Zach and I are out of town at a supersecret conclave plotting the end of conservatism, and doing some mountain biking.

This is the kind of thing that happens when you are named America’s top columnist, sigh.

Anyway, I may be able to approve comments on my smart phone. Then again, I may not be able to. In either event, post away! We shall get to the moderating eventually.

And stay tuned for the Post of the Day! from Sandi.

Schwarzenegger: GOP, take down that small tent

California’s Republican Party used to work toward solutions. Now it’s an exclusive club where members’ ideological cards must be checked at the door.

    SNIP

…. Its new and narrow litmus test for party membership doesn’t allow compromise.

I bumped up against that rigidity many times as governor. …. But I had taken an oath to serve the people, not my party.

    SNIP

We need to remind the Republicans who want to enforce ideological purity that if they succeed, they will undo Reagan’s work to create an inclusive party that could fit many different views.

    SNIP

It’s time to stop thinking of the Republican Party as an exclusive club where your ideological card is checked at the door, and start thinking about how we can attract more solution-based leaders like Nathan Fletcher and Anthony Adams.

Fletcher recognized that he was a walking anachronism in a Republican Party that has morphed from traditional conservatism to an extreme radicalism. This modern version of the GOP brooks no compromise with Democrats or moderate members of its own party who dare to disagree with its radical agenda.

Republican Presidents Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon would have been denounced as pawns of socialism if they ran today.

The republic will not be stable until the current-day Republican Party is soundly trounced in November.

Lake Arrowhead, CA (PRWEB) April 12, 2012

Conservative businessman and Tea Party supporter Phil Liberatore kicked off his campaign to represent the newly created 8th district in Congress by handing his primary opponent, Anthony Adams, a teabag during a recent debate and thanking him for his unwitting role in creating the Tea Party movement in California. Adams was one of a handful of GOP state representatives who switched positions and agreed to tax hikes after pledging not to do so, fueling voter outrage and cries that citizens of the state were “Taxed Enough Already.”

The question is, Will the real Republicans stand up? Or they just stay home if the candidates are not Real Republicans — vote with their feet, as the saying goes?

Nice picture Dan. But nobody knew Mitt Romney was in town. How did he keep the secret. Must have had a top secret meeting with Greg Aldridge,
Tripp Godsey and Chip Tarbutton. And maybe they sneaked over Jonathan Falwell from Lynchburg.Of course Gov. Ultrasound was probably there too
following along in Romney’s shadow and whining Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me!

Very nice of Arnold. I guess he did open up his family tent to include his housekeeper, in keeping with the liberal ideals he came to adopt along the way.

I like Ann Romney, one half of the “We’re just regular people like you” couple coming out in her $1000 tee shirt to be interviewed on television. Maybe she made a concession by not wearing her $2000 tee shirt.

    They can’t even fake it.

#7 Saw the score this a.m., Michael. Wish I could have been there! Salem coming up again.

Yea we have swim team awards dinner at 530, will be there right after. Minor had a great game.

At least the Romneys earned their money. Unlike the goofy bastard John Kerry who married into his.

Who will ever forget Kerry’s photo op of eating lunch at Wendy’s while on the campaign? Then it came to light they had just finished a $500 catered gourmet lunch in the campaign bus.

#9 I saw the number of saves. Astounding, but also a little worrisome that the defense let Glass get off that many shots.

Funny how all those Red states are the least safe!

I thought conservatives owned all the guns and could, therefore, make all the bogeymen go away.

Doesn’t look as if that’s working out so well, huh?

Suzie thinks it’s wonderful to have money … as long as you’re a conservative! I’ll say it again, H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-T-E.

    Team still not 100%.

  15. Dave Hicks | May 6, 2012 at 5:19 pm

As this appears to be the latest open thread, I’ll post the following here:

Are States Required to Help the Federal Government’s “War on Terror”?

May the federal government “commandeer” state officers to enforce or implement federal law?

    See: http://tinyurl.com/87p8ubd

    The see: http://tinyurl.com/7kvha5c

FWIIW, I believe the answer is a resounding “NO.” But then again I am a strong federalist at heart.

    Your thoughts?

  16. Kristen | May 6, 2012 at 6:05 pm

I read that Ann Romney finds relief from her MS by spending time with her horses. I’m guessing that the Romneys ‘ idea of “poor or middle class” is people who can only afford one horse.

  17. gdad | May 6, 2012 at 7:47 pm

#14 I know at least one defenseman is gone for the year and I guess Will still isn’t 100 percent. Are there other injuries on defense, Michael?

  18. Kristen | May 6, 2012 at 9:04 pm

Anyone else see The Avengers this weekend?

No, hon. Kristen just criticized Ann Romney for saying she’s like the constituents. That’s when I reminded everyone of Kerry doing the same thing by pretending to eat lunch at Wendy’s like everyday folks. Then it turned out it was a charade. Kerry tried to fool people. That’s where the hypocrisy comes in.

Leave it to a lib like Kerry to get rich off a dead Republican guy’s fortune.

I don’t think Will played last night. Nichols Conte was put due to prom. Be interesting to see how they play tomorrow night

  21. gdad | May 6, 2012 at 11:12 pm

#20 Paper said Will had an assist.

  22. gdad | May 6, 2012 at 11:13 pm

#18 We did, Kristen. Loved it.

  23. Michael A. Howdyshell | May 7, 2012 at 6:59 am

Gdad, maybe he did. I did not have a roster and did not think he was going to play, but I did not see him on the side lines.

  24. gdad | May 7, 2012 at 1:50 pm

#23 Pretty good that they took Glass without Nick and either without Will or with only a small contribution from him.

They need Will for the playoffs, so I hope he’s working on rehabbing more than on playing right now.
