The pretty pictures cannot make up for this place being awash in depraved posters.

And in the hours before the foreign policy debate:

The Al-Monitor is a Middle East Newspaper which interviewed Efraim Halevy who was chief of the Israeli intelligence service, the Mossad.

Al-Monitor: “Many observers believe there is a nuclear deal to be had. But it’s very hard to do, to even talk to them. Do you think it’s possible to narrow the huge gulf between the two sides?”

Halvey: [...] “Negotiating with Iran is perceived as a sign of beginning to forsake Israel. That is where I think the basic difference is between Romney and Obama. What Romney is doing is mortally destroying any chance of a resolution without war. Therefore when [he recently] said, he doesn’t think there should be a war with Iran, this does not ring true. It is not consistent with other things he has said. […]

Does this portend Nov 6th? Bwahahahahaha

    Romney Blimp Goes Limp
“An airship promoting Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in Florida drew attention for other reasons Sunday when it was forced to make an emergency landing just north of Miami.

According to WSVN-TV, the blimp, bearing the banner, “America Needs Romney,” was caught in high winds on its way back to a local airport, forcing it to the ground near a residential area in Davie, Florida.”

Sandi: It’s not all bad. Here’s a useless anecdote:

I had a marvelous weekend, free of politics and drama. I exploited some child labor (the kids raked the yard), allowed them to play in filthy, spider- and bacteria-infested pits (jumping in the leaf pile – their dad won’t let them “get all dirty”), let them touch and help rescue their first snake (a 2-foot garter snake caught by the cats) and, as any good arsonist would do, taught them how to properly build fires.

We cracked jokes about Justin Beiber at the eldest’s expense and then all ganged up on Mommy, teaching the children valuable lessons about exploiting another’s weaknesses and faults as a group.

I tucked them in each night with threats of severe physical violence if they didn’t behave in their dreams. I was properly greeted with eye rolls and laughs.

Oh yes… The commie, pinko, socialist, Marxist, welfare-sponging, fat, dog, liberal children of the future are being taught well and true to the ways of our godless agenda.

“No media bias here…what a joke.”

So we have a charge of media bias laid on a beautiful fall foliage photo with a quote about nature. It’s simply amazing the things some of you folks perceive bias in. It leaves me wondering how skewed the rest of your perceptions are.

What is the problem? There’s too much blue in the sky?

  14. pistol pete | October 22, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Dan, check out my link about Fluky speaking to a massive crowd of TEN people that a newspaper decided to cover.

I love the fall pictures. I tweeted one last night i took beside my house that got ‘retweeted’ and ‘favorated’.

I hope these polls aren’t making you a little edgy or anything.

  15. Marked Man | October 22, 2012 at 1:46 pm

Shrillary, on another thread you stated (or copied and pasted an email you received from some most ill-informed penpals) that Steve Forbes Jr. was raised in a single parent home.

I was hoping you would tell us more about that exactly…

  16. terps | October 22, 2012 at 2:10 pm

Looks like all of the libs on the blog are getting cranky. I looked far and wide for a national poll today with Obama leading. I couldn’t find one. Can some of you libs help me out?

  17. gdad | October 22, 2012 at 2:16 pm

#13 I think PP was talking about the story he linked to.

  18. Dan Casey | October 22, 2012 at 2:24 pm

    PP,

Fyi, we here at the paper are whizzes. But even we don’t necessarily know in advance how many people will or will not show up at an event such as Fluke’s appearance.

There is no question but that she was a big newsmaker earlier this year, when Republicans in Congress tried to shut her up, and after Rush Limbaugh publicly tarnished the previously unheard of law student as a “a slut” and “a prostitute.”

Heck, even Fox News covered her appearance, right?

  19. gdad | October 22, 2012 at 2:28 pm

I noticed a Facebook entry today from the RT asking if folks had witnessed or knew about any campaign sign defacing. It was accompanied by a pic of a torn Obama sign. Reminded me that just the other day I was talking to a family member who lives at Brandon Oaks and I commented on the numerous campaign stickers and signs outside apartment doors (folks decorate their doors, corner shelves next to the door, or floor areas outside the door), particularly the number of Obama signs (obviously there were Romney signs as well). She told me that there’s been quite a problem with people taking and trashing the Obama signs, so much so that one resident put a sign next to her Obama poster imploring others not to steal it!

Can’t get away from it even at a retirement community.

  20. Suzie | October 22, 2012 at 2:28 pm

TEN people to see Fluke? LOL. LOL. LOL. Damn, I wish I’d gone and heckled the hell out of her. Nobody would have been around to stop it.

  21. gdad | October 22, 2012 at 2:31 pm

#15 MMM, still waiting for you to show me where I ever argued tooth and nail with John W about concealed carry — or even argued tooth and nail about CC at all.

  22. Other John | October 22, 2012 at 2:39 pm

Some small GOP signs were placed at the entrance to my community, and a couple days later, signs for the Democrats also appeared. Not long after that, the large Obama sign went missing…then the small Romney sign. The Romney sign was replaced, as was the Obama sign. Nothing appears to have happened to the signs for Kaine, Flaccavento, Griffith, or Allen. Regardless, I won’t put any campaign signs in my yard, or stickers on my cars. We had a bad experience years ago (I was still a kid) with a bumper sticker (non-political) on my dad’s truck, and his window got smashed while we were at Busch Gardens.

  23. pistol pete | October 22, 2012 at 2:39 pm

gdad, Where I am at, it has been mostly republican signs being trashed and stolen. Del Habeeb had some pics of signs destroyed on his twitter or facebook. It goes both ways.

  24. Marked Man | October 22, 2012 at 2:40 pm

Perhaps the obama sign just wasn’t very well made.

  25. Marked Man | October 22, 2012 at 2:45 pm

Okay gdad, I am composing all your posts chronologically where you had something negative to say about CC. Then, I will asterisk the ones that were responses to other people’s posts about CC. I will print them on high-gloss paper suitable for framing. I will let you know when I have those together. Please do not forget to remind me to show them to you. Do not and I repeat do not lose any sleep over not having them yet. That would be disastrous to your health. Should be about 3 weeks or so I would say at the very least…

  26. Kristen | October 22, 2012 at 2:45 pm

“Fluky”? Seriously? The average intellectual age of the right on here is about 12.

So Habeeb had some Romney signs on his Facebook page and they were destroyed? How? Did his page get hacked?

  31. Kristen | October 22, 2012 at 3:10 pm

It’s always sad when women in their “golden years” display jealousy of their professional, younger, and more attractive sisters. Sad sad sad. I guess an avatar can only go so far.

  32. Lynda K | October 22, 2012 at 3:14 pm

If Romney doesn’t win Virginia, it won’t be for lack of signage. I made a trip to Southern Maryland this past weekend – traveling along Rt 29 – and the only signs I saw between here and there were for Romney. Oh… I did see one homemade Obama sign, but that was it… Honestly, I am barely exaggerating.

  33. Shrillary | October 22, 2012 at 3:32 pm

Judge Questions Tools Used to Track Cell Phones

    By Jennifer Valentino-DeVries

A judge in Texas is raising questions about whether investigators are giving courts enough details on technological tools that let them get data on all the cellphones in an area, including those of innocent people.

    SNIP

Among the judge’s biggest concerns: that the agents and U.S. attorneys making the requests didn’t provide details on how the tools worked or would be used — and even seemed to have trouble explaining the technology.

“Without such an understanding, they cannot appreciate the constitutional implications of their requests,” Magistrate Judge Brian Owsley wrote in an order last month, adding the government was essentially asking him to allow “a very broad and invasive search affecting likely hundreds of individuals in violation of the Fourth Amendment.”

    SNIP

I hope this or other cases on this issue make it to SCOTUS.

  38. Debbie | October 22, 2012 at 4:47 pm

Kristen, some of the posters on here always bring this thought to mind, for me. When they handed out brains, they thought they said trains and headed for the station. That depot was packed.

  39. E. Duane | October 22, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Oh, the Vivid hues of this campaign….the colorful comments are awash in hues one could not even come up with a name for them…….Interesting, my photo has the two colors that people will be talking about the most on Nov. 6th & 7th. Red and Blue…Then all the talking heads will start speculating about 2016. Read a post from a lady who suggested that maybe we should elect our president for eight years….? You think that would help any with the two parties coming together in figuring they’d better agree on something for the good of the country as opposed to worrying about the next election?

  40. Lake Claytor | October 22, 2012 at 4:53 pm

The news on Fluke was that 10 people showed up.

    Poor Fluke.

  41. Dan Casey | October 22, 2012 at 5:03 pm

    E. Duane, thank you for the picture!

  42. Shrillary | October 22, 2012 at 5:14 pm

Sorry MM – didn’t see your post.

Steve Forbes was listed on the famous people of single parents website… he obviously wasn’t raised by a single parent, but he is listed as a famous son of a “gay” parent – not that this would be relevant – I think he must have been placed on the both lists , one by mistake.
Malcolm Stevenson “Steve” Forbes Jr. born July 18, 1947, is the son of gay father Malcolm Stevenson Forbes Sr. http://gaylife.about.com/od/gayparentingadoptio1/tp/kidsoffamousgays.htm

Glad you fact checked…thanks. I never mind having someone give me new info.

  47. Suzie | October 22, 2012 at 8:57 pm

I notice the little bedwetter Nate Silver is moaning about the “outlier” Gallup Poll because it screws up his biased left-leaning “model”, but he has no similar complaints about the IBD/Tipp poll which has been equally skewed in the other direction. They must be doing some pretty serious narcotics up there at the NYT because Nate still claims 0bummer has a 67% chance of winning despite Romney’s surging lead.

Silver got his gig because of his gutsy 0bama prediction in ’08. He then got waxed in 2010, missing the GOP tidal wave. But the Times isn’t financing his pimple medicine because he’s right. Like with Krugman and Brookes they’re paying him to be a leftwng parrot with an objective veneer.

  48. gdad | October 22, 2012 at 10:57 pm

#36 Obviously, MMM, you’re ignoring my demand that you produce proof for your assertion that I argue tooth and nail with John W about concealed carry. This, of course, is because it was a lie.

I was going to let this lie pass by without more comment, but since you’ve returned to your annoyingly juvenile stalking habits, I really had little choice.

  49. gdad | October 22, 2012 at 11:17 pm

Envelope from the Tea Party “Patriots” in the mail today. Wrote “refused” and “return” on it and put it back in the mailbox.

It’s okay gdad, I almost have your list suitable for framing ready for you to pick up when you meet me to show me how much better you are at swimming, basketball, cycling, baseball, etc. like you claimed to be.

Let me know when you are ready to get yours…

  51. Marked Man | October 23, 2012 at 12:30 am

BTW, gdad, I said I would provide proof. Ask me again in 3 weeks like I said. Set your calendar to remind you.

  52. Marked Man | October 23, 2012 at 12:31 am

You’re welcome, Shrillary. I just wanted to make sure you knew the lists you copy and paste are sometimes not accurate in the very least.

  53. Suzie | October 23, 2012 at 7:11 am

    Susie,
Interesting…..and what about Roanoke city itself….I’ve never seen such a lack of signs period…..Why is this? My thought people are embarrassed to let their neighbors know who they support…LOL

I fully agree, Duane. I think a lot of people are embarrassed they got had last time.

  54. Debbie | October 23, 2012 at 8:07 am

Yo Frank, when I read this morning about the tweet that Todd Akins assistant sent, I could just see you spitting out your coffee/Red Bull, whatever the heck it is that you appear to drink by the gallon, while you were laughing. Any woman who would vote for that neanderthal has no self respect at all.

  55. Sandi Saunders | October 23, 2012 at 8:14 am

Yeah Shrillary, you should just lie in wait and attack others for what they say, rather than try to add any substantive discussion to the blog. Get with it girl!

  56. gdad | October 23, 2012 at 9:56 am

#25 That won’t do at all, MMM. We’ll just have to assume you’ve been lying again.

  57. Marked Man | October 23, 2012 at 11:42 am

Oh, so you don’t want it that bad I guess.

#44 suz posted the following neck puke upon the internets; “I know what you mean, Lynda K. We drove through towns in western Pennsylvania union country this past weekend, and I was shocked at the large number of Romney signs and the paucity of 0bama signs.”
    Comment by Suzie — October 22, 2012 @ 5:35 pm

    Interesting; You traveled to PA but still somehow posted on Sat at 10:01, 11:53, 4:47, 6:33, 6:52, 7:09, 7:27, 7:28, 7:29 7:45, 7:47, 7:49, 7:52, 8:10, and then Sun at 8:05, 8:07, 11:04, 11:49, 11:52, 12:04, 6:08, 7:07 and wrapped up your afternoon in hubby’s time machine at 7:10.

Classic. No wonder nobody takes this idiot seriously anymore; she even forgetting how to tell a simple lie now. Sad.

  59. Marked Man | October 24, 2012 at 11:07 pm

Steve C, I can post to this blog while away from home…

  60. Steve C | October 25, 2012 at 7:48 am

Not the point Mark. I, too, can post from my blackberry, but anybody that would post 22 times from their phone in a weekend out-of-town is seriously in need of a life. Which brings us to the real issue; suz used to give Kristin a hard time for commenting once or twice a day while at the beach with her family but she can’t take a two day road trip w/o carpet bombing the blog? I’m a little busy with work, Mark, but if you get a chance can you ask suz why spending time with hubby is so monotonous she has to spend the whole time polluting the blog with her nonsense instead of enjoying her time out of town with him?

  61. Marked Man | October 25, 2012 at 9:31 am

Unfortunately, Steve, I’m a lot busy with work. Maybe you could get gdad on it? Word has it he was formerly employed as a reporter. Bonus for you, gdad knows suz’s schedule fairly well I bet… maybe not as well as your analysis above, but hey, give the boy a chance. Some rag paper did years ago.
