Subject: Dan Casey’s rant against the Tea Party

Note from Dan: This letter was sent to Carole Tarrant, editor of The Roanoke Times. I have redacted the writer’s last name. My answer and his response is below.

This is for Mr. Casey.

This concerns his recent rant (9-23-12) against the tea party concerning ICLEI and Mr. Elswick.

I realize it’s hard for Mr. Casey to be humble when he knows everything about everything including that which isn’t true. There is no one who knows everything but God! Mr. Casey by his arrogance exposes his gross ignorance. It would be to his learning to research Agenda 21 and ICLEI before he runs his mouth again.

Here is a link concerning ICLEI and it’s mama Agenda 21.

The Tea Party is aggressively dumb and proud of it

Dear Mr O—-,

Thank you for reading my column in Sunday’s paper, and for writing in about it.

I want you to know that I am not at all arrogant. I am probably one of the most filled-with-humility people you will ever meet.

The arrogant people are the ones who go to meetings and spout anti-science nonsense. The brag they know more about science and their chief evidence is they are NOT scientists. It is an article of faith among them that almost all scientists are liars. They badly want to disagree with scientific findings that unsettle them, so they attack the scientists. It’s a kill-the-messenger game.

It is these sort of people who (in the name of God) had the astronomer Galileo locked up for the rest of his life after he published an essay that said the Earth revolved around the sun, rather than the other way around.

They mocked Christopher Columbus for his Earth-is-round theory. They said high-speed rail travel was impossible because passengers would die of asphyxiation; that human flight would never happen because man was not a bird; that the automobile was a fad that would never supplant the horse and buggy, and that no rocket would ever be able to leave Earth’s atmosphere.

And both of us know how all of that stuff worked out. The scientists were right.

I would urge you not to ally yourself too closely with the Tea Party, because they are aggressively dumb and proud of it. They may be peaceful right now, but one day that may change. Already some of them have talked about “the bullet box” remedy if they don’t like what they get at the ballot box. They are the 21st-century version of 1930s Germany’s Brown Shirts.

They support silly things like prohibiting state environmental reports from using terms like “rising sea levels,” as if that alone is going to save the dunes on the Outer Banks. They are heads-in-the-sanders, people who think they can wish bad facts away. That is an occult practice, by the way.

YouTube videos from Infowars will not change my mind about this one iota.

But thank you for reading the newspaper, and writing in. I hope you keep reading it, because it can teach readers a lot, so long as they haven’t so poisoned their minds with Tea Party pap that they are closed forever.

Sincerely,

Dan Casey

‘Sounds like global control to me’

Mr. Casey,

Thank you for your reply.

I suggest you get involved with the Tea Party so you can correct your attitude toward them. I’m amazed that you are also well versed in science. It amazes me how you can accuse the Tea Party of scientific ignorance. After all, everyone doesn’t agree with science that has been proven to be faulty. Particularly, global warming. It is full of false science and hypocrisy and downright lies.

To deny that ICLEI is not associated with Agenda 21 is wrong. Take a look at this website.

You might not know that they are related. So search it out and then make you argument.

You are in your own sight, since you say so, “I am probably one of the most filled-with-humility people you will ever meet.” Sounds a bit arrogant to me. I would like to meet you and attend the Tea party with you. Let me know.

Yes, I do attend the Pulaski BOS meetings. Quite interesting to say the least. Afer all, that’s what ICLEI is all about. By the way, the acronym Means, Internationsl Council for Local Enviromental Initives. Does not the first word tell you this is global? Sounds like global control to me.

It might help you to understand these “sort of people who (in the name of God),” if you took interest in their God and the Bible. You might find they are not nutty. I’m sure somewhere along the way you have found some science that you espoused not science at all.

May our Lord God give you a peaceful night. Sleep well.

Typical. Call people names and insult them on every line and then wish them God’s blessing as if it were his to bestow. What a goat!

  2. Dave Gresham | September 26, 2012 at 1:57 pm

It’s nice to know that the U.N. is actually doing something worthwhile (for a change). All Agenda 21 does is encourage metro areas to start thinking about how to cope with increasing demand on dwindling resources.

“The sky is falling, the sky is falling”… Not.

  3. Kristen | September 26, 2012 at 2:05 pm

I think this guy needs an award from VGM for his meritorious service.

Dave, there ARE NO DWINDING RESOURCES. This is AMERICA, get it? OUR resources will never dwindle! That’s just America-hating negativism.

  4. Other John | September 26, 2012 at 2:26 pm

To be perfectly honest, I’ve been involved in development and land use work for a good chunk of my career, and sustainable developments have been by far the most attractive ones I’ve been a part of…be it from the developer’s side or the government/reviewer side. Having more dense housing to keep green space open for residents, reducing traffic by encouraging transit and bike use, or walking, makes sense and leads to a much better place to live, in my opinion.

Maybe it’s because I lived for 3 years in Italy and have lived in dense urban areas like Detroit, Raleigh, etc, but those types of development and sustainability initiatives do not frighten me. I’ve also had the opportunity to live in typical suburban residential sprawl of Virginia Beach, where I grew up, and by far disliked that more than anywhere else I’ve lived. It’s just dense enough to have limited open space, but nowhere near dense enough to create density hubs for efficient use of local resources, transit, etc. It’s the worst of all worlds, unless you’re making money on real estate development or construction.

We presently live in a semi-rural community in Pulaski County. I like it well enough because we have our house, and enough space to have a garden and some privacy. But, if we had the ability to do so, we would have prefered living in a denser area closer to where I work, where we could have made use of transit systems to get around rather than having to drive everywhere. There is no conspiracy to forcibly relocate people to new developments, it’s still market-driven…and the market has been demanding such changes to development. People like things like sidewalks, bike lanes, mixed-use trails, parks, green space, etc. It’s a quality of life issue, and the developers have been keen to include that in their projects…they sell.

Dan should spend more time chasing rainbows, researching AREA 51 and the lost city of Atlantis. The time spent would be as productive as that which the Willie O suggests.

  6. James Swingle | September 26, 2012 at 4:05 pm

    Willie;
Align yourself with the Occupy group where you can be part of brilliant group of people who actually HAVE lashed out in violence. Dan doesn’t observe that fact. Who have flea infestation experiments or rape women at events. Join and you can attempt to stomp out legal American industries. These people as our President says are our best and brightest. Also Willie if someone has to tell you how humble they are it is a warning. Not sure why Willie would want to be a part of the population who actually try to run candidates with their views and vote them into office. Unheard of! Bunch of neanderthals.

  7. Rob Thommins | September 26, 2012 at 4:24 pm

I’m getting the popcorn ready for this one.

Note to Ms. Saunders: Goats are actually very nice creatures.
Weathered bucks don’t even stink much.

  8. Debbie | September 26, 2012 at 5:30 pm

OJ, IMO,you also don’t fear those types of development and sustainability initiatives because you have a working brain.

This fear of the UN is incredible to me. Insane is the only word for it.

  9. J.M.White | September 26, 2012 at 5:33 pm

This is really, really sad. The things these people fear from Agenda 21 can already happen here and originate from the same principle of eminent domain already in use.

If the county wants to build a new school, they’ll offer you a paltry sum for your land (usually in the neighborhood of 50% of market value). If you refuse, they’ll just condemn it, give you what they want and take it anyway. New highway coming through? They’ll take it. It happens all the time.

If you’re not raising a cry about that, why on earth do you wail and moan about the U.N.? No one is going to invade us. The casualty rate would be unacceptably high and our insurgency would make Iraq look like a water balloon fight.

Do you think American troops are going to turn their weapons on American citizens just wanting to stay in their own home? No single soldier, current or vet, that I’ve talked to has said that they would mow down American citizens under any kind of orders. So, not only would there be a monstrous insurgency, there would likely be a huge coup of military power as the troops turned on the government. Think about that. Does it still look like a viable (or even possible) plan now?

Good grief! Some of the Agenda 21 theorists get so bizarre and extreme as to believe the world governments and the U.N. have been infiltrated and are now controlled by reptilian aliens. Everything outside of the established “habitability zones” will be exterminated (there are several guesses as to how).

It’s a long-term sustainability proposal. Yes, there are some radical ideas within it. We are fast approaching some radical problems, so we just might need them.

But hey, whatever. Go ahead and fight the imaginary boogeyman. In 30 years, you (or your children) will be screaming about why you weren’t warned that things were going to get that bad and why doesn’t anyone do anything about it. It won’t matter; it’ll be too late. It almost is now.

  10. Dan Casey | September 26, 2012 at 5:51 pm

The Clean Water Act is in furtherance of the goals of Agenda 21. Same with the Clean Air Act.

    Need we say more? Repeal’em!

Quick, before the black helicopters start buzzing your house! :)

  11. Sandi Saunders | September 26, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Rob T, you misunderstood the reference. I don’t have a thing against the animal called “goat”.

    Matthew 25:31
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Maybe this is why being called a sheep does not bother me.

  12. Sandi Saunders | September 26, 2012 at 7:29 pm

J.M. White, maybe this has something to do with feeding that fear and ignorance that sure seems more tortured than bliss?

    http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/08/23/texas-judge-warns-civil-unrest-un-troop-presence-if-obama-re-elected/

“(Obama is) going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the U.N., and what is going to happen when that happens?” Head asked, according to MyFoxLubbock.com. “I’m thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we’re not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we’re talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy.”

Head went on to predict that if that happens, Obama will “send in U.N. troops.”

  13. Sandi Saunders | September 26, 2012 at 7:32 pm

Don’t worry Willie, the “Oath Keepers” is on the job!

    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2010/03/oath-keepers

Oath Keepers and the Age of Treason
Glenn Beck loves them. Tea Partiers court them. Congressmen listen to them. Meet the fast-growing “patriot” group that’s recruiting soldiers to resist the Obama administration.

  14. Mike Hickok | September 26, 2012 at 7:42 pm

I don’t agree with Mr Casey very often. But, having read the ‘notorious’ Agenda 21 and the ICLE, and having had the misfortune of being in the presence of rabid Tea Partiers at a rally, in this case, I couldn’t agree with him more. Some of the {thoughts?} and opinions espoused by these people can only be termed ‘bizzare’ by rational people. Black helicopters don’t even start to cover it, Black alien Starships would be more accurate.

  15. Leon | September 26, 2012 at 10:52 pm

The Tea Party is aggressively dumb and proud of it
    Sincerely,

    Dan Casey
    The Roanoke Times

Dan, the title for your response makes Mr. Draper’s point. Your ignorance
    corresponds to your arrogance.

The Tea Party has become a political force without the violence of the Occupy movement. While you may disagree with their ideas resorting to
name calling is, at best, childish and at worst, arrogant in the extreme.
The Tea Party movement is based on conservative principles which include
repect for individual and personal property rights as well as onstitutional and, therefore, limited government.

It might benefit you to take Mr. Draper up on his offer…you might very well learn something.

As to Agenda21; IMO it is bad business. It starts with the UN which has proven to be a worthless, corrupt institution full of hypocrisy. Agenda21 is a world domination scheme gaining some traction since global warming has been found to be based on falsified science and nothing more than a hoax. From the perspective of the USA; we should be showing the world how to accomplish the planning and building of society rather than
buying into their Agenda. Our track record is unmatched throughout history.

In all that I have seen you write this is the most disgusting example of
hypocrisy that I have observed. I believe you owe Mr. Draper an apology.

  16. Leon | September 26, 2012 at 11:04 pm

For those of you who believe that the black helicopters are a joke and not even a remote possibility…you may be right…as the technology has
    moved to drones.

However, can anyone provide a reason as to why the DHS has ordered 1.4 billion rounds of ammo and 2500 (50 per state) armored assualt vehicles(with “Rescue” labels affixed) when every city, county and state has an
adequate police force as well as a cadre of law abiding citizens who, by virtue of the 2nd amendment, are quite well armed? Just who will they protect, rescue or slaughter? Could it be you?

  17. Dan Casey | September 27, 2012 at 12:42 am

I hear the drones are flying over Joe Farah’s place in NoVa. At least, he claims they are. (Watch the video. It’s priceless).

  18. Art Hill | September 27, 2012 at 1:21 am

    “(Watch the video. It’s priceless).”

    Uh…what video?

    Mike Hickok,
Do you likewise believe Roanoke County should pay $1200 to have poltergeists checked out in county homes? How about using that money to track the Tooth Fairy’s movements? If so, you probably thing supporting ICLEI is a good thing.

  20. Art Hill | September 27, 2012 at 4:45 am

Morning, linkee now workee. In other news, President Obama opens up double-digit leads in swing states. Party’s over, last one out turn off the lights.

  21. Sandi Saunders | September 27, 2012 at 8:39 am

The “TEA Party” (which is not even a party!) has become a farce that has crippled the Republican Party and may give Democrats the long lived authority they have lusted after for decades. If you consider them “a political force”, you are wrong. They are a political cancer and the Republicans cannot recover if they do not remove them from any power or authority before they ruin the entire party.

For the record, “resorting to name calling” has been one of their strongest tactics. From calling the President a Muslim (to scare people) and an illegal alien, to depicting him in racist and disgusting posters.

Their loud, childish, arrogant and ignorant in the extreme tactics have disrupted town hall meetings, government meetings and interfered with elections. They are as close to the Brown Shirts as this nation has come IMO.

Their “movement” is based on disrupting and lying and distorting and spreading fear. They are not “conservative” and they have proven they have no “principles”

It is a bunch of uninformed, zealous in that ignorance, bullies. Like all bullies, zealots and ignorant people, they are dangerous, but there is no good that can come to the Republican Party from their gaining power.

Like the McCarthyites, the John Birchers and the Moral Majority before them, the “TEA Party” is going back in the closet. This is America!

  22. Sandi Saunders | September 27, 2012 at 8:53 am

OMG Leon, are you serious, the Department of Homeland Security has ammo, equipment and guns? STOP THE PRESSES! Next thing we know, you will be saying the military has bombs!

If you were not so pitiful, you would be hilarious!

  23. Kristen | September 27, 2012 at 9:05 am

It’s a pretty long video, but I like how Jones described Farah as a “pioneer in alternative constitutional media”. What does “alternative constitutional media” even mean…”news” for nutjobs?

There’s no drone over your house, you nutbag. He only wishes he were important enough to rate one.

  24. gdad | September 27, 2012 at 9:31 am

And to think that posters on this blog quote this guy and WND as if they were some sort of reliable source.

And, man, that Alex Jones guy needs to lay off the coffee or take some Ritalin or something.

  25. Dan Casey | September 27, 2012 at 9:51 am

Art, the link’s been fixed. Thanks for the heds up.

  26. Sandi Saunders | September 27, 2012 at 9:57 am

Truth be told, “poltergeists” and those pesky “Tooth Fairy’s movements” are just as dangerous as “supporting ICLEI”.

  27. Dan Casey | September 27, 2012 at 10:05 am

This was the year that I was going to pitch some major magazines on sending me & Donna, undercover, on the World Net Daily annual Alaska cruise. And then I was going to come back and write a first-person account, kind of like I Made Pizza for Kim Jong-Il, which in my mind is the classic of the genre.

This is the first year in many they’re not having a cruise. I reckon those nuts couldn’t stand being trapped on a boat with each other again.

  28. J.M.White | September 27, 2012 at 11:28 am

$1200 is actually pretty cheap for a poltergeist investigation (though, I find it curious and laughable that the same people who believe in a book full of demons, spirits and possessions of all sorts would ridicule the concept of poltergeists).

It is a little steep for tracking the Tooth Fairy, but to be fair, it does involve quite a bit of advanced technology.

Broken down, that $1200 would cost each individual of Roanoke County less than 2 pennies – 2 cents to help plan for the long-term sustainability, longevity and stamina of the human race (and land forfeiture, forced relocation and indentured servitude to our reptilian overlords, of course).

Oh, the horror! County residents are being FLEECED for 1.6 cents per year – EACH! Why aren’t thousands of people banding together to fight this monstrous misappropriation of funds? Oh, that’s right… because it’s a stupid, trivial thing to fight. It’s a fringe issue for a reason.

I don’t even live in RoCo, but I’m more than willing to pay anyone’s 1.6 cents for them if they wish to bow out from supporting the jackbooted, iron fist of ICLEI. I’ll even instruct the stormtroopers to skip over your homes during the Relocation.

  29. Suzie | September 27, 2012 at 12:03 pm

Broken down, that $1200 would cost each individual of Roanoke County less than 2 pennies – 2 cents to help plan for the long-term sustainability, longevity and stamina of the human race

Yeah, that’s the rationale for every tax increase to ever come down the pike. Just a small amount per person. Odd that tax cuts are never presented that way.

The ICLEI crap is worse than throwing money away, however. It’s a vote against your own self-interest, because it finances and empowers those who are working to bring down capitalism.

  30. Shrillary | September 27, 2012 at 12:35 pm

All over the RW internet media like the The Daily Caller, Examiner, or infowars.com they are promoting these scary stories about the government [SSA, Homeland Security, Weather Service...] purchasing weapons and ammo..why?

In a statement released to the public, the SSA stated that the ammo is intended for training and security purposes only:
” SSA is processing more applications than ever, which means more traffic in SSA offices. Employee and visitor safety is the highest priority for OIG, [Office of the Inspector General] which, together with the Federal Protective Services and local law enforcement, has jurisdiction over SSA workplaces.”

SSA have fraud investigators who have a “duty carry”. Many different government agencies employ criminal investigators and special agents – SSA has 66 offices across the US and more than 290 agents – that was the reason for the request for weapons and ammunition.

The same explanation for other parts of the government – like Department of Homeland Security or the Weather Service – all which have investigators. No conspiracy unless you call having the government’s agents carry a weapon and therefore need bullets for them. So much paranoia…

Here is the link to Snopes.com debunking conspiracies..

“Yeah, that’s the rationale for every tax increase to ever come down the pike. Just a small amount per person. Odd that tax cuts are never presented that way.”

Fair point, Suzie, and tentatively, I agree. But can you itemize and tell me specifically how that money is worse than being thrown away? How about directly quantifying how ICLEI is trying to bring down capitalism?

  32. Sandi Saunders | September 27, 2012 at 1:05 pm

We should be much more scared of the increased NEED for armed government employees than the arming of the employees. Crackpots and mass shooters have a lot in common. They are not rational.

  33. Sandi Saunders | September 27, 2012 at 1:08 pm

IF capitalism dies, it will be death at its own hands and there is myriad documentation to back that up. Greed is a powerful motivator, I do not think old cappy is in any danger, certainly none not self inflicted.

  34. Kristen | September 27, 2012 at 1:18 pm

Yeah, recycling is going to “bring down capitalism”.

    Yawn.

  35. John Wilburn | September 27, 2012 at 2:02 pm

    Sandi:

“We should be much more scared of the increased NEED for armed government employees than the arming of the employees.”

Agreed, but we know for absolute certain that the need exists so why make them leave their lives to chance for something someone else believes in? My only issue is government employees having more say in their own self defense than the general public. They can have whatever they want so long as we can too.

  36. Leon | September 27, 2012 at 6:25 pm

    Comment by Shrillary — September 27, 2012 @ 12:35 pm

Guess since it’s the SSA they still have credibility for truthfulness in
your unreality. Odiot and his SOS just blew all credibility with the Libya debacle and got four US citizens tortured and killed. IMO, any statement by this administration is 100% Lypocrisy.

Why did the DHS not need such quantities of ammo under other administrations?

  37. Dan Casey | September 27, 2012 at 9:00 pm

“Why did the DHS not need such quantities of ammo under other administrations?”

    Under other administrations? AdminstrationS?

The Department of Homeland Security didn’t exist under other administrationS, Leon. It was created after 9/11. That happened during the GW Bush Administration. That was the one previous to the Obama Administration.

And how do you know they didn’t buy ammo when Bush was president, anyway? How do you know they didn’t buy MORE than this? Because you didn’t hear about it on Infowars or World Net Daily?

    Puhlease.

  38. J.M.White | September 27, 2012 at 9:49 pm

Leon: So, it’s okay for you or I to buy as much ammo as we want whenever we want, but it’s not okay for the government to do the same? Gun sales are booming, there are paranoid groups training and preparing for armed resistance should Obama be reelected… and the government is daft for preparing for it? Interesting.

Would you not be the same person screaming about the government’s incompetence in handling such an uprising were it to occur?
