Two thumbs up for the new moonshine movie ‘Lawless’
Zach and I went down to Rocky Mount tonight to catch the 7 p.m. show of the new moonshine movie I wrote about Sunday.
It’s about the Bondurant boys and their illegal whiskey operation during Prohibition. It’s based on the novel “The Wettest County in the World” by one of their descendants, Matt Bondurant.
It’s a very good movie. Very violent and quite bloody but very good. The story line isn’t quite as tight as I’d prefer, but it’s a good one and it holds your interest.
Definitely worth your money to see on the big screen.

We’re going to see it at the theater down the street from us, it opens there Friday.
I got a guy who’s gonna get me a bootleg copy on DVD.
I can’t wait, OJ, I just wish we had some of last Christmas’s stock left to have a round of cocktails before hand.
#2 Nice, Contra.
#1 OJ, are you bowling this year? We started this past Tuesday.
Question is, Dan, are you and Zach gonna see the new movie (an action thriller) about the bicycle messenger, I think it’s called Premium Run or something like that?
Warren,
It’s “Premium Rush,” and we might. It looks real interesting. Hope it’s better than Quicksilver though. That was a dud.
Dan:
“Hope it’s better than Quicksilver though.”
I saw that when it came out. I bet it inspired Premium Rush in some way.
We saw this tonight. Loved it!! Gory but fun, and the local aspect makes it so enjoyable.
We saw it this evening, and we absolutely loved it. We will definitely be buying the movie and soundtrack.
gdad, no, unfortunately. The two guys from my team last year couldn’t…both changed jobs, and one guy just got married and his wife is now expecting.
Plus, I severely messed up my right wrist during my company’s golf tournament on a tee shot, number 11 at Auburn Hills. That was in July, and it still hurts. And, my pinky finger now has an annoying habit of popping out of joint several times a day.
I haven’t been able to swing a golf club pain-free since then, and gripping a bowling ball is equally as difficult still. It’s incredibly annoying. Digging holes to plant 2 trees this week only helped make it worse.
#2 Nice, Contra.
Let me try that. “Nice, Suzie”.
@Kristen…
Did they make many references as to local
places etc?
I have yet to see it..
I did read the book..and developed (some)
association with the writer..although brief.
Reason was I did actually know (when I was 11 or 12 years old)
His great uncle..the main character “Forest” in the book.
joe, they didn’t mention Roanoke, but Burnt Chimney got a lot of play. Mostly it shows downtown Rocky Mount, or their recreation of it. I read it was filmed in GA.
I haven’t read the book yet (want to), but I did read the author lives in Texas. I’d like to read both his book and the other one by Keister. Maybe a trip to B&N today.
Kristen,,
It is a very good book..
I havent met the writer but
have talked with him a bit
through e-mail..I knew his great uncle
Forest.
You-d do yourself a huge favor by reading the
Keister Greer book. Its largely written by using
Roanoke Times accounts of the time. The court transcripts
no longer exist (a little loosy goosy behavior by the retired judge).
I really hope someone decides to do a more serious treatment
of this subject. Especially geared toward more of Keisters
real life documentation of what was actually happening.
