The capture of Bin Laden by Bush’s special forces unit might have helped 0bama if:

    1) he hadn’t cut funding for Seal Team 6
    2) he hadn’t tried to ban the very interrogation techniques that led to OBL’s capture
    3) he hadn’t promised to close Gitmo, where terrorists fessed up about OBL
4 he hadn’t tried to take all the credit for something he had nothing to do with.

But as it is, people recognize a fraud who poses as a military hero (Remember John Kerry?) and punish them at the polls for doing so.

  2. Dan Casey | May 2, 2012 at 11:40 am

Anyone notice when Suzie refers to Osama bin Laden she does it with a capital “O.” But when she refers to Obama she subs the “O” with a zero?

It’s obvious that she holds the murderous (and dead) terrorist mastermind who killed thousands of Americans in higher regard than she holds President Obama.

    Nice catch Dan!

Did you see poor ol Mitt stammering as he said he hooped Obama would not politicize the killing of Obama. LOL, the economy is improving, the gas prices are going down, low inflation, value of the dollar is stable, Europe is in better shape since they started listening to Bernanke and Obama’s team, Obama is working with the Chinese on N. Korea and Iran, the wars are ending; the GOP is struggling to find something new to complain about.

  7. Henry | May 2, 2012 at 1:19 pm

Gas prices going down? They were below $2 when Zero the Hero took office. Now they are at $3.50 a gallon. Over 8% unemployment and still nursing a trillion dollar deficit. I think Mittens will have an easy task of convincing America they are worse off under the Dogeater with the fake girlfriend.

  8. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 1:34 pm

It’s obvious that she holds the murderous terrorist mastermind who killed thousands of Americans in higher regard than she holds President Obama.

Wait a minute. Why are you talking about 0bama twice?

You forgot about the 3 million net jobs Captain Idiot Boy has lost since he entered office. Now THAT’S something to hang your hat on.

  10. Kristen | May 2, 2012 at 1:44 pm

    “fake girlfriend”?

The right is starting to decompensate in the face of defeat. It’s enjoyable to watch.

    Ballheimers indeed.

  11. Richard J Beason, CPA | May 2, 2012 at 2:10 pm

    7. Henry, if you are looking at gas prices when we were almost in a full depression, you have some real issues in reality to contend with. Gas prices are goingown now from where they were this spring after the spring change over by the refineries, the uproar with Iran, and the over speculation. You know the rise in gas prices that the GOP had tried to make a big issue of about not enough drilling.

Trillion dollar deficit. Obama and Boehner had a deal on the deficit but you Tea Partiers would have none of it. The deficit is on your hands.

Unemployment is dropping, the stock market is up, and Greece is no longer in default. Things are looking up.

Mitt has nothing to complain about except his Wall Street buddies now have to answer to regulation.

  12. pammala | May 2, 2012 at 2:28 pm

0bama IS a ZERO and so are those that vote for it.

  13. KF | May 2, 2012 at 2:31 pm

Well Henry lets see…. Economy took a nose dive in late 2008 that lowered the price of gas becuse oil hit it lowest price per barrel in years at that time. Yet even at $2 that was up from its lowest levels in Oct of 2008, and at 3.50 now that still lower then it’s peak 6 weeks ago. 8% unemployment ok fair, but if you take the time he has been in office, you know his real term not the one Mitt and co use, Obama has been a job creator. Still not sure how Job loses between October ’08 and January ’09 are on a man who was in office for 10 days, but then again I’m not looking for talking points. Tillions in debt again fair point, but let’s not under sell W and the GOP for TARP and the bank bailouts, 2 wars, tax cuts during wars that did nothing (Side noet we have over 20 years of evidance that shows supplyside trickle down dosent work). Obama has accomplished missions: Killing OBL, ending the wars in Iraq and Afganistain, and real international relations all that without a flight suit on a ship with a big banner. So yeah Little Mitty Kitty the flipest of floppers has a lot of convincing me becuse looking at his champaign I’m not sure he has convinced him self of his platform . Honestly do you guys get a free T shirt or something when you spout off Rush and Fox news talking points? I’m I better off then 4 years ago? Yes, Yes I am.

  14. Contrasuzie | May 2, 2012 at 2:41 pm

    Those names are hilarious!

  17. Henry | May 2, 2012 at 3:35 pm

“Honestly do you guys get a free T shirt or something when you spout off Rush and Fox news talking points?”

Do you get one when you mindlessly parrot Dan and the Roanoke Times Democrat talking points? The Democrats had Congress from Jan 2007 until they lost the house in 2011. That’s when the economy went south….like you said.

  18. gdad | May 2, 2012 at 4:25 pm

#17 Dan and the RT set Dem talking points? Wow, I had no idea they were so influential.

  19. Saintbridge | May 2, 2012 at 4:28 pm

Dan, you are going to have to institute an IQ level in order for folks to comment here. Clearly there are a couple who are too stupid to carry on an intelligent debate on the facts. Yes, facts, you know, things that actually exist in this universe? … you know who you are and you know what I mean.

  20. Kristen | May 2, 2012 at 4:34 pm

Didn’t the RT endorse a Republican for Mayor?

And I don’t parrot Dan…I suspect I’m far to the left of him.

  21. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Trillion dollar deficit. Obama and Boehner had a deal on the deficit but you Tea Partiers would have none of it. The deficit is on your hands.

The House passed the Tea Party bill. The Democrat Senate and 0bama rejected it. The deficit is on your hands.

  22. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 5:04 pm

Henry didn’t say the RT and Casey set Democrat talking points. They by-and-large follow them. The RT has gained some rationality by dropping Rad. But Dan C has taken up the slack.

For those who think Dan Casey will starting thinking independently about issues and stop doing what the DNC tells him, he won’t. Here’s why:

Dan is a guy who really really enjoys getting awards, and he’s not about to give that up by taking a rational position on issues in his column. Take the city meals tax. While the RTEB believes the city council should keep their promise, Dan doesn’t. Why not? Take a look at who else opposes the tax’s sunsetting; the Roanoke NAACP. Dan gets awards from the NAACP. He likes getting them. If he goes against their position, he may find himself left out next year.

And that goes for every issue. We all know liberal reporters give each other meaningless rewards. And we know they have nothing to do with creativity or writing skill, or journalistic acumen; They have to do with politics. We also know Dan really really prizes these awards. That’s why he brags about them in his blog all the time. But let’s say Dan starts thinking for himself, and writes that MMGW isn’t reallly settled, and that perhaps we shouldn’t spend gobs of money until it IS settled. Even if his piece is superbly researched and supremely well-written, do you think Dan is going to continue getting awards from other liberal reporters? Hell no. And Dan knows this. He wants those awards rolling in, he wants the trial lawyers to continue to fete him for a weekend at the Homestead, he wants his columns to be recognized.

And he knows the only way for those things to happen is to closely toe the far-leftwing line.

  23. Saintbridge | May 2, 2012 at 5:09 pm

    See what I mean?

  24. Dan Casey | May 2, 2012 at 5:34 pm

“Dan gets awards from the NAACP. He likes getting them. If he goes against their position, he may find himself left out next year.”

As with everything else you write, that’s 100 percent incorrect. I’ve never gotten an award from the NAACP. LOL

  25. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 5:40 pm

As with everything else you write, that’s 100 percent incorrect. I’ve never gotten an award from the NAACP. LOL

Dan failed to mention, he DID get an award from the SCLC. Guess he forgot.

  26. Dan Casey | May 2, 2012 at 5:56 pm

I didn’t forget about the award from the SCLC, which has taken no position on the meals tax.

The NAACP is a different organization. LOL. Your statement and reasoning, as always are 100 percent wrong. You just make stuff up.

  27. dave | May 2, 2012 at 6:29 pm

I haven’t been here all day. But the distinct odor of horse manure emanating from the posts of Suzie, Henry, and pammalala was almost overpowering when I opened this thread. Dan, I hope you have some pwerful deodorizer to share with all the bloggers to get rid of the smell.

  28. Bill Perdue | May 2, 2012 at 7:12 pm

Dan, I think you should have a thread called “Suzie’s World”. We could post things that she has said on this blog that describe her world view and things that she believes.

I liked the one the other week where she said she believes a homeless person’s vote shouldn’t count as much as her husband’s (the job creator) vote. Oh, and the one we’ve heard a lot about…an intelligence test to gain the right to vote.

Some other ones would be lefties don’t exercise, liberal women aren’t attractive, they are sluts, etc., etc.

Then the idea that Rush Limbaugh will be sitting at the right hand of the Father come judgement day (well maybe I embellished that a little but not much).

I bet that thread would rank as one of the most posted.

    Suzie’s World

    Richard, what are u smoking??

  31. KF | May 2, 2012 at 8:40 pm

    No I got a hat…..Thanks Dan

I love GOP revisionist history it. It’s like there wasn’t a Republican President in office at all from 1/20/2001 to 1/20/2009. Somehow it’s Obamas fault now as chief executive but not on Bush at all. Yet when W was in office it was the House Dems Becuse Apprently everything was fine until September 2008 (It wasn’t and every economist tells you this take 10 min to look) So who is at fault the house or the pres?

However the 2008 melt down was triggered by the housing market crash that was a direct result of a huge economic bubble in the Housing market, and had been warned about as early as 2005 (In fact many economist feel the bubble started leaking in 2005) In the early ’00 many regulations were relaxed, sub prime leading reached its peak, the Fed didn’t supervise underwriting as it could have, and in 04 the SEC suspended the net cap rule for the to big to fail crowd. Hell I give W credit he wanted oversite of Fannie and Feddy, but the GOP congress said no no no. The to big to fail guys started packging sub prime loans into investments and selling them off with out any kind of regulation. All that happened between 2000 and 2005. The first sign was home sales going flat and falling in 2006, so all of that was before a Dem congress.

Now if we are talking Deficit Bush came in with a surplus and went out with the highest ever, and that started in 2002. To show fair and balance Obama and the Dems added a lot to it, but some argue that with out the bailouts we would have went into a double dip or even full on depression. I for one dont know seems shakey to me. You can get this info from the CBO.

So again let me get this right. It was Obama and the Dems starting in 2006 that killed the economy?

“You forgot about the three million net jobs idiot boy has lost”

    Actual numbers
Jan 2009 141,714,000 Americans employed(U>s. Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Jan. 2012 141,637,000 Americans employed ( U.S. Bureau Labor Statistics)
net jobb gains February, March and April 2012 547,000 (Today’s Washington ost
Doing the simple math Americans employed April 2012 -142,184,000
Net gain=470,000 jobs equals 3 million net jobs lost? Delusion number 10,023

  33. Henry | May 2, 2012 at 9:10 pm

Poor old Dave still hasn’t found the unemployment numbers. Over 8%. Under Bush it was 4%.

  34. Dan Casey | May 2, 2012 at 9:34 pm

Sorry, folks. The first embed code was bad. This one should work.

  35. dave | May 2, 2012 at 9:37 pm

Right Henry. What was it the day Bush left office. How many jobs were lost in the firat six months of Obama’s term due to the Bush recession.
Your trouble is that you’ge been trying to live in 2006 for 6 years now. Maybe one day you’ll catch up. Or not.
Hint: 2,350,000 jobs disappeared in January, February, and March of 2009 and another 1,100,000 in April, May, June, and July which is when the Bush recession hit rock bottom.
Maybe you should have crawled out from under that rock you live under a little sooner. Then you could have kept up with reality.

  36. Art Hill | May 2, 2012 at 9:52 pm

#25 Stupid old suzie. NAACP. Blogger. Irony.

  38. KF | May 2, 2012 at 10:06 pm

Come on Dave the Internet is your friend… http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000

Bush left office in Jan ’09 with a 7.8% unemployment and that jumped up to almost 9% in Obamas first 100 days. Again we can argue how much Obama had to do with that V Bush, but there is no denying it peaked at 10% under this President. As You said Bush entered with ~4% in 2000 and nearly doubled it in his 8 years. Obama Entered with 7.8 peaked at 10 and is now at 8.2 and projected to fall back into the 7s before EOY. So if your telling me our President within 4 years of the worst economy we have seen in 70+ years got Unemployment back down to the rate at the Start of the recession yeah I’ll take that we can buld on that progress. Hell it to Regan his whole 2 terms to get it under 7. Clinton took 8 years to drop it from 7.5 to 4. Another fun fact Last time unemployment was this high 1984 it dropped from 9.6 to 7.3 before Regan was reelected. If its around 7.5 come November look forward to a second Term.

  39. Suzie | May 2, 2012 at 10:28 pm

And the lying cheating 0bama administration bastards have to present this illusion that unemployment is somehow dropping. How could that possibly be, when fewer people are employed???

But the Oprah watchers don’t care about pesky math. God, Hiimself could tell them, and they still wouldn’t believe it.

Somebody made a million. Latest GOP bumper sticker: “Just hold your nose and vote for the moron”

  43. Art Hill | May 3, 2012 at 2:04 am

Henry is dumb enough to believe the Republicans actually want to take control of this battered economy. They’re willing to bide their time over the next four years letting this president slowly nurse it back to health so they can rape it yet again. Why else would they alienate women, retirees, teachers, first-responders and nearly everyone else? Why would they run a starchy elitist Mormon with limousine elevators in his mansions and no support in the evangelical base? You think the Osama ad was bad? Wait until Axelrod targets “Mr. what-is-my-stance-today” and focuses on his unwavering support for RomneyCare. This is all a billion dollar Kabuki theater designed to fool voters into thinking they have a choice. Yeah, right…

  44. Suzie | May 3, 2012 at 7:15 am

This is all a billion dollar Kabuki theater designed to fool voters into thinking they have a choice. Yeah, right…

Apparently Gallup thinks Romney has more than a chance. They don’t understand it either. They’re doing everything they can to push Monkey Boy to the finish line –from using outsized Democrat samples –to asking loaded questions. Nothing’s working.

  47. Henry | May 3, 2012 at 8:35 am

It was at 4.6% when the Democrats took over Congress in 2007. I’m dumb enough to know that 4.6% is better than 9%.

  48. gdad | May 3, 2012 at 8:42 am

#43 Henry is also dumb enough to believe that government austerity at this moment would be a good thing for the economy.

Funny how Gallup is OK to quote when the Repub is up but it’s a biased liberal front when the Dem is ahead. And even when the Repub IS ahead, right wingers feel like they have to attach qualifiers for when the Dem moves back in front.

BTW, in the presidential election, the electoral college is what counts, and Romney has a lot of work to do there.

  53. Michael A. Howdyshell | May 3, 2012 at 10:37 am

Nope, the argument is consistent. Gallup is leftwing working for 0bama. When it shows a 13-point drop for the Republican in less than two weeks for no apparent reason, it raises questions of Gallup’s credibility. When it shows Romney ahead as it does now, you KNOW Romney is substantially ahead, because, again, Gallup does not like Romney to look good.

    Hope that clears it up.

Really? I thought it didn’t count. That’s what the kooks who claim Algore should have been president because “he won the popular vote” say.

  59. gdad | May 3, 2012 at 12:27 pm

#57 Obviously it did, since doofus Bush was crowned president.

Michael, we walked in and went straight to the bar…we were just there to meet some friends for a beer. I saw you with one son and was pretty sure it was you, but when we walked out you’d left already. Next time I’ll say hi faster!

The LAX team seems to have had a ton of injuries lately…a boy who’s a close friend of our family (he comes with us to the beach) blew out his ACL and MCL last week. I hope he can make it for next year.

  63. gdad | May 3, 2012 at 2:45 pm

#62 The defense is going to miss that fellow, Kristen. I always hate to hear about injuries like that. I think the soccer team has actually remained fairly healthy, except for a concussion and your occasional assorted ankle and leg stuff.

  64. Suzie | May 3, 2012 at 3:38 pm

Mr. Romney must win Ohio, Florida and Virginia
to win, I think he can.

Those are traditionally GOP states. I think he’ll win those and take a few like Pennsylvania and Michigan. Romney should win big. Maybe not as big as if Santorum were the nominee, but he could take 40 states if he takes on Idiot Boy with same gusto with which he attacked the good guys.

He needs to pound the hell out of 0bama on the decrease of net jobs, the war deaths (more than Bush’s first term) without a plan to win in Afghanistan, on 0bamacare, on the deficit, and on the many ethics lapses. However, if he listens to RINO advisers and plays patty-cake so as not to “offend” blacks, that would be a mistake.

  65. Suzie | May 3, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I think the soccer team has actually remained fairly healthy, except for a concussion and your occasional assorted ankle and leg stuff.

Yea the twins were out front. Injuries are really bad. Saturday will be interesting hope we can best glass and Will is healthy. The Rockbridge game was very physical. Big win.

  68. gdad | May 3, 2012 at 10:35 pm

Note how the right wingers on the blog have stopped discussing Obama’s gutsy leadership because they realize the vast majority of Americans know he deserves full credit. Their attempt to divert from his accomplishment failed horribly.

  69. Michael A. Howdyshell | May 3, 2012 at 10:51 pm

Sad about the knee injury. His Mom works at our school, very nice family. Be interesting to see how they play Saturday. We are going to the game.

  70. Dan Casey | May 3, 2012 at 11:07 pm

    Gdad,

The new meme from the Romney camp: Bin Laden’s death has actually strengethened Al Qaida (and implicitly, it’s Obama’s fault).

This is straight from the turn-a-strength-into-a-weakenss playbook, The problem for them is, everyone’s wise to that strategy now, and it’s going to backfire and make them look even sillier than they look now.

  71. Michael A. Howdyshell | May 3, 2012 at 11:11 pm

    Gdad
No President deserves full credit good or bad for what the military does, just as no President deserves full credit for what the economy does. I for one give President Obama a much deserved share of the credit for taking out OBL.

  72. Michael A. Howdyshell | May 3, 2012 at 11:12 pm

Florida and Ohio Dan, nothing else really matters.

  73. gdad | May 3, 2012 at 11:13 pm

this guy is mama grizzly on steroids.

ROFL. Good luck with that portrayal. Romney is as amiable as a 60s sitcom dad. He’s Ward Cleaver.

About this blog

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!

He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
