Cool tune and I almost for, Its was Pete Seeger’s birthday yesterday and he is 93 young.
Dan, great drive-time tune! Can I recommend one for next Friday by John Fogerty? I think the Obama campaign should get the rights to use this one:
Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they’re red, white, and blue
And when the band plays “Hail to the Chief”
They point the cannon right at you
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no senator’s son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, dont they help themselves
But when the tax man comes to the door,
Lord the house looks like a rummage sale
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no millionaire’s son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one
Some folks inherit star spangled eyes,
Ooh, they send you down to war
And when you ask them, “How
much should we give?”
They only answer “More! More! More!”
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no military son
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one
It ain’t me, it ain’t me
I ain’t no fortunate one
Bill Perdue, great suggestion.
Hey y’all, there’s still time to request John Fogerty for Floydfest 2013.
A friend of mine in Glenvar owned a high-end hi-fi repair business in Berkley in the 60s and 70s. One day he got a call from a musician who lived one town over.
“My amp is blown and my band has its biggest gig so far next weekend,” the guy said. “The only problem is, I have no money. Can I pay you later?”
“Bring it in,” my pal said. “I’ll take a look a it.” So the musician did, and my friend fixed the amp for him.
The band was Creedence, the musician was John Fogerty, and they’re still friends today.
I’ll second that one Bill P!
Good rockin’ tune Dan and Joe!
Love those lyrics Bill and that would be a great Obama campaign tune. Dan, I’m older than you and love, love rock and roll. But, I have seen too many old timers disappoint on stage including Leon Russell, Jackson Browne and, may he rest in peace, Levon Helm. I don’t mind them singing as long as they have an audience, that’s their right. But why must they be headliners at a place like Floyd Fest? Let the young folks have their day, both on the stage and in the audience. They are making some very good rock and roll these days.
Perfect tune for me today here in sunny Wales! Way to go Joe, you picked a perfect one! Ta!
#5 I hear you as to why have older head liners is not the only thing a festival might have. But in these days the kind of music at festivals is not just one kind of music. What Chris at Floyd fest did was put old time blues grass with African music, we called it afro-grass. And the hard work that his wife and the whole crew have sowed its seeds for a yearly crop of some damn fine music and a friendly place to bring your family.
But any venue has to warm up the seats and that means named acts. Dylan Lock is working hard over at the Jefferson Center and he is very aware of say our local acts and also the newer generation’s music. It’s very tricky, tricky thing to pull off a good show in these days and times, money is drying up everywhere.
Jackson Brown is still doing his thing and last year he came to the Great Hudson Revival. He was kind enough to do a private show in order to raise funds for the Clearwater, 50,000 was raised to help the Clearwater’s message keep going.
As to Levon Helms , he keep rocking till the end and why not? Hell, even my fiend Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers is still putting out some damn good stuff that could tear your heart out.
But not all shows are the best sometimes; the road can wear anyone down and make reality seem so strange.
Bill, can we agree to disagree? Saw both Levon and Browne 2 years ago and thought that they were good but mere shadows of their former selves.
