Begin RANT! Climate Change: I can find as many “experts” that say man has no impact on the normal climate change of the planet as I can find blaming man and progress for cooling or warming of the planet. Frankly I don’t care either way. The world and everything in it is put here for our use. I’m certainly not going to alter my life style one bit. I will continue to drive my suburban, ride my BMW motorcycle, cook on my Big Green Egg, use paper products, burn light bulbs, and shot my guns. If the liberals don’t like it let them move to some socialist utopia where everyone rides bicycles, eats vegetables, and generally live very primitively to protect the “fragile” environment. No one will ever accuse me of being politically correct. End RANT!
That smile indicates that another tree hugging liberal idiot just showed his ignorance. Was he Al Gore or Biden’s son?
Well, yes, Michael. You probably can find as many “experts” who deny climate change is happening as the genuine experts who say it is. But if you look into the credentials of the “experts,” you’ll find very few who actually know anything about climate, and you’ll understand why putting the quote marks around “experts” in that context is such a good idea.
As for the rest of your rant, go right ahead. There’s very little we can do as individuals to change the course we’re on. It will take institutional, international, government action. If we don’t get that action, and very soon, the flooding of Manhattan and other coastal cities will become a routine and costly occurrence.
@1 – I’m sure your great-great-great grandchildren will thank you for being such a guilt free mega-consumer while they struggle for clean air and water to survive.
Michael, where would you find those “experts?”
On the golf course? In the duck blind?
Their problem Miriam
Like I said Dan R not going to change my life one bit. I really should not say that as I despise waste and littering. As I tell my boys when we hunt, if we kill it we eat it or give it to others that will. When we go into the field we leave it better than when we found it. When we cave dive we take nothing but pictures and leave noting but bubbles. As mentioned on an earlier blog I am a member of DU and support their conservation efforts 100%. I don’t buy into the politically correct green BS! And we do recycle.
@6 At least you are consistent.
I love the “U.S.A!” chants. It shows the mindset.
Pollution, filthy water and a myriad of new cancers for our grandchildren! F@#$ yeah!
The GOP should run this guy: http://bit.ly/PVrmB5
It’d get the same effect.
Michael Howdyshell, if you recycle and don’t litter, then you’re a commie. Welcome to the club!
USA! USA!
We don’t need no stinkin’ SCIENCE!
I could write a couple paragraphs on how personal conservation measures mean bupkus when commercial and industrial sectors only conserve for financial or public relations reasons, but why bother? The intended audience will never understand.
Though I find it amusing that people whine all the time about the economic uncertainty their children must face but not the environmental problems. I guess when future college students learn how to export underwater basket-weaving jobs overseas, they’ll have enough money to buy their own biodomes.
Thanks Dan when is the next meeting
I am sure Miriam shows great concern for great-great-great grandchildren when it comes to (supposed) Global Warming but in the same breath probably supports the liberals who have put us 16 trillion into debt TODAY (just how will those 3rd generation down the line grandchildren pay for all of this Miriam?).
Global Warming is a BELIEF just like any of the other ones out there. The Great Punpkin, the Wizard of Oz, or take your pick. People believe what they want and choose to believe.
I don’t have a problem with Global Warmer’s beliefs, it is when they try to pass it off as bona fide fact that they cross over the line.
What has been proven, is that Global Warmers DO have a political agenda, which is predicated upon creating this to be a crisis to many so that they can get their hands on grants and funding to study and fix the problem. Which, is a great trick if you can pull it off, con others into believing it, get the funding you seek, then solve it, get treated like a hero, and get paid for it at the same time- all when it was based on a belief and there was nothing to fix.
Follow the money. All of these “green” companies that the libs have used YOUR tax dollars on which have gone belly up- it is all about the money. They funnelled taxpayer $ back into the democrat hands. It ain’t about Global Warming. It is about THE MONEY. Not one of these “scientists” that espouse GW theories works for FREE.
Follow the money!
Michael, I think you should run down to the OBX or the Jersey shore and buy some beach front property. I bet you can get it for a great price this weekend!
“Global Warming is a BELIEF just like any of the other ones out there. The Great Punpkin, the Wizard of Oz, or take your pick. People believe what they want and choose to believe.”
The same goes for those lies Galileo told about the Earth revolving around the Sun, and Columbus’ fantasy that the world was a globe. Just look around. You can see for yourself it’s flat.
/sarcasm font OFF.
The BELIEF that the sun revolved around the earth was disproved.
The BELIEF that there is Global Warming has not been proved.
And, Galilleo wasn’t working from the public dole when he made his discovery. What he did he did in the name of science. Name me one GW scientist working for free…..
Follow the money, folks. Follow the money. Global Warming is all about the MONEY, and not Global Warming.
Follow the money. It went to companies like Solyndra, Solar Trust of America, Bright Source, LSP energy, Abound Solar….. Folks, it is a long list and it was all about the MONEY.
Which, BTW, Dan Casey did not dispute in his post.
Bob H, the only major money factoring into this debate comes from the Big Oil paying people to lie and say climate change isn’t caused by humans. It’s the same tactic Big Tobacco used back in the 60s to “prove” that smoking wasn’t dangerous.
Check out the work of this Koch-backed researcher who learned the truth for himself:
http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2012/0730/Prominent-climate-change-denier-now-admits-he-was-wrong-video
If the same people did not use the debt as the harbinger of doom for their children and grandchildren I might be inclined to cut them some slack for not caring what kind of planet they leave behind.
Yes, I know God put the coal and oil in the ground and meant for us to torture animals and the earth as needed for our own desires forevermore, but the truth is that a 6th grade science fair could give you an idea of what introducing toxins to an atmosphere can do. It is just plain belligerent ignorance to ignore the warnings of credible scientists in favor of political or religious ideology.
I am not suggesting any weather event is caused by man made global warming. BUT…
Science seems to think we are exacerbating the atmospheric problem and the entirety of evidence seems to indicate that if that is true, the cost to recover from the disasters will cost more than the mitigating efforts we should be working more fiercely on. On the chance that some pretty darn smart people are right, we should take more action and try to stem the tide if we can. This is not fun.
Climate change is natural to a great degree, but even so, forest fires are natural too, but we fight them when they encroach. Falling and breaking a bone is natural, but we don’t choose to leave it like that.
Vehicle and Power Plant emissions, factory farm effluents, fracking, business waste, deforestation, and other activities the world has engaged in to some true excess cannot help but have an impact on our air, water and soil. How that affects weather or climate or disasters remains to be seen but it is not a stretch to think they might freakin’ matter!
“The BELIEF that the sun revolved around the earth was disproved.
The BELIEF that there is Global Warming has not been proved.”
Bob, those are logically inconsistent statements.
Does logic matter?
Michael A. Howdyshell in #1: The world and everything in it is put here for our use. I’m certainly not going to alter my life style one bit. I will continue to drive my suburban, ride my BMW motorcycle, cook on my Big Green Egg, use paper products, burn light bulbs, and shot my guns.
It’s that attitude and type of thinking that led to the need for environmental regulations in the first place. From now on whenever I get charged extra because of environmental regulations (like on my electric bill), I’m going to do Jerry Seinfeld’s “Newman!” but with “Howdyshell”. Just for confirmation, you pronounce your name as how-dee-shell? Which is accented most? I want to get it right when I explain how there’s this guy that embodies the ideals that is resulting in everyone paying more for environmental regulations.
Dan,
Is that the best you can do?
Follow the money Dan. Follow the money. Some of it wound up being donated back to whom you are going to vote for for president.
Of course, you don’t care about that……
“The BELIEF that the sun revolved around the earth was disproved.
The BELIEF that there is Global Warming has not been proved.”
BobH, In your first line, you suggested belief = fact until it’s disproven. (And you haven’t disproven global warming, btw). And then you said belief = lie until it’s proved. It doesn’t make sense.
@ Actually Bob H, I was just giving Michael Howdyshell some grief for being so strongly spoken. As it turns out, I’m more of a consumer mentality than he is based on his subsequent posts. But yes, I do support the democrats because when my children inherit all this crappy debt, I would like for them to not only be able to find jobs that pay decently in a society that is focused on moving forward together rather than how it is now where the power and wealth is carefully guarded and politically protected. Furthermore, I would like them to live in a society that actually believes all people are created equally and have laws that reflect that. I would like them to live in a society that grows up a bit to understand that separation of church and state isn’t an attack on religion. It is just a necessary division to protect everyone’s religious freedom. I would like the to live in a society that does not worship profit over the value of individual lives both on a philosophical and pragmatic level. And since I have daughters, I certainly want them to live in a society where women’s rights to equal pay, medical care, privacy, etc. continue evolving instead of being pushed backwards in time.
So yes, I support the democratic party because they are the only ones even remotely discussing these things that matter to me.
Note to Dan: Sorry I let the lil profanity slip by which caused you extra work. Bleh!
Re. #1
If ever I’ve had cause to question the existence of Vogons, my doubts have now been permanently erased.
Bob H you need a short course in logic – specifically deductive reasoning:
syllogism
1: a deductive scheme of a formal argument consisting of a major and a minor premise and a conclusion
Now, an example you can apply to correct your fallacious reasoning:
All woman are mortal, I am a woman, therefore I am mortal.
See how easy that was?
Miriam, you describe my feelings exactly. Obamas not perfect and the democratic party is far from it, but they are the only ones who even talk about the things I care about. The republicans don’t stand for or talk about anything that interests me.
Since Michael has gone all anti-PC on us lately I thought I’d put up a link to a website that would help him shop in a more environmentally sound way. I’m sure you will appreciate the advice the site provides you Michael and that you will follow its advice very assidously.
“GoodGuide’s 0 to 10 rating system helps consumers quickly evaluate and compare products. Our mission is to help you shop your values wherever you shop.”
http://www.goodguide.com/
Shrilliary,
You need a short course in follow the money. Which NONE of you libs is willing to even chase apparently.
Logic says there are pictures of Glacier National park taken in 1900 and then 1930 and the glaciers were receding before any mass manufature of cars took place. Logic says Yosemite National Park and the Lamar valley of Yellowstone National park were caused by glaciers melting and passing through thousands of years ago.
But you apparently don’t care to see that logic……
And Michael Howdyshell,
You’ve just got to watch the video linked below. It will help you so much with your clothing choices.
It takes a while but it’s really good.

Ron May
What do you think about this?

“The same goes for those lies Galileo told about the Earth revolving around the Sun, and Columbus’ fantasy that the world was a globe. Just look around. You can see for yourself it’s flat.”
Right, like the Global Cooling during the 70s? Or maybe trepanning?
“Logic says there are pictures of Glacier National park taken in 1900 and then 1930 and the glaciers were receding before any mass manufature of cars took place. Logic says Yosemite National Park and the Lamar valley of Yellowstone National park were caused by glaciers melting and passing through thousands of years ago.”
And anyway, all of this is evidence that the world is not warming.
#32 You might want to read about the “global cooling” thing before making any more right-wing parroting comments — MMM. For one, come back and tell us what percentage of REAL scientists — versus guys who were trying to gin up some PR — subscribed to that. Which serious scientific journals — versus the popular mags trying to sell issues — genuinely subscribed to the whole cooling thing? Go ahead. Have fun.
By 2030 there may not be any glaciers in Glacier National park. The “contribution” from the decades of the industrial revolution through today are truly undeniable in honest discussions.
“While global warming gets most of the blame for glacier recession, soot pollution from automobiles and industrial chimneys might also play a role. Clean, shiny ice reflects sunlight and remains cool. But dirty, soot-covered ice absorbs more warmth from the sun, causing a glacier to melt more quickly.”
http://www.livescience.com/674-glaciers-disappear-photos.html
You are right, gdad, the thought of ‘man-made Global Cooling’ in the 70s is just like ‘man-made Global Warming’ today. There was very little evidence to support this and it was made popular by a handful of scientists that basically wanted to ‘get their name out there’. Doubly in the case of Stephen Schneider who subscribed and wrote papers supporting BOTH theories!!
Good website, Sandi. Here are some other excerpts from it:
["Nine of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 1995."
—Statement issued Monday by NOAA
A widely reported study last week said 2005 was the warmest on record. But headlines failed to note that the results were not concrete and a new study out this week challenges the findings.]
And this:
[While researchers argue whether Earth is getting warmer and if humans are contributing, a heated debate over the global effect of sunlight boiled to the surface today.
And in this debate there is little data to go on.
A confusing array of new and recent studies reveals that scientists know very little about how much sunlight is absorbed by Earth versus how much the planet reflects, how all this alters temperatures, and why any of it changes from one decade to the next.]
#36 What a silly and dishonest troll you are, MMM.
Unfortunately everything in #36 is true, gdad.
Tissue??
