And gas prices keep dropping — thank You, Obama!
Just kidding about the headline, folks. It’s a jab at the RWers here who have so gleefully, loudly, viciously and unfairly blamed President Barack Obama for their rising fuel bills.
The president can do little to control the world oil markets, or refinery retools or temporary shutdowns, etc. etc. So we should not necessarily give him the credit.
But golly, at the rate gas prices are plummeting, who knows, they might be only $1.25 a gallon by Nov. 6 or so.
That date just happens to be Election Day.
The pic was sent in by the regular “Ron,” who notes that it was shot by his son in Christiansburg, and it reflects a 20-cent per gallon Kroger-shopper discount.

Hasn’t Ron sent in a few nice pictures lately? I think he deserves a book.
I thought the evil oil companies were responsible for gas prices.
Explain it to LWers like Gdad who gleefully point out that the highest gas prices occurred during the Bush administration, even though they were only there for a week and were down to $1.80 a gallon by the time he left office.
How is that unemployment rate coming Dano?
And since you didn’t have an open thread today, I will offer this satire for entertainment purposes only:
To the tune of the classic “Band on the run” by Sir Paul McCartney:
Stuck here with Obama, things are Fast and Furious
Claimed exec privilege, covers his butt again, liberal
Bama, you, liberal
Thinking of voting another way?
Tired of all this “transparency”
The private sector is “doing fine”
We don’t need more jobs do we?
Plan to vote another way!
Well, the man did run on transparency, and it’s a joke today
Executive privilege means there’s something to hide, from all the USA
Barack on the run, Barack’s on the run.
And Speaker John, and everyone, is asking prez for more.
But Barack’s on the run, Barack’s on the run. Barack on the run, yeah Barack on the run.
Blaming Bush just doesn’t fly, when you’ve served for 3.5
You can fool them once, ol’ Abe said, and Barack is gonna try!
Barack on the run, Barack’s on the run.
And Speaker John, and everyone, is asking prez for more.
But Barack’s on the run, Barack’s on the run. Barack on the run, yeah Barack on the run.
Unemployment is in the 8’s, and it is on the rise
The regime is crumbling, the wagons circled, and “help” Barack doth cry!
Barack on the run, Barack’s on the run.
And Speaker John, and everyone, is asking prez for more.
But Barack’s on the run, Barack’s on the run. Barack on the run, yeah Barack on the run
And the SC judge, who holds no grudge
Will rule on health care soon!
But Barack’s on the run, Barack’s on the run. Barack on the run, yeah Barack on the run.

Most people can’t name 0bama’s religion. I’ll bet nobody in here knows. It could be because he doesn’t have one.
The man is godless. It shows through in the shady dishonest way he conducts himself. Now it turns out most of his autobiographies are almost complete lies, so says his biographer David Maranass.
http://www.gallup.com/poll/155315/Many-Americans-Cant-Name-Obamas-Religion.aspx
The way I see it, the ******* has cost me about $500 in gas cost this year. Lowering? Yes. Where they need to be? Not close! We’re in the process of being conditioned that the current price is acceptable. Ask restaurants, waitresses, and the everyday Joe about their food cost spiking, and staying that way. How are the seniors and disabled doing? Do you think seniors and disabled will be getting a COLA this year? NO. They missed 2 years straight after about 20 straight years of yearly increases. They had one last year, but again will probably miss it this year. So sit there with your smug look at me parked on Wiley Drive by the river look Dan. Folks are suffering under Obama, and this chump is getting voted out!
How’s that transparency working out? $2.79 isn’t $1.90 ………….
Did you hear that on the Rush show, BobH?
4 babies were KILLED on Peters Creek Rd today.
What if “H” did hear it on Rush. I don’t listen to Rush myself, but he’s smarter than you’ll ever be pinhead!
Band on the Run….the song that forever solved the mystery of whether Lennon or McCartney was the better songwriter.
I actually like “Band on the Run” a lot. It was far more interesting than a lot of the sugary pap McCartney has served up. But you’re right, Lennon was the better songwriter.
#3 Bob H, I gleefully point that out only after right-wing dolts try to stupidly blame today’s gas price on Obama. I don’t actually believe Bush was responsible for that price hike and I’ve said so before.
Care to try again?
#7 You think it’s ever going back to $1.90, Bob? If so, I’ve got a bridge… The oil companies and oil countries will cut production before that happens.
Nope, I don’t listen to Rush Limbaugh Dano.
I listen to Dr. David Jeremiah at 12:00 and Dr. Woodrow Kroll at 12:30. I do not listen to political talk radio.
I penned that one on my own.
So what happened to the transparency Dano? Why are you liberals circling the wagons? What national security is involved on this one? Did they distribute these guns thinking crimes would be committed with them which would help their liberal gun control agenda and it backfired on them when a border agent got killed?
Where is your outrage about this Dan?
Bob H sure is reading you a lot for somebody who doesn’t read you, Dan.
Gdad,
It is too bad you don’t comprehend what you read. I said I don’t read the COLUMN but about once a month.
And ask Dan, I don’t post very often either. If he checks the last half of May, there are like 0 posts. But don’t let something like reality get in the way of your perception gdad…..
But, the question is being ignored. Where is the outrage?
Lighten up on BobH, gdad. He’s posted only 696 comments here.
Thank you for your patronage, BobH.
@6 “The man is godless. It shows through in the shady dishonest way he conducts himself.”
You must have seen how the President kicked butt with the Latinos today. I know that must upset you a bit. Lo siento senora, pero El Presidente es el favorito en la comunidad del Latino.
Well, of course they were familiar with his religion when Sean Hannity were trying to convince the world that Obama held the same views of America as his pastor, Jeremiah Wright. It could also be that many Americans are confused because, for some reason, a certain sector of the population continues to label him as a Muslim.
This last assertion is born out in the very link you so generously (and apparently ignorantly) provide.
“Both Obama’s religion and his birthplace have been points of controversy in his public career. These data show that in terms of his religion, most Americans do not adhere to the belief that he is a Muslim. However, the fact that almost one in five Republicans do hold this belief suggests the potential for continuing controversy on this issue in the months ahead.”
It’s pretty easy to see why Americans would be confused when a large proportion of Americans refer to him as a Muslim. Still, he must be thankful that he hasn’t been labeled as Catholic and have to deal with that particular faith’s current pedophilia problem. I say current, but seems that every time the issue is resolved in one parish, it surfaces in another. It’s like a pedophile whack a mole game. The problems just keep popping up.
Personally, if the President had no religious affiliation, I would be fine with that. In fact I would prefer a purely rational and ethical and moral mind to one that could, conceivably take their faith so seriously that they begin to believe God is talking directly to them. In that regard, Sarah Palin or Pat Robertson come to mind. Scary stuff to think the nuclear key codes would be in the hands of the likes of people like that.
Ironically, the atheistic view is that the man continues to cater a bit too much to religion. Here’s a quote for PZ Myers, atheist bogey man who hosts the site Pharyngula:
http://freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2012/04/03/obama-is-a-secularist-just-like-hes-a-socialist/
“I’m an atheist fighting against religion. If it were me running for office, Romney could legitimately make that case. But Obama is openly Christian, he has expanded support for faith-based charities, he ends speeches with “god bless”, he attends prayer breakfast and praises faith. He is no ally of mine in this cause, even if he’s willing to acknowledge the existence of atheists now and then.”
So…gasoline is now what? TWICE as high as when 0bama took office? Yeah, he should campaign on that.
Gas $209.9 at Chamblissburg Supply in Bedford County on route 24.
#6 most ill-informed, twisting the “facts” to suit the right wing agenda.
Here is what Gallup found:
“Americans are indeed more likely to say Obama is a Christian — mostly a generic “Christian” or “Protestant” — than to say he identifies with any other religion. In addition to those who name a specific religion or don’t offer a guess, 8% say he does not have a religious affiliation.”
“Americans are more likely to know Mitt Romney’s religion than Obama’s religion, with most Americans correctly saying Romney is a Mormon and a smaller 33% saying they don’t know.”
http://www.gallup.com/poll/155315/Many-Americans-Cant-Name-Obamas-Religion.aspx?ref=more
and of course the dumb-ing down of the republican party by faux news, limbaugh et al produces this…
“Republicans are less likely than Democrats to say what Obama’s faith is and are more likely to say Obama is a Muslim. It is unclear whether the 18% of Republicans who say Obama is a Muslim do so because they truly believe this is his religion, or because it is a politically charged idea.” http://www.gallup.com/poll/155315/Many-Americans-Cant-Name-Obamas-Religion.aspx?ref=more
Since when is it a “bad” thing for the President of the USA not to
involve his own religion in politics? Isn’t it suppose to be about that separation thingy in the Constitution?
Well, of course they were familiar with his religion when Sean Hannity were trying to convince the world that Obama held the same views of America as his pastor, Jeremiah Wright.
Yeah, how preposterous to assume 0bama has the same views as Wright. Even though he was in his congregation for 20 years, even though he said Wright was like a brother to him.
“Where is your outrage”

Thanks 13 Suns! I’ve just been lucky to hold the phone camera steady in recent days. The photo today came from my son who I’m sure took it with his cell phone.
I have a couple of books I’m going to ship to Dan to add to his list. I already have a pretty extensive library and most of my book purchases these days are electronic.
Hope you are having a great summer.
#17 You’re such an easy and pitiful target, Bob H. And I see you’re rejoining the tinfoil hat brigade.
What are you babbling about Shrillary. “God Damn America” sums it up pretty nicely. Yes, I know the jr senator who hardly ever voted/community organizer with no experience has thrown Jeremiah under the bus ( It took him about 6 months to do so), but you don’t see Romney’s preacher using such language. Bottom line, Romney is a man of character and integrity. As much as a politician can be.

It’s even worse than you think! I was trying to give away a book that given to Dan by a publishing company or author who was trying to solicit a review in order to sell the book! Shame, shame on me.
I see Bob continues the middle school humor approach via his comment at 10:54. Dan, perhaps you need an age filter to participate in the blog.
The reality is Bob, I’m guessing you are smart enough to come up with better comments. Why don’t you try??
McCartney had his moments. “Maybe I’m Amazed” was sheer genius.
Yeah but then there was ” “Listen to What the Man Said” and “Silly Love Songs”. The man specializes in stupid lyrics.
So Shrillary, I still haven’t heard you tell us 0bama’s denomination. “Christian” doesn’t cut it, even if he were Christian.
Bottom line, Romney is a man of character and integrity. As much as a politician can be.
That’s exactly right. Romney is a thoroughly decent man. A great family man, a successful and honest businessman, a great father. He has a real resume. The other guy doesn’t. Now it’s turning out a whole lot of 0bama’s autobiography consists of lies. As Tom Brokaw and Charlie Rose agreed after the election “Nobody really knows who he is or what he believes” (It was YOUR job to find out, gentlemen!)
The media completely failed in its job to vet the worst president in American history in 2008. That’s a monument of shame the MSM will have to live with.
“Romney is a man of character and integrity”. Funny how the right’s evaluation of the man has changed since they realized they’re stuck with him. What happened to the earlier evaluations such as: “Anything he does, there’s an automatic assumption that it’s the synthetic product of calculation. There’s something lacking at the core.” Rich Lowry, editor National Review. “Romney is not a conservative … He comes across as the prototypical rich Republican.” Rush Limbaugh. “Republicans will lose if Mitt Romney gets the nomination.” Ann Coulter.
RCP now has Obama ahead in Ohio, Florida, and Virginia. And leading nationally, and crushing the EC. I admire the optimism on the right, as unrealistic as it might be.
Ron, I want to spend the least time here as possible. I’m trying for my professional troll license. I’d rather bang my head against a wall than debate with most liberals. Then again, that would make you happy!!!!!
Ok, enough for today. PP Kills, Obama is indeed lying and is incompetent, Romney is a very decent man, but will not pass everybody’s litmus test, there will be a few clowns in Elmood Park wasting time….. a very few, cigarette butts are nasty. Music suggestion today is Beach Boys!
“39.Ron, I want to spend the least time here as possible.”
Bob, that’s something we can all get behind. You could start with not being here in the first place.
Kristen must be reading the Bloomberg which miraculously has Idiot Boy up 13 among likely voters despite the fact that Romney has opened up his largest lead in two months in other polls. Even the NYT is making fun of that poll.
0bama is not currently winning in any battleground state except Pennsylvania which, incredibly, is now a battleground state.
Bob,
As I think you know, my recommendation to you was about your third or fourth use of the “Pull my finger” statement. Our country allows you to think what you want about Pres. Obama & Gov. Romney. That’s part of it greatness.
SuzieQ, as I stated in my post, I got the stats off RCP, and if you knew SFA about political polling you’d know what that was.
Ron@6:23
Based on the total body of Bob’s comments and his fixation on having his finger pulled, I think you give him way too much credit for intelligence!

The creativity and sense of humor of that bunch knows no bounds!
Listening to faux “news” and Rush all the time will do that to you.
For want of a better place to post it:
I rarely agree with Bob McDonnell on anything. But I do agree in principle with his mandate to the UVA Board of Rectors over the dismissal of President Teresa Sullivan, with one caveat: If he ends up needing to replace them, he should not load them up with social conservatives and
ideologues who would bow down to Kenny the Cooch and the RW?Repub/Tea Party alliance. The appointments shoud be balanced and representative of the University Community. They do not need a bunch of wall street bankers,
top down executives, ideologues, and evangelicals on the board. He can leave those people for Jerry Falwell and his Liberty U. bunch.

Typical rightwanker. Can’t understand any exchange that doesn’t include dollar $ign$. 13 Suns was suggesting that Dan send Ron a book IN EXCHANGE for using the nice pics Ron sent to Dan. And Ron, being a decent, left-leaning guy pretty much says, ‘that’s okay, I already have too many books, and I really just thought Dan would like the pics’, whereas a greedy rightwanker would only send Dan the pics if Dan paid cash money for them.
Bob #29: Your ignorance is astounding. In truth, “a man of character and integrity” would not be a corporate raider, throwing people out of their jobs when you have the money and skill to keep them going. He CHOSE to close companies and fire workers AFTER taking all of the profit out of a company he could draw. That is NOT a “a man of character and integrity” in any realm. That is a ruthless businessman and he is also a worse “flip-flopper” than any politician in modern history. You are only fooling yourself.
As to his “religion”, he was a browbeating bully and even counseled women to give up their children. He is not worthy of the office of President of the United States!

Are you afraid of the truth?
If anyone has the common decency to actually read (or listen) to the entire “God Damn America” sermon from Rev. Wright, and see the point he made and the context it was delivered in, they too MIGHT have the sense to understand what he was saying, and it IS Biblical.
The government is not God.
God does not lie, governments lie.
God does not change, governments change.
God does not justify wrong, governments justify wrong.
It might be hard to take so much honesty, but Wright has a VERY valid point.
Luke 19:37-44
http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/21/the-full-story-behind-wright%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%9Cgod-damn-america%E2%80%9D-sermon/
Although, I beg to differ that God does not justify wrong. God justifies wrong in the OT over and over, and just because He says so. He justifies and does not condemn slavery. God does not change, but it is not true that the God in man’s Bible is the God who created the earth IMO. Rev. Wright has accepted man’s construct of God just as many of the right wingers have.
#35 most ill-informed:
I among many Americans, who could give a rat’s patootie what the President’s religion is. I never knew any President’s religion except JFK [that's because the Protestants made such a big deal about his answering to Rome!] – and of course Romney’s [because the Christians made such a big deal of his religion being a cult]. The discussion regarding one’s religion is basically for the small minded uninformed cadre who can think of only one or two issues to carp about… I never base my opinion of someone’s religion unless THEY make it an issue – then and only then would it be a factor, [and an incredibly small one at that]. Really, is that of any importance in the big picture or just a way to divide people?
#29 Bob H. Well you HAVE perfected your buffoon act, so go away, it is old and stale. Did you ever graduate from elementary school…no indication with juvenile remarks like:

Shortly before President Obama addressed a gathering of Latino officials — whose support he is actively seeking — guests at the Friday conference were told to hurry up and finish lunch. The reason? The president’s security wanted to make sure all sharp-edged utensils were cleared away.

LOSING IT !!!!!
You should cut and paste me more often, pammalla. You have never appeared closer to literate.
#53 pamadoodle – I was d-u-m-b-i-n-g down the Constitution so you could understand it. It was not written for the level of comprehension you demonstrate every time you post your “words of wisdom” [note sarcasm]…This may take a while, but try and read through to the end.
[In the Constitution] “… Article VI specifies that “NO RELIGIOUS TEST SHALL EVER BE REQUIRED AS A QUALIFICATION TO ANY OFFICE OR PUBLIC TRUST UNDER THE UNITED STATES.”
So which religion the President practices or doesn’t practice is not the majority of Americans’ concern. Do you get that? Less than half of all Americans are “very religious” – so why should that minority push their beliefs on the 60% who are not overly concerned with religion?
Many people, my self included, don’t “sin” and have to run to church every Sunday to confess. I try to be both a good human being and good citizen. I personally don’t need to have a minister/priest encourage me to do good – I just do!
However, if religion comforts or absolves others, not my business, and what the President does or does not do religiously is actually none of your business.
FACT:
Gallup classified 28 percent of Americans are moderately religious
Another 32 percent of Americans are nonreligious,
40 percent of Americans nationwide as very religious
http://www.golocalworcester.com/lifestyle/new-gallup-poll-massachusetts-ranks-4-in-least-religious-states/
and…
“The modern concept of a wholly secular government is sometimes credited to the writings of English philosopher John Locke, but the phrase “separation of church and state” in this context is generally traced to a January 1, 1802 letter by Thomas Jefferson, addressed to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, and published in a Massachusetts newspaper. Echoing the language of the founder of the first Baptist church in America, Roger Williams—who had written in 1644 of “[A] hedge or wall of separation between the garden of the church and the wilderness of the world”— Jefferson wrote, “I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church & State”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_of_church_and_state_in_the_United_States
Now run along, and may I suggest you sit down and read a book on the US Constitution? Maybe you won’t look quite so foolish next time…
Speaking of the Constitution, pammala, I have some really bad news for you. You know how you’re always saying that the Kenyan-in-chief is trying to take away your constitutional rights? Yeah, well, it turns out you were in fact right. President Obama declared today that only people with a High School education are allowed to use the internets, effective immediately. He also hired 12,000 additional I.R.S. agents to enforce this new provision. Looks like the do-do is really hitting the fan, just as you correctly predicted; I just drove through Vinton today and saw some of your kin-folk being frog marched out to waiting police cruisers by jack-booted thugs.
Anywho, if I was you I’d log off your PC immediately and start looking into that GED thing you’ve been mulling over for years. On the bright side, if you ever want to realize your dream of getting hired for that Wal-Mart greeter position you’ll need the G.E.D. look, I know that facing your worst fears (memorizing the multiplication table and figuring out how spell check works) is a truly terrifying personal prospect, but I speak for the majority of the board when I say that if you work really hard and apply yourself you might be able to accomplish this milestone before President Obama’s 2nd term ends in 2017.

Palin: US Law Should Be Based on the Bible
‘Our unalienable rights come from God.’
By Evann Gastaldo, Newser Staff
Posted May 7, 2010 7:58 AM CDT
Sarah Palin was on the O’Reilly Factor last night talking about the National Day of Prayer, but she went a bit further than her usual party line of calling America a Christian nation. “I think we should keep this clean, keep it simple, go back to what our founders and our founding documents meant,” she said. “They’re quite clear that we would create law based on the God of the Bible and the 10 commandments, it’s pretty simple.”

Which rights do you no longer have that you did have prior to President Obama taking office? Name just one.

Bopb@71
It’s thos pesky facts that keep getting in the way of your delusional rants. So let’s see: Economy was losing 750000 jobs per month when Obama took office. Job losses due to the Bush depression continued for the next twelve months but finally slowed down during the last four of those months. Beginning Jan. 2009 to the present, over 4.3 million new jobs created, all in the private sector. Automobile industry was on the brink of extinction. Vulture capitalist like Bain were hovering in the wings to pick up the pieces and ship the jobs overseas. Today GM and Chrysler are back. American auto manmufacturing is thriving. Over 2 million American jobs saved when you include ancillary industries and more than that when you gauge the jobs created by the spending power of auto industry employees. Stock market bottomed out with the DOW down under 6700 due to eight years of Republican mismanagement. Today the DOW was at 12,502.
American corporations are sitting on over two trillion of accumulated profits from the past three years. They, patriotically, are holding onto that money instead of reinvesting it in the American economy because the Republican dog and pony show has them convinced that after 2012 they will be able to go back to businessas usual with a continued concentration of all the wealth at the top if they’ll just let them have control again.
Unemployment rate, which topped out at just over 10% due to the Bush depression is now back down to 8.2% and gradually going down.
So yeah, you’re absolutely right Bob-o. The economy hasn’t improved one bit. As you and the wingnuts would have us believe—Obama’s just made it worse. In your dreams.
dave – babbling drivel.
Bob, we see the economy improving because we do not listen to liars, and look down hoping for dirt and BS we can post daily like you do. The facts do not lie and that is why you right wingers hate them so.
You endorse blaming and condemning women for their desperate choices so get off the high horse, you cannot claim it. What did Jesus tell the woman who sinned? How do YOU know what her every sin even was? Jesus did and forgave her anyway. You are no follower of Christ.
Sandi. I don’t drink or do drugs. I guess you do? Look real good at the latest economy numbers within the next 3 days. Fascinating how you can say the economy is improving, when it is not. I think you can even glean this info off of CNN. ………….. Jesus said you are forgiven. Go ….. and sin no more. He sure didn’t say go support Planned Parenthood!
Darling, I’m not perfect, and I get a little out of line when chatting with moonbats. Sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
