Subject: Maintaining the Status Quo

Are you aware that Amy Goodman was allowed to speak at Virginia Tech recently?

Have you lost your minds?

Of course, we already knew that General Electric and its stockholders earn billions of dollars making bombs, then make billions more by owning a thousand news outlets that always say we are right for dropping those bombs (and need to make more).

But why in Hell would you let someone talk about it to regular folks? Did you learn nothing after independent news wrecked our Vietnam War? For 15 years this woman has been associated with “Democracy Now!” an independent news program that is already polluting the airwaves on 1,100 stations – including 17 National Public Radio outlets! This cancer must be stopped.

Judging by conversations among the people at her presentation, many of them want her program broadcast on your public radio station WVTF, a “service” of the university. As you know, a group of childish do-gooders has been petitioning Virginia Tech to carry her program for almost 5 years. Fortunately, General Manager Glen Gleixner has stopped these morons cold.

“Democracy Now!” is the last thing we need…

From business scandals to political patronage, human rights to endangered species, this crazy broad can’t keep her mouth shut. Would you believe her program actually goes to war zones and interviews people face to face, even showing pictures of dead soldiers and civilians? It has taken 40 years to kill her kind of naive journalism and we must not let it infect the public again.

Of course, the hope is that Big Bird, along with public broadcasting outlets such as WVTF, will be history on Inauguration Day. But we can’t assume the election of our Patron Saint of Easy Street is a certainty.

It’s frustrating we still haven’t persuaded some Americans to trust the very wealthy with owning news stations. But fortunately, we still have some citizens who think billionaires wouldn’t even exist if they didn’t care so much about other people. Therefore, I warn you, if you want to continue to suckle from the crotch of billionaires, you better mobilize these minions to kill “Democracy Now!”

The phone number for Glenn Gleixner at WVTF is 989-8900. Call him today! Demand he do my bidding and continue to keep independent news programs off public radio.

Thank me,

Sssssssssss

    Is this sarcasm?

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. 9 The great dragon was hurled down–that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. 11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. 12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”

Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

    Sheldon

    Love your show.

  6. Shrillary | October 12, 2012 at 9:40 am

What does one say to such posts at #2 and #3? What information is gleaned from posts #2 or #3? Why are they thought to be relevant?
    I don’t understand…

  7. Kristen | October 12, 2012 at 9:43 am

I can’t ever read the word “Satan” without hearing Dana Carvey in my head.

  8. Dan Casey | October 12, 2012 at 9:59 am

    Absolutely it’s sarcasm.

  9. Kristen | October 12, 2012 at 10:01 am

You can safely assume when someone has “minions” in their heading, it’s not meant to be taken seriously.

  10. Will R | October 12, 2012 at 10:02 am

Will, I think, is Jerry Falwell’s ghost. Who said there’s no reincarnation?

Thanks for the compliment Dan but I can assure you -

Hebrews 9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. (see post 3)

Will R, who was Jesus talking too in the passage from John that you quoted?

  12. Will R | October 12, 2012 at 10:13 am

@6 – just thought I’d offer a little info regarding the “author” of the above letter.
Mathew 13:14 In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: ” ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving. 15 For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

  13. Sandi Saunders | October 12, 2012 at 10:14 am

Jumped the shark, no other polite way to describe it.

  14. Shrillary | October 12, 2012 at 10:35 am

Will – what is your opinion of the Mormon principal of Lying for the Lord? I see you keep citing passages about lying. Romney/Ryan have probably broken the record of the “Father of Lies” [you know who that is]…

Now look at the Mormon training video by Robert Millet who talks to Mormon missionaries – about Lying for the Lord. [banned from YouTube, but it keeps being re-posted]
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zA-rZQB-xQ

    Who is Robert Millet”
    http://mormoncurtain.com/topic_robertlmillet.html

So, do you believe someone, who can justify using God to lie about anything, is presidential material?

  15. Debbie | October 12, 2012 at 10:36 am

Old Blue, I wanted to answer Sheldon Cooper, with Bazinga!

  16. Sheldon Cooper | October 12, 2012 at 11:06 am

Oh, it was a Bazinga! Thanks for letting me know, and a good one too.
I was lost in thought trying to figure out the probability and factors that resulted in the independent news wrecking the Vietnam War.

  17. Dave Gresham | October 12, 2012 at 11:26 am

Correction Dan: I am not an “Occupy” activist.
    1. I quit Occupy last winter.
    2. I was an activist long before they came along.

Note I quit Occupy because the format was hopeless… Every decision required consensus, which in turn enabled the most selfish to take control by disagreeing until they got their way. In short, children ruled. This happened over and over, with the result being that everyone quickly wearied. In fact, the majority of people left after one or two meetings and by December over 95% of the participants were gone. Of course, the kiddies are gone now too, but the damage is done.

But there was one big victory… Hundreds of thousands of people that were novices at reform work have had a fire lit in them for community service. And they will gravitate into countless new projects in the coming years, which will eventually create a thousand times more reform than the little seed of Occupy.

PS: Will any of you armchair warriors reading this even bother to call WVTF and tell them to broadcast the Democracy Now program? Or do you really think that billionaires give you unbiased news on the stations they own? I’m betting that not one of you can be bothered to call. Please prove me wrong.

  18. Dan Casey | October 12, 2012 at 11:31 am

    Dave Gresham,

My apologies. Occupy in Elmwood Park is where I first met you. I’ve changed the lead-in note to reflect your former Occupy status.

  19. Sandi Saunders | October 12, 2012 at 12:27 pm

I emailed him and assured him of this listeners support for “Democracy Now”.

  20. old blue | October 12, 2012 at 1:06 pm

So, Dave. How did you come by this letter from Satan, anyway? Are you two in touch? Say hi to his minions, if you get the chance.

  21. billhudson | October 12, 2012 at 2:03 pm

As to why WVTF does not put on Democracy Now I think comes from the fact they are trying to not offend some of their listeners. Why they don’t put on the show I think is sad. This show shines a light on stories that the main media does not cover. It should cover many stories but the fact is they don’t so Democracy Now fills some of that gap.
Amy Goodman is a very nice lady. I met her in NYC at Pete Seeger’s birthday bash.
Here is wishing WVTF sees the light but I will not be holding my breath.

    Kristen:

7.”I can’t ever read the word “Satan” without hearing Dana Carvey in my head.”

LOL. Yep, now I can’t either. Thanks.

9.”You can safely assume when someone has “minions” in their heading, it’s not meant to be taken seriously.”

    Or “From: Satan” Just sayin’

  23. Shrillary | October 12, 2012 at 8:15 pm

Dave Gresham – I contacted them – here’s the response I received this evening:

Thank you for your comments regarding Democracy Now! (DN)

We are very aware of the program and have reviewed it many times during the past few years. However, we have concluded that it is not a good fit for our schedule. Generally considered to be advocacy journalism, DN works much better as an Internet and pod cast program.

We are not alone in this decision. Out of the nearly 300 NPR member stations across the country, only 17 air Democracy Now. There are many shows available to us that we do not carry; We just cannot air them all.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for Amy Goodman’s show and invite you to listen to it on the Web at: http://www.democracynow.org/

Thank you again for writing and for your support.

    Best regards

    Glenn Gleixner, General Manager
    Rick Mattioni, Program Director

  24. Dave Gresham | October 12, 2012 at 8:39 pm

@18: Thanks Dan! and @19 THANKS Sandi!! Every person that writes or calls is noticed… Hopefully WVTF will wake up if enough of us fuss about the lack of genuinely independent news!

  25. Dave Gresham | October 12, 2012 at 8:45 pm

Thanks to you too Hillary! And don’t be discouraged as that’s a boilerplate response letter when people write.

  26. Ron May | October 12, 2012 at 10:14 pm

    Dave Gresham,

Is there any good real estate for sale at Smith Mountain Lake? I’m thinking about retirement in the summer of 2014. :)
