Obama signs are being destroyed in Raleigh Court, she writes

Dan,

I enjoy your column as you often have a fresh viewpoint that creates much interest–at least for me.

As a veteran, woman, age 89, and a retired administrator with the Roanoke City Public Schools, I must choose Obama — and I do so with real enthusiasm.  You may well use this information, but please do not publish my full name.

Obama signs are being torn down and destroyed all over town and I’m in no condition to protect myself. My son and daughter-in-law live on Avenham and their Obama sign has been destroyed twice.

Presently, they are trying to repair the one that was slashed, frame bent, etc. and thrown in the street–this was a replacement sign after the first one was destroyed. Kaine signs in same yard remain OK.

I saw a couple Obama signs on Avenham that had been bent.

That just goes to show you how petty Romney supporters are and how far they have to stoop for votes.

There is one sign in particular, that I would like to destroy…
It’s the anti-Obama sign that includes the word “NOPE” with a moon and star inside the Obama designed “O” – indicating Islam. (Link to image below.)
What kind of misinformed, bigoted, jerk displays something like that?

lynda k, you should be ashamed of yourself. you accuse romney supporters of destroying signs for votes. on the other hand you would destroy another persons sign. what a hypocrite!

  5. Kristen | October 29, 2012 at 3:06 pm

steve, you’re confused. A) LyndaK hasn’t accused anyone of destroying signs. The OP did. And LyndaK hasn’t actually touched anyone else’s sign, unlike those who destroyed the Obama signs on Avenham.

    Reading. Comprehension.

VDOT mowed for the last time about 2 weeks ago. There were three Democrat’s signs in the grass along the property line of a neighbor. You could clearly see the signs in for quite a distance and could easily be avoided. The VDOT guy on the mower guy rolled right over the signs [I presume with his tires, not the mower blades] and crushed them…Unless he was a blind man, it was purposeful.

    Thank you, Kristen.
Like she said, steve… I didn’t say I had, was intending to, or did destroy anything.
I would LIKE to… but I wouldn’t… Kind of like when you want to punch some idiot in the face for just being an idiot… but you don’t, because you have self-control, and respect. Right?

Thru the years I have had many signs destroyed or taken. I know of cars that have been vandalized because of support stickers. I read, last week, of a Romney 4/8 being set on fire.
It is wrong, petty, childish and illegal for anyone from any party to act in this manner.

Sadly, as the saying goes, you can’t fix stupid.

I saw a photo on Facebook of a handmade Obama/Biden sign in the Hollins area that had been defaced with NSFW graffiti. People make me sick.

Hey Dan! What’s up with the DMV being closed today? School is in session, there is obviously no threat to school children. Why would DMV personnel need to stay home? I wonder if they got paid….

  11. Dan Casey | October 29, 2012 at 5:55 pm

    lisa2,

Last night around 9:30, the governor closed state agencies. After which most of the state universities, including Va Tech, announced they were cancelling classes. After which, the governor issued a clarifying order that universities had the option to stay open. Tech remained open, but others — such as UVa and JMU — did not.

The DMV did not have the option.

  12. mike O | October 29, 2012 at 7:25 pm

Tech did not have to worry about power outages because they have their own coal fired “dirty power plant” that allows them to teach when others can not…lol

    From the letter:

“As a veteran, woman, age 89, and a retired administrator with the Roanoke City Public Schools, I must choose Obama…” In the next sentence,”Obama signs are being torn down and destroyed all over town and I’m in no condition to protect myself.”

So let’s vote for the guy who wants to ban the things you need to protect yourself?????

I looked at a Glock for sale today and saw “For Government/Law Enforcement Only” stamped into its original, standard-capacity magazine. For a minute, I wondered what was up with that, but then I quickly realized that it was a relic of the “assault weapon ban” which Obama has said he wants to reinstate in no uncertain terms. It’s not just the scary-looking guns, folks.

    Shrillary:

“The VDOT guy on the mower guy rolled right over the signs [I presume with his tires, not the mower blades] and crushed them…Unless he was a blind man, it was purposeful.”

I can tell you this for sure; when VDOT mows, they couldn’t care less about running over our real estate directional signs. I and many other companies have had them mangled! It’s not just Obama signs; it’s everything. Of course, people shouldn’t put signs in the unpaved part of the road right of ways in the first place. That would solve the problem.

kristen, read lynda k’s first comment. reading and comprehension is very important here.

  15. gdad | October 29, 2012 at 10:06 pm

#12 Uh, mike O, Tech generally keeps its POWER because its electric lines are buried underground, not because it has a coal plant. The coal plant provides heat. Tech’s power comes from a wholesale contract with Apco.

    Care to try again?

Sandy took one of my Romney signs last night.

  17. Shrillary | October 30, 2012 at 9:25 am

John Wilburn – there are actually a few real estate signs in the same general area for some subdivided land – they are still there and were untouched by the mowers…The Democratic signs were on the property line of the owners 5acre lot, not in the right away…

  18. Dan Casey | October 30, 2012 at 10:35 am

“Sandy took one of my Romney signs last night.”

    Sandi Saunders, how dare you?
