on a special prosecutor a/la Hen Starr to come in and look into every corner of the C ooch’s life
and then charge him with obstruction of justice and perjury for not admitting to beating his wife or having sex before marriage.

  15. Debbie | May 1, 2012 at 5:33 pm

Kristen, are you saying he’s lost his marbles? :-)

  16. Contrasuzie | May 1, 2012 at 5:44 pm

    “Kristen says:

SteveC, I think he had the marbles removed.

    Posted on May 1st, 2012″

Kristen, I don’t think it was marbles. I think it was Cooch’s ‘nads.

I’d ask him how in the first picture above with Carl Rove he got his shaddow on the wall behind Rove without getting his shaddow on Rove’s left shoulder. Magic!!!!!!!

  18. Dan Casey | May 1, 2012 at 7:33 pm

Ticer got $1,000, and she also got suckered into sponsoring that law.

    Cuccinelli got $55,500
    McDonnell got $5,000
    Bill Howell got $2,000
    Chris Jones got $2,000
A subcommitte chair of Jones committee got $2,000.
All members of the GOP leadership in the General Assembly. Amazingly targeted contributions. Somebody advised the Navy Vets on whose palms to grease and why.

And all that’s going to come out now. It will be embarrassing. All of those lawmakers have to admit to stupidity or corruption. Either ways it’s bad.

  24. Suzie | May 1, 2012 at 10:45 pm

God sides with Ken because Ken is a good man. God’s favor does bleed over into political ideology since conservativism is Christlike, while liberalism excludes God.

God must have been on Obama’s side (as opposed to Palin’s) when he won the 2008 election.

God, also allowed Hitler to come to power, but no one can say God favored Hitler. Sometimes He gives us bad leaders and bad times that we have to overcome. That’s what’s happened in 2008.

@21. It is interesting that both Rove and Bobby’s shaddows are cast to the left meaning the light source would be coming from the right. Bobby is standing in front of and to the left of Rove yet he is not casting a shaddow on Rove at all, but is on the wall behind him and Rove. Not physically possible. I just find it interesting.

Does it truly not even bother you to lie and be known as a liar Suzie? It appears to be pathological. Sad, just sad. I am pretty sure you have outdone yourself on the blasphemy and the dishonesty scale with this sack of BS: “conservativism is Christlike, while liberalism excludes God“. Now I know you are just a troll. Nothing more.

By the way, that’ll be a “nickle”, goat.

So basically Ticer did all the heavy lifting that allowed Thompson to operate the scam. Without her, this scam doesn’t happen. Not only is she a slimy crook or else a supreme dunderhead, she’s also not very shrewd. Going to prison for 1000 bucks just doesn’t seem that smart a tradeoff.

  38. Sandi Saunders | May 2, 2012 at 10:12 am

    Excellent link Ron, thanks!

No wonder the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said of his budget plans “a just framework for future budgets cannot rely on disproportionate cuts in essential services to poor persons” and also “the House-passed budget resolution fails to meet these moral criteria.”

“Ryan would achieve his…deficit reduction by focusing overwhelmingly on programs targeted to the poor (which account for about a fifth of the federal budget, but absorb 62 percent of Ryan’s cuts over the next decade)…Meanwhile, taxes on capital gains, dividends and interest would vanish.

What a real and true con man!

  39. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 10:20 am

Gee, None of Ron’s link’s work. I guess God doesn’t like trolls, either.

  40. gdad | May 2, 2012 at 10:22 am

#32 Let’s see suzie’s reply to her bishops.

“…the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has written an open letter to Congress protesting that “a just framework for future budgets cannot rely on disproportionate cuts in essential services to poor persons.” Shortly before the former altar boy {Ryan] made an appearance at Georgetown University, the bishops added that “the House-passed budget resolution fails to meet these moral criteria.”

I predict crickets or pure nonsense.

Speaking of getting Contrasuzie to change its avatar, I’ve done it twice, as Dan reminded us. I’ll bet I can do it again if I want. But right now, I’m content to have him imitating my avatar. The sincerest form of flattery and all.

Gosh,, that wasn’t the topic on this thread. And of course I answered on the other thread. Speaking of trying to change the subject.

Now that that’s cleared up, suzie can tell us what she has to say to her bishops who think that suzie’s position on the budget and on services to the poor is all wrong.

    Crickets.

  65. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 1:46 pm

She made a typo (a bunch of times) in her email address. I was just yanking her chain.

I didn’t make a typo. Nobody retypes their email address every post unless they’re morons. On second thought, maybe the leftwingers do that. (Note to self: Suggest to the MENSA people to put that one on their questionnaire). I suspect Dan altered my avatar so he could make his silly comment to help Contradad out.

It just seems Dan thinks leftwingers need a special little boost whenever they try to tangle with Suzie.

  66. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 1:49 pm

48 LOL. That’s the third time I’ve goaded Contra into changing his avatar. This is TOO funny.

Is there ANY doubt who calls the shots here?

  67. Say What? | May 2, 2012 at 2:55 pm

I think Suzie should be ashamed for either (1) calling the apostle Paul a liar or (2) ignoring his writings.

In Romans 13 Paul wrote, “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished… The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good.”

Paul further states, “Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do.”

He doesn’t say anything about whether there’s a litmus test for respect based on whether the Republicans or Democrats are in charge! Verse 1 clearly indicates that God approved of President Obama, does it not?

  68. Contrasuzie | May 2, 2012 at 3:00 pm
