I see that the Fraternal Order of the Police has refused to endorse Romney. This will the first time in 100 years they haven’t endorsed. With the exception of Bill Clinton, they’ve pretty much always supported whomever the Republicans run. Obama knew he wouldn’t get the endorsement, but you can bet Romney DID expect it. This is a big blow to him.

“What we need is a genuine bipartisanship. This national preoccupation with defeating or trumping political opponents has eroded confidence in our leaders and the entire political system. In such an environment comity, compromise and cooperation have become virtually impossible,” Canterbury (FOP president) said.

IOW, Romney isn’t showing that he can improve anything.

Dan, how was your dinner with the Ryans last night?

  3. Dave Gresham | September 15, 2012 at 11:35 am

And in Austrailia they are chanting in the streets: “Behead All Those Who Insult the Prophet.” It’s like a parade of demons… makes the insane Christian religion look almost normal.

  4. Dan Casey | September 15, 2012 at 12:03 pm

david, my understanding is Paul Ryan ate a heaping plate of crow.

  5. Jane | September 15, 2012 at 12:24 pm

A propos of nothing, I noticed yesterday that our Shoptomist had been placed carefully on the public sidewalk at the end of our driveway. I guess the RT management reads Dan’s blog comments!

    Dan..
    RE: Crow..
    elaboration requested.
And was the event catered by Crow-Fil-A?

  7. Warren | September 15, 2012 at 1:14 pm

#6: joe, maybe we should call it “gym crow” after Ryan was caught in lies about his marathon running and mountain climbing.

Okay folks, here’s my third in a series of posts about tax reform. What I suggest in this post comes from the Bipartisan Policy Center. I will present only an outline of the Center’s proposal. To get more detailed information go to http://www.bipartisanpolicy.org.

    Their proposals include the following:

-A 2 bracket income tax with rates of 15% & 28%. The 15% rate applies to to the first $50,999 of income for singles and $101,999 for couples. The 28% rate applies to income over that.

-The corporate tax rate would be 28%.

-Capital gains & dividends would be taxed as ordinary income excluding the first $1000 of realized net capital gains (or losses).

-The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) would be replaced with a flat, refundable per child tax credit of $1600 and a refundable earnings credit equal to the 17.5% of the first $20K of income.

-The current system of itemized deductions would be replaced with the following:
    a. a flat, 15% refundable tax credit for charitable contributions and for up to $25K per year, not indexed, mortgage interest on a primary residence.

    b. eliminate the deduction for state and local taxes.

    c. provide a flat, 15% refundable tax credit or a deduction(for those in the higher bracket) for contributions to retirement savings accounts up to 20% of earnings up to a maximum of $20K.

-Include 100% of Social Security benefits in taxable income, but:

    a. create a non-refundable credit for Social Security beneficiaries equal to 15% of the current standard deduction; and
    b. create a non-refundable credit equal to 15% of an individual’s Social Security benefits.

-Effective in 2015, cap and then phase out over 10 years the tax exclusion for employer sponsored health insurance benefits.

-Allow a deduction of medical expenses in excess of 10% of AGI(as in current law).

-Allow a deduction of miscellaneous itemized deductions in excess of 5% of AGI.

The primary advantage of this plan, in my view, is its massive simplification of the tax code. Most individuals will no longer have to file an annual return beyond the initial declaration of status because most commonly taken deductions have either been turned into refundable credits, determined solely based on the number of children and earnings, or can be deducted above a substantial floor.

I will have other suggestions from other commissions or research centers in the days to come. What do you think folks? :)

  9. Ron May | September 15, 2012 at 1:23 pm

By the way, not one piece of research nor any of the commissions indicated that we could balance the budget solely from budget cuts. In other words “revenue enhancements” have to be part of the solution.

  12. Dan Casey | September 15, 2012 at 5:31 pm

So it now appears that “The Innocence of Muslims” was made by a bunch of Christians who falsely boasted a bunch of Jews financed the movie that that riled up a bunch of Muslims. And they used a soft-core porn director and at least two porn actors.

This thing is getting weirder and weirder.

Why aren’t these people stepping forward. You’d think they’d be proud of their work.

  13. gdad | September 15, 2012 at 5:49 pm

#12 Yep, it was pretty obvious days ago that some hard rifht Christians were going to be behind this. I wonder if the Koch brothers financed them?

The Truth Hurts. But this tension was going to explode at anytime. Thanks to the Arab spring and instability in Egypt in Lybia.

Countdown until Israel does its thing to Iran. Hope the world is ready.

  15. Shrillary | September 15, 2012 at 8:37 pm

Hahahahahaha – So a republican finally speaks the truth when Santorum admits that conservatives will attract dumb people…

Rick Santorum: Conservatives Will “Never Have The Elite, Smart People On Our Side”

WASHINGTON, DC — Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum attacked the media and “smart people” for not being on the side of conservatives in a speech to the Values Voter Summit on Saturday.
“We will never have the media on our side, ever, in this country,” Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, told the audience at the Omni Shoreham hotel. “We will never have the elite, smart people on our side.”

“Countdown until Israel does its thing to Iran.”

In the mangled phrase of GHWB, Nahh gahh haa penn.

  17. gdad | September 15, 2012 at 10:01 pm

#14 PP, if Israel were to do something drastic, they would deservedly become the pariah of the world.

And funny how right wingers think countries should look to Democracy and determine their own government, except when its Muslims electing people right wingers don’t like.

  18. Shrillary | September 15, 2012 at 10:20 pm

Romney in Northern VA on Thursday:
““This president’s done something I find hard to understand. Ever since FDR, we’ve had capacity to be engaged in two conflicts at once,” Romney said. “He’s [President Obama] saying, ‘No, we’re going to cut that back to one conflict.’” http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/romney-obama-wants-us-to-have-capacity-for

Romney, with his Bush neo-cons policy advisors, are the definition of chicken hawks – bellicose rhetoric directed at Russia, and warmongering against Iran during his acceptance speech in Tampa. A Romney Administration would be a return to Bush’s foreign policy [Dubya Redux] – a policy that put us in a constant state of war for 12 years, in two countries, costing thousands of lives and billions of dollars a year, When a single member of Romney’s family, including any one of his 5 sons, are put in harm’s way, we would see him change his tune. Historically, there hasn’t been a Romney family members of any generation tp serve this country in the military. Chickenhawk? “You betcha”. Want another war…vote for Romney – he has nothing to lose.

  19. Kristen | September 15, 2012 at 10:49 pm

Netanyahu will kick and scream but he’s not doing jack without Obama’s permission.

  20. dave | September 16, 2012 at 2:05 am

Anyone here ever read a book called “Up The Down Staircase”. The theme and the title came to mind when I read this unbelievable summary of Ryan’s speech to that sham called the Values Summit. I mean, RYAN saying that OBAMA panders to the extremists on the abortion issue? What planet is he on anyway?

    http://health.yahoo.net/news/s/nm/republican-ryan-says-obama-panders-to-extremists-on-abortion

  21. dave | September 16, 2012 at 2:29 am

    Shrillary

Santorum’s chracterization of the Republican Party, especially its tea party extremist wing goes a long way to explaining the infestation which has been visited upon this blog by Suzie and her band of dimwits. She has attracted the giant intellects of pammalala, Jeff Dodo (and his many aliases), pistol pete, steve nelson, frank , little will, Lake Claytor,
SharonN, one trick pony Henry (who still thinks its 2004 ) and various and sundry other birthers, UN conspiracy theorists, mccarthyites and troglodytes to her side to defend and sing her praises. It’s as if we have been overrun by the whole damn trailer park with the collective IQ of a turnip.
90% of ol’ frank’s posts start with “hey” Every time I read one it conjures up an instant image of Gomer Pyle only this “Gomer” lacks
the goodhearted nature and empathy for others of the original.
And some of the rest remiond me of Darrell and his brothers Darrell and Darrell from the old Bob Newhart shows.
You just can’t make this stuff up.. Somebody with writing talent (like
maybe Warren) could turn these characters binto a hell of a sitcom.

  22. Suzie | September 16, 2012 at 8:46 am

OK, are the morons still claiming all these anti-American protests are because of some non-existent movie?

The fact is obviously 0bama’s weakness has accounted for all these uprisings, starting with this support and financing of Islamofascist regimes. You sure didn’t see this under Bush after he clamped down. I thought 0bama was supposed to make us loved and respected throughout the world. We aren’t. We’re laughed at.

Look for the MSM to downplay all the rioting and protests. David Gregory was blaming Romney for all of it this morning. Look for that kind of nonsense to continue. They’ll protect President Idiot at all costs.

  23. Jeff Doto | September 16, 2012 at 9:58 am

The sitcom resides in the White House….for now.

  24. Dan Casey | September 16, 2012 at 11:16 am

“OK, are the morons still claiming all these anti-American protests are because of some non-existent movie?”

Now that the cat is out of the bag that is Christians trying to blame Jews for a movie that excited some Muslims, she wants to forget all about it and move on.

  25. Dan Casey | September 16, 2012 at 11:20 am

    Jeff Doto,

I’m not approving any more of you comments as rwt2557. Stick to Jeff Doto, or save yourself the effort.

Now that the cat is out of the bag that is Christians trying to blame Jews for a movie that excited some Muslims, she wants to forget all about it and move on.

Have you seen the video, Dan?

Isn’t it amazing these “spontaneous” (according to the 0bama WH) murders, firebombings, and riots occurred right at September 11? Quite a coincidence, isn’t it?

  27. gdad | September 16, 2012 at 11:24 am

#256 Gosh, Dan, you’re going to “CENSOR” Dolto? Maybe suzie will leave in protest.

  28. gdad | September 16, 2012 at 11:28 am

#22 Are you denying the 13:51 anti-Muslism video clip exists, suzie? Yes or no.

  29. Dan Casey | September 16, 2012 at 11:50 am

Not going to censor Doto. He can write almost anything he wants, as Doto. I’m cracking down on his predilection for pretending to be a number of different anonymous identities.

  30. gdad | September 16, 2012 at 11:57 am

#27 Dan, Dan, I was kidding about the “censor” thing. I think you were up too late last night.

  31. dobbs | September 16, 2012 at 2:14 pm

Re: censorship. I saw a T-shirt the other day that read, “Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver.”

  32. gdad | September 16, 2012 at 2:40 pm

#26 I know this will come as a shock to you, troll, seeing as you have yet to figure out that you don’t have to go back to the beach house to get online, but they do have the Internet in the Muslim world. I’m sure you didn’t think that was possible for a bunch of “toothless ragheads” (YOUR ethnic slur from another thread), but there it is.

Duct tape is “The Force” — dark on one side and light on the other; binding and ubiquitous powerful. It holds the universe together.

    Re: Comment by gdad — September 16, 2012 @ 2:40 pm

Yup! It has been established that internet social media has played a major role in most uprisings in the recent past — especially in the Muslim world.

Dave Hicks, I think I read somewhere that Ryan shot a 62 on that golf course.
