Pro-gun pol: ‘Welcome to Tennessee, Mr. Obama’

A Republican candidate for Congress, who talks a little bit like Dr. Seuss writes, has welcomed the president to his state by posting a photo of his handgun on his Facebook page. The Secret Service says it’s aware of Brad Staats’ actions.

Guess he doesn’t want to keep the “terrorists” from getting guns.

  2. William Bova | October 2, 2012 at 2:12 pm

What a moron, hopefully no one will pay any attention to this loonatic-kook who wants to be elected a legitimate United States Congressman. Maybe they can get a judge to issue a mental health warrant for Mr. Staats and get him the professional mental health services he obviously must need. Lets all pray for him to get this help and get better soon.

People such as this do not really help the case for the rest of us who happen to be gun owners and enthusiasts.

  5. VVArlock | October 2, 2012 at 3:43 pm

I am as pro 2nd as anyone could possibly be.
I have watched the lies come from the right, re-hashing the lie about the UN, telling scarey moonshine camp-fire stories about the black man coming to take their guns…
The problem is all these stories lack substance. The Dems are too cowardly to even get legislation 60-70% of America supports passed, they won’t touch the 2nd in any significant way. It has been admitted that this is a third rail not to be touched by the Dems.

I have very little fear about my 2nd Amendment rights in the next 4 years under President Obama.

More whackadoodles per square mile than prairie dogs in the west! The GOP attracts lunatics like a downtown attracts vagrants. Pitiful.

If someone did the same to Romney, they would have their hair on fire for a federal investigation.

  10. Leon | October 2, 2012 at 8:04 pm

Hope Brad Staats wins the Congressional seat.

Obama has a lot more to worry about with the 2nd amendment than this Facebook posting…Fast and Furious, the Univision update, should make
a tidy dent in Hispanic support…Obama lied; Hispanics died. More F & F
guns located; used in massacre of approxmately 20 Mexican teenagers; Cartel head arrested with the guns. Don’t look in the lamestream media for this story; just Google. How’s that Executive Privilege working for
    you…kinda like Hope and Change!

    Comment by VVArlock — October 2, 2012 @ 3:43 pm

The UN passed the small arms treaty last week. Obama has indicated he will sign it; which then leaves it up to the Senate to ratify or reject.

This treaty is bad business for the 2nd amendment and, if ratified, would
supercede the 2nd amendment as law of the land. Therefore, if you like the 2nd amendment it behooves you to vote for Senators who will protect it. ObamaCloneKaine is bad business for the 2nd amendment.

Believe what you want. Do what is right.

  12. VVArlock | October 2, 2012 at 10:46 pm

    Leon –

NO treaty can supersede an Amendment. Ever. Try taking a Constitutional Law class.

To change the constitution you need a subsequent Amendment.

    You have bought the lies.

There are 2 ways to change the constitution:

The first method is for a bill to pass both houses of the legislature, by a two-thirds majority in each. Once the bill has passed both houses, it goes on to the states. This is the route taken by all current amendments. Because of some long outstanding amendments, such as the 27th, Congress will normally put a time limit (typically seven years) for the bill to be approved as an amendment (for example, see the 21st and 22nd).

The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken, and there is discussion in political science circles about just how such a convention would be convened, and what kind of changes it would bring about.
    http://www.usconstitution.net/constam.html

No treaty ratification process matches those processes.

  13. VVArlock | October 2, 2012 at 10:52 pm

And what makes you think it has passed?

Nothing I can see from any credible source or even the U.N.’s own page suggests thatthis has passed.

    As a matter of fact
“5:22 GMT, October 2, 2012 The decision by the General Assembly (GA) of the United Nations to drop deliberations on the Arms Trade Treaty has stymied a laudable process which had commenced in 2003. Some analysts believe that it is now beyond redemption. But foisting the blame entirely on the Americans will not be right because amongst the P5 countries neither the Russians, nor the Chinese (PRC) wanted the treaty to go through, specifically the way it was taking shape; also due to the nature of its ingredients. The Indian actions also indicate the country’s own misgivings. Yet at the same time, experts also believe that the role of the GA is not ultimate and it is limited to conveying the sense of the house. The real action takes place at the Security Council (UNSC) and had the treaty reached this forum in its current form, then it would have invariably been subjected to a veto.”

  14. VVArlock | October 2, 2012 at 11:02 pm

““The Secretary-General believes that the success achieved at this Review Conference will further bolster the international community’s efforts to tackle the challenges associated with the wide availability of illicit small arms,” the UN chief’s spokesperson added. “In particular, this success should give further impetus to the efforts to conclude the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) process in the nearest future.” ”
    http://www.un.org/apps/news/story.asp?NewsID=42832&Cr=Small%20Arms&Cr1=#.UGupEBjgIdY

That was one day after the conspiracy morons claimed it had passed. Which it had not because it was only in review committee, it was not even scheduled for progress out of the review committee.

  17. Dan Casey | October 2, 2012 at 11:28 pm

    VVarlock,

That’s precisely why Leon believes the arms treaty has passed — because the GA has DROPPED it! That is a signal to the Tea Party that it actually has PASSED.

You see, deep in the American heartland, in some decommissioned Atlas E missile silo, there is a Tea Party mad chemist. He has a enormous supply of ergocristine, a key ingredient necessary for the production of LSD, which the feds neglected to control until 2011.

For years, the chemist has been slaving amid bubbling beakers, roto-evaporators, Buchner funnels, sep columns and tanks of nitrogen and helium, under red- and yellow-spectrum lights, tinkering with LSD formulas, until he came up with a new analogue that has interesting effects. All the Tea Party crowd takes it constantly. It’s also mixed into the sacraments at some churches, such as Westboro Baptist. The chemical shorthand for this new designer drug is TP-LSD. On the street it’s called simply, TEA.

When the rest of us note the sun setting, the TPers see dawnbreak. When we get wet in the rain, the TPers are slathering on the sunscreen, lest they get second-degree burns from the hot rays or skin cancer. TP-LSD shifts them into the “alternate universe” (you thought that only existed in comic books, right?) where everything is the opposite. It is all because of TEA, which is not yet illegal under the analogue act.

That’s why when the UN General Assembly drops something, TPers believe it has passed. And it’s why they view racial tolerance as racism, and it explains why they believe racism is the only “true” tolerance.

It’s all because of the TEA, man.

Somewhere, this is written down and detailed (in the fine print of Agenda 21). Ask any of them to show it to you.

Rumor Control: U.N. ATT and POA, Bad but Different

    Posted on September 21, 2012

The latest rumor making its way through the darker corners of the internet is an inaccurate spin on the U.N.’s never-ending mission to disarm the American people. The rumors vary, but some have wrongly claimed that the U.S. has secretly adopted a U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, subjecting Americans to the schemes of U.N. gun controllers.

    SNIP

The POA, on the other hand, is an attempt to create a voluntary international set of standards for the control of small arms. Under the program, states are encouraged to adopt these controls domestically and to report on their progress. Although many of the standards proposed in the POA process conflict with the rights of gun owners, the U.S. has participated in the discussions. However, no domestic legislation has been passed as a result. The POA is not an extension or alternative to the ATT.

Rumor mongers have treated the continued participation of the U.S. in the POA process as evidence that the U.S. has adopted the ATT or another mandatory U.N. gun control program. Continued participation in the POA is misguided and a long-term threat to gun owners, but is not connected to the signing or ratification of the ATT.

Leon and his cohorts like Frank and matt and pistol pete to name a few never let a little thing like facts get in their way. They are too busy parroting what they hear nfrom Hannity, and Limbaugh and what they get in emails from the right wing racist zealots. There are a couple of people who bombard my email with every insane far out thing about Obama that they can find. There is that active group that shares the same stories over and over about his upcoming attack on gun rights, about his removal of the flag from the oval office and his press conferences, his refusal to salute the flag or say the pledge of allegiance, his attrack on the national anthem, his new white house redecorating schemes which feature musdlim symbols, how he bowed down to the Saudi princes and apologized for America, how he’s half white and how his claims to be an African American are false because no part of his direct heritage has any African blood in it, all the birther nonsense and on and on and on. One of my favorites is the one that claims that Obamacare contains a provision that requires everyone who sels a home to pay a 3.9% tax on the sales price of the home. These people are racist, bigoted nuts and they will believe anything negative that they can find about the man and then they will set about spreading whatever lie it is to everybody they can get to read or listen to the garbage. And any attempt to teach them is like trying to convince a recalcitrant two year old to eat spinach. They are like the Romney campaign which declared that they weren’t going to let any fact checkers dictate their campaign. The hell with the truth. The truth will be what they say it is. Take it or leave it.

    LEON-
The United States can be spelled UNITED STATES without it being a corporation, the gold fringe on the flag of the United States does not mean maritime/admiralty/military law is the law of the room, the U.S. was never re-organized, not even under the 1878 D.C. organic act, the 4th edition of Black’s law dictionary does not include secret words about Roman law that magic-fy your name based upon how it is capitalized, the flag in a courtroom does not alter its constitutional jurisdiction, the 16th Amendment was validly passed, etc. etc.

@17 Dan Casey. I beg to differ with you on the origins of the “Tea”. You are giving them waaaay too much credit for using science to figure something out. I envision more of a Middle Ages type setup with a large bubbling caldron. It’s not the “race card” if it’s accurate, and I give you that nutjob out in Craig County as evidence. A huge part of the hysteria engendered by Obama’s presidency is rooted in the fact that he’s (gasp) a black guy. To deny it is either willful stupidity or epic denial. They’re equally likely.

Why the TV station felt it necessary to give him air time escapes me, unless they have some unstated goal of making Roanoke appear even more backwater, nutty, and regressive to the outside world than it already does.

Well, Kristen, you answer your own question. The TV station, all of it’s employees, owners, and anyone who watches the station are all racist pigs. You got it.

“A huge part of the hysteria engendered by Obama’s presidency is rooted in the fact that he’s (gasp) a black guy.”

Sure Kristen, it has nothing to do with his failed economic policies, failed foreign policies, broken promises, class warfare, and on and on. And if you believe Joe Biden, the middle class has been buried under Obama the last four years. Yep! But, you are right. None of that matters. It’s all just racism. Lol. Pathetic.

  31. VVArlock | October 3, 2012 at 1:44 pm

    Leon –

Did you read the article or just the headline. The UN did not approve any treaty. The Review Committee expressed a renewed commitment and adopted an outcome document – basically the committee expressed to the UN how important the review committee was.

There was no UN vote. There is nothing ‘passing the UN’.
“Member States renewed their pledge to rid the world of the scourge brought upon it by … small arms and light weapons”
    Nothing more.

The headline is a lie. The article proves it.

  33. Will | October 3, 2012 at 2:53 pm

    Hey Kristen (and others)
Is this guy a racist too?
Have you seen the video from Bishop E.W. Jackson? Check it out on You Tube

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oi_KaZ53eDg

Here is part of what he said but you really ought to watch the video

“They have insulted us, used us, and manipulated us. They have saturated the black community with ridiculous lies,” he said, speaking directly to the black community. ”They think we are stupid and that these lies will hold us captive while they violate everything we believe as Christians.”

Jackson went into detail in the video, taking aim at the “unholy alliance” that he sees between Democrats, faux-civil rights leaders and Planned Parenthood.

“The Democratic Party has created an unholy alliance between certain so-called civil rights leaders and Planned Parenthood, which has killed unborn black babies by the tens of millions,” he proclaimed.

On the morality front, Jackson took issue with the party’s internal debate over “God” being dropped from its platform and derided the notion that homosexuality should be equated “with being black.“ He called the later tenet of the Democratic Party an ”outrageous lie.”

“We as Christians ought to know better. Shame on us for allowing ourselves to be sold to the highest bidder,” Jackson continued, telling his fellow black pastors that they, too, would need to make a decision between supporting Democrats and embracing Jesus.

  34. Will | October 3, 2012 at 3:03 pm

Bishop Jackson is speaking the truth. Are you going to call him a “racist zealot” Dave?
And go ahead with the name-calling, it’s what progressive liberals do when they can’t win the argument.

    Comment by matt

matt, I see you were too busy gearing up to get your prized masters degree four years ago to notice, but much of the loony stuff about Obama was already in the air then, BEFORE HE HAD EVER INFLUENCED FEDERAL POLICY. It was a combination of latent racism by some, and a cynical manipulation by others of some people’s shock that a person less provincial than them, darker than them, and more progressive than them had been elected. All in an attempt to de-legitimize his presidency from the outset. And it is behind many of the claims that still occur, like the alleged mass conspiracy by competitor polling firms to present false results.

So, no, it’s not always latent racism (and occasionally overt racism). The rest of those who traffic in Obama Derangement Syndrome are either manipulators or the manipulated.

  40. dave | October 3, 2012 at 4:40 pm

You keep dealing them and we’ll keep playing them. That’s full half of the RW TPers deck.

Bishop Jackson is an opportunist who figured out a way to ingratiate himself with radical white audiences and reap huge benefits by charging big speaking fees and selling videos and tapes. He toopk the Newt Gingrich business model and applied it to turn himself into a millionaire.

  41. VVArlock | October 3, 2012 at 4:53 pm

    Will
It would take a constitutional amendment to allow treaties to change the constitution or to allow this act to strip our 2nd Amendment rights.

Either way SCOTUS would almost certainly invalidate the new amendment as conflicting with just about every other portion of the constitution. If it changes the 2nd, then the 9th still guarantees us the right to possess weapons or the 10th still allows states the right to decide. This would and can never fly.
No state legislature would allow it, Congress will never approve this treaty, the Dems are too cowardly to push for the things they care about that there is strong support for, they know that touching the 2nd is suicide.

    AND –
In the insanely unlikely event this passes – we revolt. Full on Revolutionary War II style. So, for now, stay calm and buy ammo.

Snopes.com has an extensive inventory of all the Obama smears that have been put out there. Coincidentally, I was perusing those last night. They include:\

1.Obama directed $17 million in stimulus money to save his brother-in-law’ job as basketball coach at Oregon State.

    2. Obama wants to change the national anthem to “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing.”

    3. Obama had thousands of dollars worth of lobsters flown into Bozeman, Mt., for a big feed after a town hall style meeting there.

    4. In violation of the constitution, Obama refused to put his right hand over his heart while the national anthem is played, he refuses to say the pledge of allegiance, he salutes the flag with his left hand etc. etc. etc.\

    5. He filed a lawsuit against banks to force them to make loans to poor people.

The above merely scratches the surface. It’s worth looking through.
