During school, on the Monday OPEN thread
“A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side.”
Aristotle

Nice to live in a secular society where I do not have to worry overmuch about my children being indoctrinated by school officials. They are free to learn about things we can determine are real.
Isn’t it interesting that we no longer continue to hear about those wanting to secede. Could the following petitions to the White House be the reasons?
☻PEACEFULLY GRANT THE CITY OF AUSTIN TEXAS TO WITHDRAW FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS & REMAIN PART OF THE UNITED STATES.
https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-city-austin-texas-withdraw-state-texas-remain-part-united-states/TDD212hQ
☻ALLOW THE CITY OF EL PASO TO SECEDE FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS. EL PASO IS TIRED OF BEING A SECOND CLASS CITY WITHIN TEXAS. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/allow-city-el-paso-secede-state-texas-el-paso-tired-being-second-class-city-within-texas/cGFvBF17
Now there are +25 million Texans – and it appears there are some who function in the real world…
☻PEACEFULLY GRANT THE CITY OF ATLANTA LEAVE TO WITHDRAW FROM THE STATE OF GEORGIA AND REMAIN PART OF THE UNITED STATES https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-city-atlanta-leave-withdraw-state-georgia-and-remain-part-united-states/Dldp5hKT
“I’m completely in favor of the
separation of Church and State.
… These two institutions screw us up enough
on their own, so both of them together is
certain death.”
― George Carlin
I find that sign to be an outrageous endorsement of polytheism!
Aristotle, was right on the nose on that one too!
Re: Mike Scott — November 26, 2012 @ 12:43 pm
Would not “No Gods [note the plural]” be an an outrageous attack on polytheism — i.e., the belief in or worship of more than one god?
Why would the plural “No Gods” be an endorsement?
@6…Well, I suppose it works both ways, but in culture where monotheism is overwhelming norm, I thought some might see the implicit acknowledgement of multiple supernatural beings as being contrary to scripture, thus blasphemy.
I would’ve thought that pic was a photoshop job (off the ‘net), but it says “shot by Dan”, so perhaps it’s both? Please tell us, and the location. Also, you’ve not told us the location of the bar ceiling shot in the open thread the other day. Unlike the U/U church with the ladder in the steeple pic that was easy to recognize, the best I could do on the bar shot was that it must be one of the Market area places, possibly the reopened Billy’s Ritz (I don’t know the current name of the place).
Warren,
I shot the picture Sunday over behind James Madison Middle School during an afternoon outing with Zach. Originally, the sign referred to DOGS, not GODS — so I had a little fun with it in MSpaint/Picasa.
The Friday pic shot inside a bar came from The Palms in Lexington, where Donna and I had a drink back in September.
Question:
Would the GOP do better / prefer to run in 2014 (or even in 2016):
a) against charges that their party of “no” sabotaged the economic recovery for political gain, or;
b) in the face of economic recovery and maybe United States returning to prosperity?

Poor oppressed Bob.
“sick feck”
Color me gobsmacked. I would never have reckoned pammala for a fan of “Father Ted.”
Here is a bit of good news and cause for optimism. In 2012, approximately 21% of eligible voters were age 18 – 29. Of that 21%, 19% voted. A very good sign that our young folks are engaged in the well-being of our country.
Pammala, the only people on this blog who have ever called Obama “our lord and savior” are rightwingers. They claim it’s what liberals believe, yet no liberal on here has ever made such a statement.
A tad more reality in the GOP ranks?

GOP Pollster: More Cellphones Needed in Surveys
By Shira Toeplitz Posted at 7:38 p.m. on Nov. 26
A top pollster to 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney said Republicans must include more cellphones, young and Hispanic voters in their surveys to achieve more accurate results, a costly venture.
Veteran GOP pollster Glen Bolger argued that the 20 percent sample of cellphone users was not enough.
“It will increase costs, but as a party we have no choice,” Bolger wrote on his website Monday.

The one saving grace I see should Susan Rice become Secretary of State will mean that Lurch isn’t.
Hey Laura, does “gobsmacked” have it’s origins in western PA?
#18 Indeed, Debbie. I don;t know a single person who voted for him who considers him lord and savior. Heck, most of the liberal folks on this vlog have called Obama out for stuff he has or hasn’t done. It’s just something else that ill people like pammalala have made up.
#15 Don’t you just feel so sorry for little Bobby Marshall?
#20 – Not according to any of my sources, Frank; they all say it originated in the UK.
If anything you tpubs are a great form of entertainment!
