Get campaign garbage out of her newspaper delivery tube

Good morning, Dan!

As a former circulation guy, you know that our newspaper delivery tubes aren’t to be used by others. However, when I went out to get my paper this morning, inside, along with the paper, was an elaborate, virulent anti-Obama booklet titled “Unfit to Rule,” published by One Nation Under God Radio.

This is way more than the basic campaign ad. It’s a treatise comparing Obama to King George III and including text of the Declaration of Independence at the end. I wish I had time today to bring it downtown.

Ask around and see whether anyone else has received it. It’s a 32-page 5×7 booklet with a slick blue cover. Most offensive, particularly because it arrived in my newspaper tube.

I have no reason to believe that my carriers, who have been most responsible over many years, would have placed it there, but I have no way of knowing. I live on Nelms Lane in northeast Roanoke.

Use this info as you like.

Best regards,

Beth

We should hook up Beth with Jack!

  2. Jack | October 25, 2012 at 1:39 pm

Yeah, well, my yard isn’t supposed to be used for the newspapers, either, but the Roanoke Times doesn’t care.

  3. dobbs | October 25, 2012 at 1:40 pm

Fuuny, it took 3 calls to the Roanoke Times to get my carrier to put my NEWSPAPER in my newspaper tube!

  4. LB Hagen | October 25, 2012 at 2:17 pm

Dan – your “tricksters” article today on Pg 10 was super-heavy on blasting Republicans as the bad-guys on voter fraud.
Interesting you missed the RT Pg 18 voter fraud article that VA DEMOCRAT Congressman Jim Moran’s son was just forced to quit his father’s campaign. He was caught on video discussing a proposed 100 vote fraud.
Perhaps you can expand and enrich your “tricksters” article tomorrow!

Jack, are you still getting unwanted deliveries? Keith Liles told me personally that he had entered your address onto the do-not-deliver list.

  6. Dan Casey | October 25, 2012 at 4:14 pm

Lars Hagen it will be fun to toss a few back with you on Christmas and discuss this further. But there are a couple of reasons why I quite properly ignored that silly stunt by the criminal O’Keefe.

    1. It was not voter fraud. It WAS, at the worst, a theoretical discussion prompted and promoted by a dirty trickster who was intent on entrapping Moran’s son. What the criminal O’Keefe doesn’t tell you is how many hundreds of Democratic volunteers or operatives like Moran’s son they have to video before they find a single one who gets suckered by their slimy pitch like Moran’s son did. So, NO crime in NoVa — meanwhile the dude in Harrisonburg was charged with A DOZEN. (I’m sure O’Keefe is envious).

    2. It did not involve my daughter, and it was not around here, and thus, as my supporter BobH would tell you, it was not “metro enough” for a “metro” columnist.

So next time you should check with BobH before you level such a criticism.

    See you Dec. 25!

  7. Jack | October 25, 2012 at 4:47 pm

    Dan,

None so far. However, as the wife just reminded me, we haven’t had any delivered at all to the neighborhood lately. So we’re still waiting to see.

  8. dave | October 25, 2012 at 5:21 pm

    Dan

LB Hagen is promoting his sickly little blog again. This is your blog to do with as you please. If it were me, I’d trash any posts he sends with a link to his piece of trash. If he wan6s a dialogue, let him start accepting one on his blog.

  9. Frank | October 25, 2012 at 7:54 pm

    hey dano,

    wouldn’t Moron’s proper response to o’keefe have been, “i don’t know what you’re talking about. Dems don’t cheat”…

  10. Dan Casey | October 25, 2012 at 9:56 pm

Note, please, that Lars Hagen hasn’t responded to my outline breaking down the difference between the crimes Colin Small is charged with and the stunt that the criminal James O’Keefe pulled.

That’s because Lars knows my analysis is correct.

  11. dave | October 25, 2012 at 10:08 pm

Lars just dropped by to try to drag some unfortunate soul over to read his drivel.

  12. J.M.White | October 25, 2012 at 10:10 pm

I like that Dan allows Mr. Hagen to post here. He’s not really interested in a dialogue; he just wants to pop off a blather, pimp his desert wasteland of a blog and scurry away.

Dan is nice enough to throw him a bone and maybe a click or two. If he lets people like Suzie post here, Mr. Hagen is but a mere triviality.

  13. Sandi Saunders | October 26, 2012 at 8:22 am

Serious question to my friends here on the left (or in the middle), do you go to right wing leaning sites, blogs or media venues and do what ‘the right’ does here?

  14. Dan Casey | October 26, 2012 at 9:44 am

I go to RW sites every day. This is on the only place I spent time commenting.

  15. Debbie | October 26, 2012 at 9:52 am

In answer to your question, Sandi, no I don’t. I have no desire to do so.

  16. Other John | October 26, 2012 at 9:54 am

Sandi, I do not. And, I also do not go to LW sites either. I do follow a couple groups and people on Twitter and Facebook (liberal, libertarian, and a couple conservatives too), but I don’t go through their timelines or comment often. To be honest, I have better things to do. But every so often, there’s something worthy of reading and digging into that I take a closer look at.

  17. Kristen | October 26, 2012 at 10:20 am

I don’t go to either RW or LW sites, and I don’t consider this one to be either. Anything I know about Daily Kos or DemocraticUnderground, I learn here.

  18. Uptheriver | October 26, 2012 at 10:29 am

Sandi, this is a community blog on a community newspaper site, not a left wing or right wing blog. Rants and raves welcome from any and all.

  19. Contrasuzie | October 26, 2012 at 10:30 am

Sandi, no I don’t go to rightwing sites and comment, politely or impolitely. I do get notifications from our Attorney General in my Facebook newsfeed because I ‘liked’ his page, but I never comment on his posts. I just wanted to get info straight from him, although lately, the ‘info’ is just campaign postings for Romney. I also like to laugh at the people who post things like, ‘I love you, Ken! Please come to ___________ so i can meet you!’ on his page, like he’s Justin Bieber or somebody.

  20. Sandi Saunders | October 26, 2012 at 10:41 am

Yes, I go to the sites sometimes too, but I do not “participate” and insult, bait, troll or annoy them. I do not “get” the point of doing so. It seems to be the sport of the right wing, but I have yet to meet a liberal or Democrat who does the same, so I cannot understand the attraction.

They don’t, by any means, only do it here either. It is as if it was a mission given out by the high priest of hate or something. You see it on just about every progressive or liberal site that does not screen comments.

If you think a group of people, a writer, or a site is some vile, den of vipers, why would you crawl into it? Do you think they believe they are helping their cause? Really? Do you think they are just bullies and this is somehow entertaining? It is like the hecklers who ruin a show or ill-mannered children who interrupt adult conversations. Some have even confessed to being older, and yet they act like spoiled brats at a gathering of people. WTF?

Do you think they act like that all the time? What kind of life creates that?

  21. Marked Man | October 26, 2012 at 10:48 am

Easy, Dan. Bringing up a question you asked on another thread will make gdad call you a ‘stalker’. Ooooohhhhhh!!

  22. Marked Man | October 26, 2012 at 10:50 am

dave et al need to realize that the Roanoke Times actually has a link to Lars website on their own blog page.

You did know that didn’t you, dave???

  23. Dan Casey | October 26, 2012 at 10:56 am

“dave et al need to realize that the Roanoke Times actually has a link to Lars website on their own blog page. “

Yeah, and Lars’s blog is 100 percent accurately named, The Roanoke Slant.

  24. Marked Man | October 26, 2012 at 11:01 am

I never saw dave ripping into Lindsey Nair for talking about her blog here a couple of times or laying into A-Mac for doing the same.

Methinks the poor little darling dave doesn’t like the content of Lars so he wants you to do something about it Dan!!

  25. Kristen | October 26, 2012 at 11:36 am

Lars blog has no content, no comments, no traffic. Comparing his to the sports or food blogs on here is hilarious.
Plus, Lindsey and the sports guy don’t need to post links to their blog…we all already know them.

  26. Marked Man | October 26, 2012 at 12:01 pm

Lindsey posted a link to her blog once on here.

  27. Debbie | October 26, 2012 at 12:14 pm

#17 Ditto, Kristen. I’d never heard of either site until I read about them on here. I don’t visit LW or RW sites.

  28. dave | October 26, 2012 at 12:43 pm

    Sandi

I visit right wing sites when one of the bat guano crazy bloggers here posts a link just to see what kind of fertilizer they are speading today. And once in a while I’ll visit one to research what the craziness of the day is. But I never comment on them. The only right wing site that I comment to are my responses to Bob Goodlatte’s weekly propaganda documents. Sometimes I just can’t let those pass without a reply.

  29. Sandi Saunders | October 26, 2012 at 12:44 pm

And just look at how one section of the community treats the other…If you don’t like it, or the people who do…don’t come in here with your hate, lies and bitter whining! Is that really so hard? Even if Lars had comments, I would not go there. So little of the hate here has ANYTHING to do with the community, and everything to do with whiny, spoiled bullies who want their way, or else.

  30. Sandi Saunders | October 26, 2012 at 12:54 pm

Dan’s Blog says: “Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn’t keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!

He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He’ll read all your posts and may or may not respond.

Nothing in there says ‘come on in and lie, insult, denigrate and whine’. Ranting and raving can be done without the rancor and bitter lying bile that the right wingers bring daily. You cannot joke with hate, you cannot see the POV of bile, you cannot understand where lies, distortions and memes facilitate a conversation. Almost all of the right wingers come here for nothing other than slamming Dan, the columns, the blogs, the paper or those who disagree with their mindset. Some, literally pop in for a quick insult and then offer nothing. Most, never offer anything thoughtful, insightful or even mostly true!

FGS, stop acting like this freakish hate fest is some kind of communication or community site! I see you people in this community daily, almost NO ONE in Roanoke actually talks or acts like you people do. Seriously, does anything penetrate the hate?

  31. Rob Thommins | October 26, 2012 at 2:09 pm

“Nothing in there says ‘come on in and lie, insult, denigrate and whine’. Ranting and raving can be done without the rancor and bitter lying bile that the right wingers bring daily.”

    Such frustration.

  32. Sandi Saunders | October 26, 2012 at 6:06 pm

I am frustrated Rob Thommins. I am sick and tired of coming to a favorite blog and seeing all the trashy folks who are taking advantage of the chance to vent their spleen and spread their lies. Enough!

  33. Debbie | October 26, 2012 at 6:15 pm

    You’re not alone, Sandi.

  34. Debbie | October 26, 2012 at 6:16 pm

Will the block comments feature go into effect next year, Dan?

  35. Shrillary | October 26, 2012 at 6:49 pm

Sandi – I look at the RW sites Red State and Free Republic among others a few times a month – all that is necessary to anticipate what the RWers here on Dan’s Blog are going to bring with their “hair on fire” dance and fake outrage.

When it was all over RW blogs and parroted about Eliz Warren and the whole Indian meme, yep, that was what was being blogged and spread on the RW blogs. The whole faux birth certificate meme, yep, it was also all over those sites as was
the Benghazi conspiracy/cover-up baloney…[still reflected on this blog]

The newest meme is picked up by RW media [limbaugh, Faux News et al] then regurgitated by the RW blogging sites and vomited all over Dan’s blog. The same hateful, lie-filled and ugly name calling starts out there and lands here – often using the exact language as on RW blogging sites…those blogs are heavily monitored and I think it was Free Republic that would purge any blogger who said anything positive about President Obama…they all sound insane.

The words retard, moron, obuma, communist, socialist, fascist bammy, repeated endlessly…
I am a believer in the old adage “know your enemy”…so I look in on them, and then do an eye-wash.

  36. Frank | October 26, 2012 at 6:52 pm

    sandi, for goodness sakes,

if you really feel THAT way, stop re-reading your posts!

  37. Dan Casey | October 26, 2012 at 7:26 pm

“Will the block comments feature go into effect next year, Dan?”

God I hope so. But I’m not sure.

    Comment by Sandi Saunders — October 26, 2012 @ 10:41 am

Funny thing. Those on the right, in general, have the same perception of
    those on the left.

The faults we see in others are, more often than not, our own.

However, IMO, the differences in the various news sources due to the journalism profession’s adoption of bias as an acceptable concept is irresponsible and divisive. Dan Rather seemed to be a turning point with
the major networks and wire services. The internet spawned a slew of news type websites but a great many of them carried the bias OK concept into the new media such that there seems to be spin everywhere; left and right.

Honesty is the best of policies and if applied as a concept instead of bia is OK. . .the general public would be less confused, frustrated and
angry. Alas, trust, once violated, is difficult to regain. Therefore, we
seem to be stuck with news we can’t trust both from the standpoint of what is written or not written and, thus, we are divided.

  39. Suzie | October 26, 2012 at 7:32 pm

don’t go to either RW or LW sites, and I don’t consider this one to be either.

Yeah, Dan is right down the middle.
