Ryan won the election last night. He is the next Ronald Reagan….only smarter and younger. Finally we have some one who can go toe to toe with Obama and expose him as the bafoon he is.

Well, I was wrong. It wasn’t Pat Robertson who steered Isaac away from the Republican Convention. It was this lady. But, she did announce it on Robertson’s TV show.

Jesten Peters, Florida Pastor, Credits Prayer Group For Sending Tropical Storm Isaac Away From The Republican National Convention

Too bad they didn’t include the other Gulf Coast states in their prayers.

“Ryan then noted that Obama, while campaigning for president, promised that a GM plant in Wisconsin would not shut down. “That plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And that’s how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight,” Ryan said.
Except Obama didn’t promise that. And the plant closed in December 2008 — while George W. Bush was president.”

“Ryan, for his part, slammed the president for not supporting a deficit commission report without mentioning that he himself had voted against it, helping to kill it.”

Fortunately for Ryan and co., they have a singularly undemanding audience. The sheeple aren’t interested in the truth.

“Jodie Layton, a convention goer from Utah watching the Ryan speech, said she was blown away by the vice presidential candidate. But she said she was surprised to hear that after his speech about taking responsibility, he’d pinned a Bush-era plant closing on Obama.

“It closed in December 2008?” she asked, making sure she heard a HuffPost reporter’s question right. After a long pause, she said, “It’s happening a lot on both sides. It’s to be expected.”

Bwahahaha. “Blown away”. Your average GOP convention-attendee is probably
“blown away” by the icemaker in their fridge.

Wow, even some folks at Fox can’t stand the lying:

“On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.”

terps, LOL. You made my point for me.

And….Obama’s still leading. Ryan can’t win jack.

  8. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 11:13 am

I believe Terps, to a certain extent, is right about how Ryan’s convention speech last night pretty much decided the election.

The message it sent reinforced the one from the Romeny campaign adviser who earlier this week said they weren’t going to let facts get in the way of running their campaign. But that was just a campaign staffer. Ryan drove the point home with the falsehoods he uttered on national TV.

  9. Michael A Howdyshell | August 30, 2012 at 11:39 am

These are the facts they are undisputed.

The debt has grown under President Obama

The Federal Gocerment has grown under President Obama

The Affordiable Health Care Act was passed with less then50% of the people supporting it.

President Obama wants to raises taxes.

Say anything else these are the facts maybe Mr. Romney is not the complete solution I think he is cloers to my vision for America than President Obama.

  10. terps | August 30, 2012 at 11:45 am

    Dan
Your right. Obama has set a great example for truth telling. We are fortunate to have learned from Obama that Romney is a felon who murdered that woman in Indiana. These are facts that cannot be disputed. When will the GOP learn to live up to the Obama standards?

  11. Frank | August 30, 2012 at 11:48 am

kristen…i agree with the fact that the plant in question closed before obama took office. the fact which you ignore is that BEFORE the November election, the bamster promised the folks in that part of Wisconsin that “that” factory would not close. It did close… That is the fact you seem to ignore. I wonder how many Wisconsin voters voted for the bamster due to his promise that those factory workers would not lose their jobs?

  12. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 11:52 am

Terps, it’s a lie that anyone, much less Obama himself, called Romney a felon or a liar. You know that. But you have to create that straw man just so you can knock it down.

The great thing about Ryan’s lies is, nobody has to create them. He told 5 or 6 whoppers on national TV last night. He made it obvious he doesn’t care about fact. Those lies are going to dog him for the rest of the campaign.

Honestly I can’t believe the Romney campaign didn’t vet that speech.

Regardless of when this place closed, it’s uh…closed….just like so many other businesses in this country. Obama had his chance to turn it around. This country is in so much debt something drastic has to be done to revive the economic power of the U.S. If Romney can’t get it done, he’ll be out in 4 years too. This blog is a joke, same people, same arguments. They think their side is right, meanwhile down in a spiral we go. I don’t pick a party, I just want the right guy. This country needs to toughen up and people need to try and succeed, we have become lazy, we need to be forced to work but we need a place to work. The current president did not get the economy on track to provide these jobs. Don’t throw numbers at me from both sides, just look around. I say next up, you got 4 years to show us something.

  16. gdad | August 30, 2012 at 11:59 am

#11 Explain how anybody can blame Obama for that. You can’t.

  17. matt | August 30, 2012 at 12:06 pm

    From ABC:

In February 2008, Obama told employees at the plant “if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years,” according to USA Today. The announcement to close the Janesville plant came in June of 2008, after then-candidate Obama spoke there, and the initial projected date for its closing was 2010, according to an AP article from the time.

The campaign also pointed to a statement released in 2008 by Obama’s campaign that said it would help “retool” plants like the one scheduled to shut down in Janesville. “I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America,” an Obama campaign statement from 2008 reads.

  18. Tayree | August 30, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I’m just going to throw this out there, but it’s been bothering me for some time. Consumers are protected from false advertising with regards to products like orange juice and pickup trucks. Why are we not protected from false advertising by politicians? They are selling themselves as the product. Americans are used to having confidence in the advertising they see on TV so I think that creates a tendency among some to believe all advertising without question, even false political ads. Certainly politicians and Super PACs are taking advantage of that.

Can you imagine the difference in tone if all political ads had to be truthful? Or at least have a disclaimer like, “This ad rated Pants on Fire by Politifact” or “This ad is endorsed by the XYZ campaign who acknowledges that the contents of this ad are entirely false.”

  27. Kristen | August 30, 2012 at 1:14 pm

So yes Obama said that if the government created conditions that would allow plants like in Janesville to stay open, they’d stay open. They didn’t make it.

That does not equate to Obama “promising” to keep it open. It closed 6 months before Obama even took office. If anyone wants to join with Lyin’ Ryan to make that Obama’s fault, knock yourselves out. Even Fox is laughing at Ryan, and that takes some doing.

Frank, if you read matt’s cut and paste, nothing in Obama’s words “promised” them anything particular about THAT particular plant. How could he make such a promise? It doesn’t make any sense, and matt’s words don’t reflect any promise to them.

  28. Sandi Saunders | August 30, 2012 at 1:24 pm

If this really was all Obama’s fault, if he really was as bad a failure as they say, there would be no need to lie, distort, make stuff up, or pretend. It is the TP/GOP that is showing desperation and not even in the ranks, Ryan proved it goes to the top. If Romney does the same, they are toast.

When even the FOX News employee calls you out…you are sinking.

I spoke to someone who is basically apolitical this morning and when I asked if she knew why Obama was so hated, she said she wondered that herself. There is no reason, no sound excuse for this vitriolic hatred, this level of dishonesty, this effort to mislead. We are still in crisis mode and these folks pretend all is normal, politics as usual and I hate to tell you, America is not buying what you are selling. They know what Obama walked into, they know jobs have been disappearing for well over a decade, they know the tax, judicial and educational system all cater to the wealth and power, they know that Romney/Ryan is going to do so as well, and on their backs. I think you have greatly misjudged America. It is patriotic to work hard for a better life and support your nation, it is not patriotic to cater to one sector, that is truly unAmerican!

  29. Sandi Saunders | August 30, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Dan, EXCELLENT shot! What a beautiful scene!! Thanks.

  30. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 1:26 pm

    So let’s have a recap:

During the 2008 campaign, Obama said he hoped if elected that he could keep plants like Janesville open. The plant closed BEFORE he took office, when he had no power to keep it open. After the election, his policies did indeed help other GM plants stay open, but those didn’t REOPEN Janesville’s. Now, rather hysterically, a guy running against Obama is blaming him for that. And even Fox News is calling him out on that whopper.

  31. steve nelson | August 30, 2012 at 1:27 pm

Folks….stop blaming Democrat President Barrack Hussein Obama.
He is a victim, he is black and had a Democrat Congress for 2 years. Democrat President Barrack Hussein Obama could not even get a vote on his budget from the Democrats..guess they hate black people too.
I has nothing to do with competence, ignorance and lack of ability.

Maybe the “hate” comes from Democrat President Barrack Hussein Obama calling his white grandmother “typical white woman”. A class guy!

Clint Eastwood…”make my Democrats day” tonight. This is getting fun..

Let the party start…da gig is up!

The are desperate and have no game left!

  34. Shrillary | August 30, 2012 at 1:35 pm

You know the republicans are having trouble with “truthiness” when even FoxNews.com calls out Ryan’s lies – they characterized his speech in 3 words: Dazzling, Deceiving and Distracting!

Paul Ryan’s speech in 3 words
    http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/08/30/paul-ryans-speech-in-three-words/

“On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.”

and that was just the first paragraph under “Deceiving”…

  35. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 1:35 pm

Sandi, they hate him because he’s a Democrat. That is all the justification they believe they need. They’d LOVE him if he was a Republican, because he mostly pushes legislation that was once backed by the GOP.

They also hate the fact that he does that — Clinton did it, too. It absolutely infuriates Republicans, who can’t get their ideas passed by themselves, when a Democrat manages to do that and then takes some of the credit for it. UNFAIR! UNFAIR! UNFAIR! They whine.

And besides that, most in the party HATE the same solutions they came up with 5, 10 or even 20 years ago. They were the perfect medicine when the GOP devised them. Now they’re unAmerican!

Soon, they’ll be pushing to undo the cap n trade they enacted under Bush I to stem acid rain.

Recap this: so how many auto dealerships were shut down when President Hurricane Obama blew his category 5 auto bailout through? Make sure you pick that apart.

Speaking of the President’s retooling, Chevy is stopping production of the Volt. WHAT but they sold so well.

  40. Conservative | August 30, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Speaking of Hollywood actors, how can you say it’s the best the GOP can do…especially when Obama has George Clooney hosting fundraisers for him. That swings both ways Dan.

  41. matt | August 30, 2012 at 1:46 pm

    Kristen,

Again, Obama told employees at the GM plant “if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.” Well, this statement certainly denotes a “promise” without using the actual word “promise.” “If our government is there to support you…” Well, WHO led the government (with full control) that Obama is talking about in the months immediately following this statement? That would be…Obama. Throw in “this plant will be here for another hundred years” and his implication is pretty clear.

“I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.” Well, Obama had his chance to “lead” this effort to “retool” such plants, but apparently he did not “lead” well enough to keep the Janesville plant open, or give it the ability to “re-open.” Again: “I will lead an effort” and “retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville” and “create good paying jobs in Wisconsin.” The word “promise” does not appear, but his intention and implication of such with these words is clear.

  42. Kristen | August 30, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Really, Conservative? I bet you’re happy to wait to see Obama debate Rmoney, which are the only debates that really matter. No one votes for a Vice President…I give you Sarah “I’m here to repeat my 3 facts that I’ve memorized so don’t ask me any other questions” Palin and her debate performances.

James Swingle, the question you ought to be asking is, how many MORE dealerships would have shut down WITHOUT the bailout? Which was enacted under Bush, anyway. The money came from TARP.

Dan-o, what are you talking about? Are you referring to Fox News LIBERAL ACTIVIST contributor Sally Kohn and her article regarding Ryan’s speech last night? I’ve seen that piece cited a few times on this thread. Why would I be upset with Fox News for having the “audacity” to actually give liberals a voice on their network/website? There is nothing wrong with providing both sides of a story and at least trying to be objective–you should try it sometime.

  60. Sandi Saunders | August 30, 2012 at 2:13 pm

If the debates were a free for all brawl like we have here, Ryan might indeed wipe the floor and Biden would not get a word in. That, however is not how debates work and Biden, despite being loose with a quip, has a mass of knowledge and he, unlike Ryan has worked with those of the opposing party. Don’t count your chickens, I’m just sayin’.

BTW, the speaker of the convention IMO was Gov. Susana Martinez, R-N.M. She should run for President in 2016. I am not kidding!

    http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/robert-schlesinger/2012/08/29/paul-ryan-repeats-auto-bailout-medicare-lies

“In his acceptance speech Wednesday night, as he denounced the usual politics of divisiveness, GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan repeated a hoary and deceiving tale about a shuttered factory in his home town of Janesville, Wisconsin. He also repeated now standard GOP Medicare half truths.”

Looks like it is getting “fashionable” to call a liar a LIAR…

When even “The New Republic” gets queasy with Ryan’s Lyin’,
things cannot go well for Paul Ryan.

“The Most Dishonest Convention Speech … Ever?”
    http://www.tnr.com/blog/plank/106730/ryan-most-dishonest-convention-speech-five-lies-gm-medicare-deficit-medicaid

“At least five times, Ryan misrepresented the facts. And while none of the statements were new, the context was. It’s one thing to hear them on a thirty-second television spot or even in a stump speech before a small crowd. It’s something else entirely to hear them in prime time address, as a vice presidential nominee is accepting his party’s nomination and speaking to the entire country.

Short synopsis of Ryan’s lying on the following subjects:
    1) About the GM plant in Janesville.
    2) About Medicare.
    3) About the credit rating downgrade.
    4) About the deficit.
    5) About protecting the weak.

    Um…WHAT?

Matt, you acknowledged in your 12:06 post that Obama’s statement was made in February 2008. So, tell us, who was in the White House “in the months immediately following” February 2008? As in, the 10 and a half months immediately following February 2008?

Exactly. And it may be what seals the ticket’s doom. People want to be able to trust the people they vote for. And this simply reeks of distrust.

I guess when you know you are about to loose you will do anything. NBC did that 1 or 2 hour special on mormonism. Where was the 2 hour special on Obama and Jeremiah Wright?

I found this quote from a News source:

hey gdad, i’ve been called a write winger before, so i’ll give your challenge a shot:

    1. february 13, 2008 – sen. obama said at a campaign event in Janesville “if your gov’ment is there to support you and give you assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition then this plant will be here for another 100 years”.

    2. June/2008 – GM announced Janesville plant will stop making trucks and SUVs at end of 2009.

    3. 10/2008 – bamster, as pres, said “i will lead … to retool plants like Janesville to produce….more energy efficient vehicles”. Sooo, where are the volts? but, i digress… sorry.

    4. 12/2008 – GM stopped making SUVs in Janesville plant (ahhh, we can all breath…).

    5. 4/2009 – GM shuts down the “trucks” component of the Janesville plant.

    6. 9/2011 – GM reiterates the Janesville status as “stand-by”. Well, the plant is still standing by.

    7. the bamster took office, and took over GM…and forgot about what he said in October 2008… “as pres, i will lead to retool plants like Janesville to produce more energy efficint vehicles…”.

….do you seriously think that a smart guy like Paul Ryan, who represents Janesville, lives in Janesville…has all his life…, would lie about the facts he presented about the Janesville GM plant, last night?

  92. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 3:24 pm

PAUL RYAN: “I still live on the same block where I grew up.”

It’s an interesting statement coming from the nominee of a party that claims to lionize the American virtues of “can do it” and “build it yourself.” Because it doesn’t show any spirit of adventure, any desire to see or understand world outside the safe cocoon of the block he grew up on.

Did he build that block by his ownself?

Paul Ryan couldn’t keep that Janesville plant open. He personally offered GM a $229M government bailout to keep it open and they said no way.

Now he and Romney, who wrote the essay “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,” are saying Obama didn’t do enough to keep it open. What putzes.

  100. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 3:39 pm

“#90 – What is that Dan? So now its wrong for someone to live in the same hometown they grew up in??? You are stretching now.”

Nothing wrong with that Pistol Pete. But that wasn’t what he said, anyway. He said he still lived on the SAME BLOCK on which he grew up.

There’s nothing wrong with that, either. It’s simply that it doesn’t strike me a great attribute for a guy who asking for my vote to be a heartbeat away from the leader of the free world.

Its’ a big world, after all. I’d prefer somebody who hasn’t stayed on the same block their entire life. At the least, they should have moved, oh, I dunno, maybe to the next street over.

When BHO joins Jimmy Carter as an ex-president, the country will be better for it.

In saying that I think we are going to agree to disagree over the next 60+days. I have interviewed and hired and number of professionals over my career, and let’s look at the facts of the people applying for the job as President. Granted President Bush did a horrible job and President Obama inherited a mess. He has had four years to help fix the problems and they have only gotten worse. Prior to being elected President he had no real life experience. Mr. Romney has real life experience at fixing problems. I hire Mitt Romney all day long over President Obama. As my earlier post said I think Mr. Romney has the best chance of helping get this country on the right track, and yes that includes lowering taxes for all, IMO.

  124. Suzie | August 30, 2012 at 4:39 pm

If we get 16 years from R-MONEY and Ryan

That would be super. America would be firmly back on top. The only problem is, 16 years is when we always revert back to liberal failure. Here’s why: the leftwing media will rewrite the 0bama years’ misery, then hammer Romney and Ryan by making up offenses and pretending things are bad when they’re great. If you doubt me, just look back to 2006. The economy was roaring, but the midterms became about “how evil Bush was” and gay Mark Foley and George Allen’s comment about nothing. Wouldn’t we LOVE to return to what we had in 2006?

Then add to that a new crop of voters in 16 years who were not educated about the 0bama years, who have been spoiled by the GOP-led prosperity. Combine that with the brainwashing they receive from the media, and voila. In 16 year we get another liberal disaster.

    Happens every 16 years: 2008, 1992, 1976, 1960

  136. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 5:09 pm

First, Carter wasn’t a liberal. He was a conservative Democrat. Second, Clinton wasn’t a liberal. He was a centrist who angered Republicans by stealing their ideas and grabbing the credit for them. By no stretch whatsoever can anyone honestly claim he was a disaster for the American economy.

Why was Kennedy “a disaster?” Because he got shot? That’s not his fault.

Finally, I know you guys don’t realize it, but Obama has not been “a disaster.” If anything, he helped avert THE disaster that was facing this nation in the wake of the 8 years of GWB.

  137. Kristen | August 30, 2012 at 5:13 pm

Yes JohnW, it’s “astute” if by any measure Clinton or JFK could be called “liberal disasters”. Clinton left this country in the best shape it’s been in decades. Republicans conveniently like to forget the Reagan/Bush mess he cleaned up, only to have all of his hard work demolished by another Bush.

VRWC, you forget the tone of this country when W left office. To quote Jon Stewart, he’d “broken the world”. In every single aspect of his presidency he left wreckage in his wake – domestically, economically, foreign policy, everything. In the middle of the GOP clusterfest, Obama continues to lead.

#125 Oops, Henry, Poltifact declared the ad pants on fire. And other Repubs are taking it even further, declaring that Obama “waived” the work requirement.

And guess who else has admitted it’s a lie — suzie’s hero, Herman Cain. He particularly admits that the word “gutted” is just a complete falsehood.

When you do the analysis, you come to the conclusion the investment bankers were the root cause of the 2008 recession. Their greed and lack of acknowledgement of risk sunk the economy. So who does the GOP put up for President? Of course, an investment banker!

Finally, I know you guys don’t realize it, but Obama has not been “a disaster.” If anything, he helped avert THE disaster that was facing this nation in the wake of the 8 years of GWB.

If that were true, the economy would be getting better; not steadily worse.

“Clint Eastwood…”make my Democrats day” tonight. This is getting fun.”

Hollywood actors are the best the GOP has to offer.

Dan…are you serious…is Democrat Barrack Hussein Obama the best the Democrats have to offer..

Who was the guest of honor at the State of the Union…MICHAEL MOORE..

You can not have it both ways…speaking of which..where was Moochele Obama last night..Dave Letterman.

Where does Democrat Barrack Hussein Obama hold all of his fund raisers..Hollywood..Manhattan…Sarah Jessica Parker’s house, Stanford Ct…forgot Oprah Winfrey..(heck she has no use for him..) or Ellen, Glamour Magazine and MY FAVE…

Entertainment Tonight…(this show has turned into a nightmare).

Do I need to add MSNBC…what a quality news organization they have become..(another Super Pac)

Bottom line Democrat Barrack Hussein ain’t got no game…just the color of his skin…pathetic!

Clint Eastwood…vs any others…He smoked out all of the crap and cleaned up the mess!!

The media is not leftwing, no matter what the ignorant grousers say. It never has been, and it’s especially stupid to suggest that it is now.

Yep. Most of the MSM is liberal. This is such common knowledge, no one disputes it anymore. In the tank for 0bama.

WOW, get home from work and already 100 posts… congrats.

    Shrill,
FOX news hires many “contributors” on both sides of the aisle.
Kohn is a liberal activist what else should one expect? She is hired to try to make things “fair and balanced” good for FOX and her speaking her opinion. I suppose that is why so many people watch that channel, to hear “both sides”. It think this is a good thing, and am glad that so many liberals now acknowledge FOX as a good source.

One can only wonder if Obama had used some of the “stimulus” money for these folks instead of giving it to his Solyndra donators this might not even be an issue. From what I have read here the company actually did not go out of business until 2009.

Frank 3:23… yikes facts… they are not really allowed here… (nice timeline)

Dan, re: “Hollywood actors are the best the GOP has to offer.“ did you giggle when you typed that?
Does he have less bona fides than (lets say) Eva Longoria, Sandra Fluke, Denise Juneau, Lilly Ledbetter etc… too funny…
Re: “Detroit bankrupt” isn’t that what happened in the end? If they would have done it sooner the taxpayer would have saved a lot of money (although the union bosses would have lost out).

Just goes to show “if you have nothing tear the others down”… “if you have the same address that you had 30 years ago you are unfit to be elected to high office”…
Is that all there is to offer?

Sorry, Gdud. You’re looking at week-old polls skewing the current average. The two are stastically tied.

    gdad,
The administration has no authority, under law section 407 (not that they care) to allow a weakening or waiver of work requirements. This was done specifically to ensure this type of activity did not occur.
I understand that this administration has consistently put itself “above” the law, but it is not.

I have stated before (even when I agreed with “politifact”) that they are a biased organization.

Study of the facts from various sides of the issue is your best resort. I suggest digging into the law if you want a true understanding.

Though I’m all for individual liberty, I personally don’t like the moral tone of Clinton or JFK and think they were awful role models that our society is still suffering from. Setting their F-grade on gun rigths aside, I don’t consider Clinton or JFK statesmen. They didn’t show the charcter in their personal lives that ought to be expected from a president. This is a personal conviction and isn’t necessarily debate-worthy, but is very important to me. If someone can’t honor their marriage, they don’t have my confidence they will honor their oath of office either. ‘Nuff said.

I agree Suzie, that IS a Post of the Day. You make conservatives look worse than the professional conservatives ever could. Keep up the good work. Everyone I talk to about this blog mentions your effect on it. Dan, do stop deleting her bile, it has an important role as well.

  163. Sandi Saunders | August 30, 2012 at 7:35 pm

Michael H, I take your point, but I think you sell both men short. Romney is certainly a good man, but so is Obama. A skill set needed in the commerce sector is not the same as the skill set needed in public service, especially at the level of President. I hope you realize that.

A CEO or majority owner is used to giving orders and having them followed, promptly. They can hire and fire at will. Barring financial difficulty, they are not required to compromise or even listen to people who might dare to disagree. They are charged with finding the maximum profit in the shortest amount of time and maintaining that. The President is charged with seeing to the overall, long term health and survival of an entire nation. It is truly and completely two different animals. Apples and Oranges. If you think someone who has been a CEO would make a good “worker”, you have obviously not been around when such a demotion happens.

Surely you know some CEO’s who made bad decisions? Some well educated MBA’s who bombed at an actual business? Some hard working but ill-fated businesses? It is not a panacea.

Until we can all lay down the hate and distortions, conversations here are fruitless and tiring. Why I keep trying is truly a case for the books.

  164. Kristen | August 30, 2012 at 7:45 pm

JiohnW, you honestly think society is suffering becuse Clinton and JFK got a lot of tail? I can think of 1001 other things that have had a worse effect on the mora, fibre of this country. I’d start with Watergate and Iran-Contra.

But you’re right these are personal convictions.

  166. mike O | August 30, 2012 at 8:10 pm

    Shrill,
Re: 6:33pm.. now that is a funny post…

Obama has been blaming Bush for the past 4 years for virtually everything negative in this country. Ryan, last night, said they would accept responsibility for their actions; kinda like Obama did with his “if I cant fix it in 4 years I will be a one term president”, “if we do this unemployment will be below 8%…etc…) commitments. (if he were a man of his word he should have not run again, right?). Is he not accountable for his own obligations? If not what entitles him to a pass?

Families who are taking their children, in their 20’s, back into their homes (I am one) ARE taking “personal responsibility” as the other option would be to put them on the “taxpayer dole”.
Do you realize how much taxpayer money my kids could “qualify” for if I suggested that they “game” the system, instead of doing the “right” thing by our family taking “responsibility”?
Maybe not? Maybe you believe that “gaming” the system is the right thing to do. However, as I have stated earlier, those who do such, take from those who are truly in need. You might believe that it is OK to steal from the needy, but I (and my family do not). If we need to live together for a few more years, to not take from the taxpayer dole, we will do so; and we will enjoy each others company.
I DO believe that is a part of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, and a responsibility we have to those who are in need, as we understand that taxpayer money is not unlimited, and should be used appropriately.

Further regarding the comments on conventions:
I often think you miss the big picture when you look for simple stabs at what you perceive to be your enemies.

It will be interesting if someone does an analysis on how many time the r’s used the word “democrat” or “Obama” during their convention vs the number of time the d’s use the word “republican” or “Romney”.

I hope someone does that, want to make a bet on what the numbers might be?

I am thinking that Romney/Ryan and a Republican Congress are going to be held more accountable than they used to be also. Someone answer me this. In 2008, wasn’t Obama’s mantra to unify the people? I’m not feeling a lot of unity here. It has been said, “The Essence of Influence Is Agreement”. Can someone propose a bulleted list of things that we can all agree on? Let’s try that approach for a change?

  178. Suzie | August 30, 2012 at 9:39 pm

No one has said it, because it is not true and bears no relationship to reality

Of course it’s true. There was no reason to change parties in 2006, but the Democrat hate machine manufactured ‘problems’ that weren’t there. Everything you say you disliked about Bush, 0bama has done worse. And the voters were too young, spoiled, inexperienced, and stupid to know the difference. Happens every 16 years.

  179. steve nelson | August 30, 2012 at 9:44 pm

    Dan….huh? You have Sandi’s number…is this MSNBC..

  180. Dan Casey | August 30, 2012 at 10:21 pm

    mike O,

Obama hasn’t been blaming Bush for 4 years. I don’t know where you’re getting that. I have been, though. The guy spent 8 years causing everything that is wrong with this country — you were right about that one. Hell, he deserves 4 more years of blame, if not prison.

Actually, allow me to take that back. Bush didn’t do it. He’s too dumb to have pulled it off. His crime was that he allowed himself to be used by Cheney and the neocons and the Wall Streeters, all of whom got very wealthy during those eight years. They had themselves an 8-year feeding frenzy. And damn they got rich.

Alas, the gravy train has come to an end for those crooks. It angers them greatly, because they feel entitled. So they have done everything in their power to undermine the president who has undermined them. They’ve got to get their guy back in there, so he can cut taxes on the rich, raise them on the poor, end social programs and force seniors into private insurance plans ($$$) rather then Medicare. Then the gravy train can begin again.

And along the way, they’ve fooled a lot of people — you’re merely one — into going along with them.

If those guys had never been in charge in the first place your grown children would be far better off.

The truth hurts, I know. But you’re better off with it.

Pentagon warns former SEAL about bin Laden book

From Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon Correspondent
updated 9:46 PM EDT, Thu August 30, 2012

Washington (CNN) — The Pentagon general counsel threatened legal action Thursday against a former Navy SEAL who wrote a revealing book about last year’s Osama bin Laden raid, warning him he has violated secrecy agreements and broken federal law.

In a letter addressed to “Mark Owen,” the pen name of book author Matt Bissonnette, General Counsel Jeh Charles Johnson wrote the Pentagon is considering pursuing “all remedies legally available” against the former SEAL and his publisher, Penguin Putnam.

“In the judgment of the Department of Defense, you are in material breach and violation of the nondisclosure agreements you signed. Further public dissemination of your book will aggravate your breach and violation of your agreements,” Johnson wrote.

Ryan failed to keep that Janesville plant open. GM told him to go pound sand after he dangled $229M in taxpayer bailouts to save the plant.

How ineffective can a congressman be, really? His constituents should have turned him out of office. It was probably the biggest FAIL by a congressman in the history of Wisconsin. He should feel ashamed.

Instead, he accepts the VP nomination from the GOP. And then he goes up on stage, live, with a national audience, and lies about GM and 4 or 5 other things.

These guys have absolutely no shame. Sadly, that’s a big part of the problem.

    …Wisconsin is going for Romney.

Romney leads in Reuters poll for the first time.

And this is the whacko poll that has tried to convince us Idiot Boy formerly had a 7-pt lead. Of course Reuters qualifies the two-point advantage as “a small lead” and a bounce. I’m sure they’re beside themselves this is happening.

So that’s two polls showing Romney with a first-time lead. Look for a bunch more in the next month, because Romney is finally allowed to start spending his huge fundraising advantage now that the convention has passed.

    http://news.yahoo.com/romney-takes-lead-over-obama-convention-bounce-reuters-203728302.html

Look for more more pinks and reds on the RCP map folks.

    Sharon N:

“I Thank God for Obama….he woke us up!!!!”

No he didn’t. Our masses of people here don’t wake up…. to anything. When they see a strange truck roll up in the driveway, they ignore it. When two guys get out and carry gas cans into their house, they don’t even ask. When the guys pour the gas all over the floor, they sit there and watch. When the guys light their cigarettes, they think, “hey, smoke outside”. When the guys flick the cigarettes on the floor and set their house on fire, they realize there’s a problem.

Just the fact that Obama is ahead right now should tell you that, Sharon.

    Akin Regains Lead Over McCaskill

    http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/breaking-akin-regains-lead-in-missouri-latest-polling-shows

In your face, liberal pukes. Just as I predicted, there was no issue here. This should provide a lesson for the squeamish Republican leadership who demands all Republican candidates who displease the MSM should step down.

Way to go, Todd, for sticking it out.

VRWC and suzie, could you two go cuddle up somewhere in private? Your neck nuzzling here on the blog gets a little embarrassing.

  197. gdad | August 31, 2012 at 8:48 am

#85 Just to make sure everybody caught that — when a right winger admits he’s posting from the same workplace as another right winger — maybe even from the business that suzie claims she and hubby own — there’s no outcry from her about them wasting their boss’ time. When a liberal does it, it’s a federal case and she threatens to call the employer.

Hey Steve C, did you look at your own link in it’s entirety? Right now Obama is up ONLY by 1.4 in Wisconsin. Remember, Obama won Wisconsin by almost 14 pts in 2008. Go and read all the polling data that RCP provides going back to December. Hmmm…what do you see there, Steven? Yep, what you see is that almost all Wisconsin polls had Obama up by double-digits: Obama +12, Obama +14, Obama +15 etc. Heck, an NBC/Marist poll conducted in late March had Obama up +17! Starting in April, you see the gradual chipping away by Romney on Obama’s lead. And now, that massive lead has been cut down to a whopping +1.4. If the current trend that has been established in Wisconsin over the last 5 months continues-Romney wins Wisconsin. (And let’s not forget Republican Tommy Thompson has +7 lead for the Senate in Wisc)

  206. gdad | August 31, 2012 at 10:28 am

#199 Nah, VRWC, it’s just that when you pop in to prop up suzie, your posts are always so full of “gee whiz” and sparkly-eyed reverence. And suzie’s return thank you notes are just so gushy and suddenly uncharacteristically polite (the same person who later tells a poster to “change your bag”). Gets me all emotional just thinking about those lovey-dovey exchanges.

And then you go and post unsubstantiated BS from a liar selling books talking about the secretary of state allegedly eating p***y. Real classy, there VRWC. Maybe you and suzie DO belong together.

  207. Dan Casey | August 31, 2012 at 10:31 am

There is some reason for concern, among people who favor Obama for re-election, with what matt writes. The race has seemed to be tightening as of late. You couple that with the huge money advantage Romney has heading into the fall election season, and it’s reason enough to be concerned.

On the other hand, we can take a bit of solace in Nate Silver’s 538blog. He came closer than any other prognosticator in predicting how the 2008 election would go. A year before the election, Nate was predicting Obama’s chances of re-election at 71.6 percent. That number has jumped around a lot since then. But today, his chances stand at 72.6 percent for re-election.

Thus, according to Silver’s complex model, the chances Obama will win have INCREASED in the past year, not fallen.

In the meantime, most of the voter suppression efforts aimed at the poor, the young, seniors and minorities are being rejected by federal courts. That’s very helpful to Obama, too, especially in the swing states.

#201 Kristen, I was just defending Bill and Hillary. Hilary wasn’t the Secretary of State when Bill told Gennifer about her success with the ladies. In your post #164 you wrote that two sitting presidents “got a lot of tail.” Can I ask why you are offended by what a governor’s wife did but not by what two sitting presidents did? Did you have an “Akin” moment?

  209. Frank | August 31, 2012 at 10:36 am

Steve C, thanks for the link to rcp. i think thats a good site, and visit there frequently.

Steve C, do you, or anyone you know, drive by looking in the rearview mirror? …i thought not. what i particularly like with the rcp format is that you can see trends…and according to what you linked for me, the trend is clearly going in Romney’s direction. like driving, i’m most interested in what’s ahead, rather than what’s past.

please mention the last Wisconsin state-wide office race which went democrat most recently. i recall (in Wisconsin matters, i like using the word “recall”…) that a repub won the last US Senate race, a repub won the last recall Govenor race, that a repub won the last LT. Gov. recall race, that a repub won the last Governor race, and that a repub won the last LT. Gov. race. should i also mention, dano’s unions got their collective (i like using that word, “collective” also…, along with the aforementioned “recall”) clock cleaned in those races…now, we throw in the Paul Ryan effect…certainly in his district, and certainly he’ll have some popularity as a favorite-son through-out the state.

don’t forget that Cheeseheads have seen the benefits of repub policies and management…and now have a brighter future to look forward to.

ya really think those folks are gonna say, “yeah boy, i really like pres obama’s efforts to soak the rich and provide free rubbers to all women who want them…he and good ol’ joe have MY vote again…”, rather than vote for a rich (really, who cares?) repub who will focus on jobs, and whose side-kick is a favorite son of my state?

I almost didn’t approve the comment by VRWC. But, he starred out some letters and it’s a fact the quote is in the book. On the other hand, even if Clinton said it, it doesn’t necessarily make it true (unless some RWers NOW want to insist that Clinton never lied to anyone).

Frankly I can understand a married man lying to his paramour that his wife swings the other way. It almost makes sense.

Sure you were “defending Bill and Hillary”, VRWC. Again, do you expect anyone to buy that sort of thing?

As for JFK and Clinton…what exactly is it that they have in common that sends the RWers over the edge? Other than their enduring popularity, which KILLS the right.

I’m not remotely offended by anything the Secretary of State may or may not have ever done in that manner…unlike the men of today’s GOP, I don’t feel it endlessly fascinating to speculate on what other people are doing with their peepees constantly. That’s y’all’s specialty.

LOL. We spend a half day on this yesterday, but some folks are slow on the uptake.

Kristen, hon, this RCP number is based on three polls, two of which skew the results and were conducted 8 and 9 days ago at the height of the MSM-manufactured ‘furor’. The one a couple of days ago shows them statistically tied. Now Akin has regained the lead.

  215. Suzie | August 31, 2012 at 11:29 am

Oh, no! RCP national polling on the verge of flipping for Romney. Funny I’m just not hearing much on this blog about 0bama’s sizable electoral advantage anymore. And no mention of the RCP map anymore.

  216. Suzie | August 31, 2012 at 11:35 am

Anyone catching the 0bama ad with Bubba taking credit for the 90s economy? The philanderer-in-chief never stops, does he?

We all remember how he had to be dragged kicking and sreaming to go along with the GOP Congress to control spending. Perhaps the impeached and disgraced ex-president can tell us how 0bama’s deficit-busting spending spree has anything in common with what happened in the late 90s.

I kid you not: one of the conservative regulars here just emailed me a “Letter from the company owner” on Michael A. Crowley PE.

It purports to be a letter that basically advises his workers that the re-election of Obama could force the closure of his company.

And the whole thing is a lie, a myth. Michael A. Crowley never wrote it. Instead it was a retooled version of a clever piece of RWer propaganda that first came out in 2008.

But who cares? WTF? Facts are schmacts. The person who passed it along agrees with it, even it’s false. So it’s true, in his mind.

    God help us all.

  219. Kristen | August 31, 2012 at 2:59 pm

Our “consevative regulars” have deteriorated into such a bunch of loons it’s tough to even guess who might have passed that along.

Pistol Pete – Did you watch the NBC Special on Mormonism? You should have – you would have thought Mitt paid them to do it.

As for Mormonism being a cult? Evangelicals have always taught this because the Mormons have attempted to add to the Bible (Not permitted under Revelations) as well as the fact that Joseph Smith used Masonic Rites after being kicked out of the lodge in coming up with Mormon Belief and then added his belief of keeping women subservient to men.

    Dan,

    Kristen,
Re: “Clinton” at least he knew when to “hold em and when to (compromise)”. The fact that he got away with having sex with interns (which would put me, and my company, in serious trouble) was a bit amazing. But he, admittedly, did a fair job.
However, to this day, I still do not understand how women would not call this an abuse of power. Just a comment not a question.

  225. Dan Casey | August 31, 2012 at 5:47 pm

    “Dan,
I think your train jumped the tracks @ 10:21pm, and I completely lost you @10:45am when you said “even if Clinton said it, it doesn’t necessarily make it true.”

mike O, we’re talking basic logic train here, and I’m not the one who’s jumped the tracks.

    1. Gennifer Flowers wrote that in her book.
    2. Either Bill Clinton said it or he didn’t (and Flowers was lying). Those are the only two possibilities.
    3. If Flowers lied it’s not true.
    4. If she was telling the truth and he said it, we still don’t know if the “facts” underlying his statement are true.
    5. That’s because Clinton could have been lying to Flowers.

Thus, even if he said that about Hillary, it doesn’t mean it’s true.

This is not rocket science. You ought to be able to grasp it now.

  226. dave | August 31, 2012 at 5:55 pm

So let’s see. The Romney bounce may not be all that great. Look at thie
    s according to RCP:

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/elections/

Gallup, which Suzie says hasn’t had Obama ahead for 14 straight days has Obama +1 as of Friday. And Rasmussen, which leans Republican has Romney up 1 as of Friday.. The race is close and anybody can cherry pick whichever poll they want to show who is ahead. Wait until Oct. 1 and then the polling trend will begin to tell a story. Until then, reading them is just a way to pass the time.

#221 Art, if R-MONEY and Ryan win in November, Roanoke should change it’s name from the “Star City” to “The Place Where the Republic was Saved.” July 13, could be an annual celebration in downtown Roanoke. If it is done right, we would attract huge crowds. We are the place where BHO told the truth about how he felt about business. It was his Waterloo in the 2012 election and this city should capitalize on it.

Actually, Waterloo might be outdated, when someone screws up in the future, it might be called their “Roanoke.” There is a lot that can be done with this, in fact we could invite BHO back next year on “7-13.” He might be busy doing “Jimmy Carter-like” work. He might be in Cuba or China making sure their elections are on the “up and up.” But, he could probably find time to come back to Roanoke and join the country in celebrating his defeat. BHO could make a speech like Clint Eastwood, instead of “Make my day”, with the crowd joining in, he could say “You didn’t build…”and the crowd could finish it for him. This is Roanoke’s big chance, hope we don’t let it slip away.

Jeesh, what a lame question. The very kind we have come to expect from the Suzester. Kerry had little money, and what his wife had wasn’t his. It’s kind of like asking why Warren Buffett’s money isn’t an issue critics of Romney are all excited about.

    “Sarah nearly saved the ticket”?

Yea kinda like an all male office when a
a goofy womean shows up and keeps flippin her skirt.
She smells of salmon , talks too much and has
a laugh like ripping off a tin roof.
She nearly won the ticket alright … they went out of business
and the men who thought she was a good idea still cant
get past nor understand their stupidity.

Frankly I can understand a married man lying to his paramour that his wife swings the other way. It almost makes sense.

The conservative mainstream doesn’t think this way. None of my friends operate this way. They work hard and love their spouses and families. Nor do they think the pro-abortionists are in any way pro-women. This is twisted depraved leftwing thinking.

I would just like to remind everybody of the cost of the 0bamacare ‘tax’ if it doesn’t get overturned. According to liberal Fact Check:

The minimum assessment will be $695 per person (but no more than $2,085 per family) in 2016, when fully phased in. The amount can be higher depending on income.

This is over $2000 for a middle class family making $30,000, folks. That’s a lot of money. Is that what you really want?

  249. Debbie | September 1, 2012 at 10:48 am

Sarah Palin is irrelevant. Her 15 minutes are up.

  250. dave | September 1, 2012 at 10:52 am

And how many years of tax returns did Kerry release?

  251. dave | September 1, 2012 at 10:57 am

    Suzie@7:41

Why, I bet a good customer like you couild even talk the Golden Carroll into providing a special discount that day for all of the folks in your Klatsch . And maybe even your own private chocolate fountain.

  252. Dan Casey | September 1, 2012 at 11:26 am

Sen. David Vitter is in the conservative mainstream and I guarantee you his thoughts run kinkier than lying to your girlfriend about you wife.

    Suzie@5:58 AM

Jeesh what a lame answer. Of course it was his. They were married, and he obviously had access to it.

I seem to recall the same argument being expressed over the necessity of Clarence Thomas recusing himself from the health care decision when his wife was being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars as a spokespereson and paid lobbyist for the insurance companies. Of course, that was no problem.

Was ACA the biggest tax increase in history? Not exactly. http://www.factcheck.org/2012/07/biggest-tax-increase-in-history/

hey dano, which war are you referring to…the one ol’ kerry voted for, before he voted against?

  256. VRWC | September 2, 2012 at 3:23 pm

#206 gdad, just noticed your post admonishing me about posting what Bill Clinton said about Hillary. You wrote, “And then you go and post unsubstantiated BS from a liar (Clinton) selling books talking about the secretary of state allegedly eating p***y. Real classy, there VRWC.”

gdad, I apologize, nobody should believe anything Bill Clinton says. Shocking that the Dems would stoop so low as to use BC in campaign commercials. I certainly hope that nobody takes anything seriously that “the liar” says next week in Charlotte. You’re right, the man has ZERO credibility.

  257. Dave Hicks | September 4, 2012 at 5:00 pm

“None of my friends operate this way.”

    How could one know that?

How could one actually know what all their friends did in their sex life and then know what they told or didn’t tell their paramours?

At a minimum, one need to be privy to the sex life of both members of the marriages of all their friends?
