Swing state results and election night OPEN thread

Okay, I’ve been down at the Roanoke County Registrar’s office watching the county votes come in. Bot back just as the first swing state got called.

Things are looking good for Presoident Obama, who’s running strong in Florida, Ohio, Colorado and perhaps some other states. We’ll update this throughout the night. Here we go, along with some other interesting races:

New HampshireObama projected to take that, with 4 electoral votes. Mitt’s road to 270 gets dicier.

MassachusettsElizabeth Warren projected to beat Scott Brown

IndianaJoe Donnelly beats Tea Party champion Richard Mourdock, who screwed the pooch for his campaign with his silly comments about rape.

WisconsinObama projected to win this one. This means Romney HAS to win Ohio, AND Florida. Vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan loses his own state.

MissouriClaire McCaskill holds onto her Senate seat, which not too long ago seemed like a sure loss to Rep. Todd Akin. He’s the other Tea Party senate candidate who has weird ideas about rape and pregnancy.

Virginia Tim Kaine projected to win over George Allen, who now appears to be a two-time loser. Allen concedes.

Illinois — Democrat Tammy Duckworth dethrones Tea Party hero Rep. Joe Walsh.

North Carolina – Mitt Romney takes it, according to the Associated Press.

Colorado — goes to Obama, according to the Denver Post.

Iowa — projected to go to Obama, according to NBC and CNN and ABC News.

Ohio — projected to go to Obama, according to NBC and Fox News.

Obama wins re-election, according to NBC News and CBS news.

There is a strand of dental floss on which Romney’s campaign hangs on; mathematically possible but highly improbable.

Damn, hate to say I told you so but I told you so. Being right all the time is an incredible burden but one I suffer through with great dignity.

  4. Jason | November 6, 2012 at 10:54 pm

34 states called. Nate Silver and Sam Wang are both perfect. Math works.

  5. Ron May | November 6, 2012 at 10:57 pm

I feel so proud tonight voted for the first time in my life today. And I can say I feel more American tonight than I ever have, I’m 28 but felt this election was so important for my future. Obama 4 more years.

  7. Jason | November 6, 2012 at 11:02 pm

40 states + D.C. called, Silver and Wang still perfect.

  9. Kristen | November 6, 2012 at 11:10 pm

Kaine too. I’m a little surprised.
Maybe the GOP will wake the phluck up and ditch the Tea Party. It’s been am absolute disaster for the GOP.

If this were Japan, McConnell would be committing hari kiri. Alas. I wish nothing but ill for that hate-filled saggy jowled pus-bag.

  21. Steve C | November 6, 2012 at 11:29 pm

Wait a sec; Jethro the Dodo promised us that a sleeping giant was getting ready to wake up and a Romney win would finally allow him to realize his entrepreneurial dreams; Damn, I guess now he has to take the smart bus into Roanoke to rake my yard now.

Oh Suzie – where are you???? Want to come out and play???

  23. gdad | November 6, 2012 at 11:32 pm

#11 And don’t forget that she said Repubs would also easily taker over the Senate. Braaap.

  24. Kristen | November 6, 2012 at 11:32 pm

I bet Zimbabwe’s looking good about now.

  25. Nosaj | November 6, 2012 at 11:34 pm

The difference? Obama took a stand against the obstructionist Congress. This was reflected in the re-election of Obama and the Dems gaining control of the Senate. Also, Obama owning the auto bail out and Romney’s woefully inadequate attempts to spin the auto bail out.

  26. Chuck | November 6, 2012 at 11:36 pm

Going to be an interesting four years. Looks like my prediction was correct. Obama will win the EC but lose the popular vote. Given the gridlock that was already present, it’s hard to imagine things will be any different, let alone get any better. Apparently we have chosen to continue with skyrocketing spending, debt and millions out of work. So now the question is, with four more years, when will the state of the union belong to Obama instead of his predecessor?

  27. Dan Radmacher | November 6, 2012 at 11:36 pm

I think Suzie will be staying in Zimbabwe. Hopefully forever.

  28. Donut Miser | November 6, 2012 at 11:37 pm

I say if Obama is re-elected, then everyone celebrates by buying Suzie a new letter “O” for her computer keyboard.

  29. Chuck | November 6, 2012 at 11:37 pm

Is that your version of reaching out Dan R.?

  30. dobbs | November 6, 2012 at 11:41 pm

As Craig Ferguson says, “It’s a great day for America, everybody!” I am going to try to not be a sore winner, but that my depend on if others can refrain from being sore losers.

Now, let’s hope, for our country’s sake, that Congress will do what it was elected to do now that defeating Obama is no longer an issue.

  31. Dan Casey | November 6, 2012 at 11:42 pm

Romney is not conceding Ohio, or the race, yet.

  32. Chuck | November 6, 2012 at 11:44 pm

CBS just reported that in exit polls, 42% of voters stated that the handling of Superstorm Sandy was a key factor in their choice of who to vote for. Could this have really been won or lost because of that?

  33. Dan Radmacher | November 6, 2012 at 11:45 pm

As I’ve said before, the Republican capacity for self-deception seems limitless.

  34. dobbs | November 6, 2012 at 11:46 pm

Congratulations to Dan Casey for his win in Pennsylva…

Oh, it was Bob, not Dan. Nevermind.

  35. dave | November 6, 2012 at 11:48 pm

  36. Kristen | November 6, 2012 at 11:48 pm

So funny…out of morbid curiosity Ive been checking fox a couple of times. Commercials every time. CNN hasn’t been running them.

  37. Kristen | November 6, 2012 at 11:49 pm

I doubt anyone in New Mexico cares much about Sandy.

  38. Jason | November 6, 2012 at 11:53 pm

    Chuck-
No. Look at the tracking data at 538 or the Princeton Election Consortium. The only time that they didn’t have Obama at a huge probability was immediately after the first debate. After that, Obama steadily regained most of it back BEFORE Sandy.

  39. Chuck | November 6, 2012 at 11:54 pm

What are you referring to Dan R.?

A CBS analyst just acknowledged that one the lessons learned from the successful Obama campaign is to go negative early and ruthlessly define your opponent as a bad person. They said the Romney campaign focused on the economy and the Obama campaign focused on disparaging Romney. It’s the first time I’ve heard anyone admit that the Obama campaign focused almost exclusively on scaring people out of voting for Romney. Looks like you guys can no longer accuse the Republicans of being the party of fear. It appears that this is the new norm in our society.

  40. Dan Casey | November 6, 2012 at 11:56 pm

The Koch Bros., Shel Adelson, and all the other billionaires, and millionaires, and coal barons who tried to buy this election, must be having a real bad night. All that money they spent! All those dollars down the drain!

  41. Sandi Saunders | November 6, 2012 at 11:57 pm

CBS is saying Romney has yet to concede so the crowd and I are still waiting to here from the President! Boooooo!

  42. Nosaj | November 6, 2012 at 11:57 pm

Chuck, while I strongly disagree with your prediction for the next four years, I do agree that it will be problematic if Obama loses the popular vote. No way to spin that. That being said, tonight’s result is best for the country and for the Republican Party.

  43. J.M. White | November 6, 2012 at 11:57 pm

Great day. Flew into Blacksburg airport around 7 this morning and headed straight to the polls. I was in and out in 20 minutes. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to to be back in the state in time to vote, but got finished in Alabama early.

Looks like it’s still Obama time! I’m so far behind on things around here. Is anyone whining yet? Have the “this is the end of America” people gotten here yet? What about the Romney landslide people? Do you think Suzie will come back from “Zimbabwe” or is this the end of her persona?

So many questions! The next few days should be fun around here.

  44. Kristen | November 6, 2012 at 11:59 pm

I have a lot less animosity for Romney than I do towards his backers. I look to see the GOP put an ad on Craigs List for a few community organizers.

  45. Dan Casey | November 7, 2012 at 12:00 am

Dobbs, Bob Casey is a very distant relation. Congrats to him.

  46. Jason | November 7, 2012 at 12:01 am

With Colorado in, the math nerds are 48 for 48. Alaska is still out but you can call that with your eyes closed. That leaves only Florida and Virginia. Both called Florida a coin toss (though Silver technically predicted Obama).

And in four years, should the Democratic nominee be doing well and Silver and Wang accurately report what the data shows, they will again be shouted down by people who think reality is what you want it to be rather than what it is.

  47. Sandi Saunders | November 7, 2012 at 12:01 am

Congrats indeed. I heard him on the radio a few minutes one morning, he seems very intelligent!

Ooo Roanoke got a mention on CNN!

  63. Dan Radmacher | November 7, 2012 at 12:27 am

    Chuck,

Saying Obama ran a negative campaign without acknowledging that Romney ran a campaign based almost totally on lies would be journalistic malpractice. Obama ran a campaign based on fear? Really? I seem to recall Romney bleating about a recession if he didn’t win re-election. And Rush Limbaugh and others, including some on this blog, saying an Obama victory would mean the end of freedom and the United States by 2016. And Obama ran the campaign based on fear? Give me an effing break.

By the way, Romney’s popular vote margin is down to 335. It will not hold.

Abortion, rape controversy shaped key races

By JENNIFER HABERKORN | 11/6/12 11:54 PM EST

Two Republicans who made widely criticized remarks about abortion and rape lost their Senate elections Tuesday, the result of a massive backlash by female voters in states where Republicans should have won handily.

Rep. Todd Akin in Missouri and Richard Mourdock in Indiana each made deeply controversial remarks about rape that played a significant role in shaping their public image, resulting in losses that make it highly unlikely that the Republicans could win control of the Senate.

In addition, freshman Rep. Joe Walsh — who made a controversial remark that abortions are never needed to save a woman’s life, a remark he slightly rolled back amid a huge outcry — lost his reelection bid in Illinois.

    “Suzie says:

So with the congrats out of the way.. who on here wants to predict when the economy really improves? When does unemployment get back to 4%? When does the national debt start to go down? When does illegal immigration stop? What business’s will opening new shops and factories in the USA with the highest corporate tax rate in the world?

  69. Dan Radmacher | November 7, 2012 at 12:40 am

Obama up by 26,000 in the popular vote. Sorry, Chuck.

  71. Jason | November 7, 2012 at 12:43 am

And now with Virginia called, Alaska a gimme, and Florida almost certainly going to Obama, the nerds called EVERY SINGLE FREAKING STATE correct. In the last two elections, Nate Silver has called 99 out of 100 states correctly, and the one he missed was a virtual coin flip.

  77. Dan Radmacher | November 7, 2012 at 2:02 am

And as Obama’s tremendous, conciliatory, uniting speech wraps up, I note that he is now well ahead in the popular vote, leaving conservatives no reason not to accept, finally, that Barack Obama is the President of the United States, and will be for the next four years.

Get used to it, and work with him, instead of against him, to help this country reach its true potential for greatness.

  78. Dan Casey | November 7, 2012 at 3:11 am

  84. Mike Scott | November 7, 2012 at 5:31 am

How about Karl Rove trying to get Fox to back off their projections.? There you had the leader of one of nation’s biggest super pacs trying to influence TV coverage in real time.

Still, I always thought Nate Silver did the best job as anyone in predictions. As he said on Colbert, “It’s just not that hard to read the polls and make an average”, yet the Republican machine’s own polling was clearly biased. It’s an easy thing to do, but not helpful if you need to know the truth.

  85. Miriam | November 7, 2012 at 5:37 am

What I don`t know…How many promises will obama keep ? We`ll see. What I do know…America is on the verge of financial disaster..FACT. America has always been the first on hand to help the people in distant lands when violent weather strikes, or an opressive dictator murders…FACT. Given the inability of our great leaders to cease the massive spending, we will not be able to help the people of these lands like we once did. You will truly reap what you`ve sewn.

  100. Other John | November 7, 2012 at 8:51 am

Several of my conservative friends are in a funk this morning…some claim that they’ll see everyone in the soup lines by summer. Another boldly predicts that bread and basic staples will be 900% more expensive and the country will be in virtual collapse and near internal war within the year. Others are calling for a revolution, saying the election was stolen. The couple folks that I know who aren’t off the deep end are still distraught, saying the country needs to be prayed for to survive a second term.

It’s like the anti-Christ got elected on the eve of the apocalpyse or something. It’s just an election…lighten up a bit, have a drink, and celebrate that you woke up this morning, as an American. At the end of it, what really changed? Obama is still the President, the Senate is still controlled by Democrats, and the House is still controlled by Republicans. $6 billion spent on the election and nothing is substantially different than it was yesterday. It’s not the end of the world…you’ve got a month and 2 weeks until that!

  101. Debbie | November 7, 2012 at 9:14 am

My deeply conservative brother is just beside himself. He’ll get over it.

Me too, Debbie. And “Elections have consequences”.

  103. Jason | November 7, 2012 at 9:19 am

I find it interesting that between the two of them, Romney and Ryan had associations with four states and lost all four.

  108. matt | November 7, 2012 at 10:27 am

Hey Shrill, at least you no longer need to lie about your citations and intentionally mislead the readers of your comments, right? I know you only did that a few times (at least you were only caught a few times), but now, none of that is necessary.

  109. Debbie | November 7, 2012 at 11:51 am

OJ, I saw posts on Facebbok this morning by conservative friends who are acting like the world has ended. Most of them saw the movie 2016 and they’ve bought all of the doom scenarios hook, line and sinker. I find it extremely humorous and extremely sad.

  110. Other John | November 7, 2012 at 12:19 pm

Yeah Debbie, I’ve seen the same on Facebook and Twitter. It’s sad, but not surprising. Most of them only pay attention to like-minded infotainment sources like Fox, Rush Limbaugh, National Review, Beck, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, etc, etc…so they all thought Romney was going to win comfortably. Now they’re absolutely beside themselves, acting even more unhinged than before the election. They believed what they wanted to believe, rather than looking at reality with an objective eye (common problem for conservatives…I know, I used to be a conservative with the same limitation).

I remember working on the Dole campaign in 1996. We were bummed that Clinton won a second term, but accepted it and the next day we moved forward. I didn’t get a chance to work on the Bush campaign in 2000 since I was in my first year at VT, but I stayed up watching those returns and kept glued to the news until Florida was decided. That seems to be when things started changing in earnest, in terms of how people react to Presidential elections. It has really accelerated with the 2008 and 2012 elections, and I don’t think it gets better…especially if the GOP continues its hard-right turn.

Even Neal Boortz is fed up (according to his Twitter feed this morning)…he said he’s going back to Naples and officially changing his registration in Florida to Libertarian from Republican…he’s tired of their social policy direction. A lot of people are.

I am a little surprised that the third party vote tally was so small, but then again none of them made any real noticeable waves…and neither the Democrats nor the Republicans were willing to let them have that chance anyway.

  111. gdad | November 7, 2012 at 12:22 pm

#110 Funny workplace right-wing comment from yesterday: If Obama wins again, I’m moving to Canada.

Right matt, because you don’t want to believe knowable facts, they must be lies…still deluded. Because any citation not from RW “news” sources such as FauxNews, Limbaugh etc, cannot possibly be true. Stick with that old meme, your credibility isn’t in danger as you lost that many many posts ago.

Goober (er little matt) has been strangely silent for the past week or so since I called his bluff on the spelling contest and since he finally recognized that his heroes were about to get an old fashioned butt whipping. Now he thinks he can just slip back in with a gratuitous insult or two on ageism to complement his usual inanities. All hat and no cattle.
I thought maybe that big wind from Sandy had finally just blown him away.

  116. Kristen | November 7, 2012 at 12:47 pm

I don’t get what’s with Republicans. When Democrats lose, we lose and that’s it. Republicans can’t lose an election without acting as though the earth is spinning off its axis and that something is profoundly wrong in the universe. You ran, you lost, get over it. Sheesh.

They’re crying because the country is leaving them behind. They can either get with the program or consider themselves permanently marginalized, because this country has proven that it’s not going backwards. Or to Zimbabwe.

  117. Shrillary | November 7, 2012 at 1:02 pm

Dave @114 – I hear you. “Tears of joy” – from your keyboard to who ever listens in the universe. I too hope I never have to hear the names of the loser republicans again [Romney and his queen, Allen, and all those tea party candidates who lost their seats].

Sadly however, they will become pontificating, bloviating pundits on Faux and Friends and we will be assaulted with their quotes from the RW parrots on Dan’s blog. Ugh.

  118. Dan Casey | November 7, 2012 at 1:23 pm

I have a pal, with whom I bet on every presidential election. It’s usually a 6-pack of beer and I get the Dem and he takes the Republican.

This year the wager was something different: my plate of homemade crab cakes against his awesome smoked whole Boston butt. I thought that would be a fitting metaphor-wager for a Romney loss. :)

He called me last night around 8:30, when I was over at the RoCo Registrar, watching returns come in. “Hey, have you caught those crabs yet?” he laughed. “Are you kidding?” I ribbed back. “Have you got that smoker fired up?”

Then he want to bed so I caught up with him this morning. He was quite upset, uncharacteristically upset. This from a guy who, although he is very RW, has a GREAT sense of humor. One of the best I’ve ever encountered.

Frankly, I was kind of shocked. But I will enjoy his pulled pork . . .

  119. Sandi Saunders | November 7, 2012 at 1:27 pm

I don’t get out much, but my husband assured me last night that there were people coming unglued all over this valley. Apparently he is right. Even someone I love who seemed so open minded was shouting on FB about how much “your Obamacare is gonna cost me”!

  120. Kristen | November 7, 2012 at 1:28 pm

It’s as though all things being equal, Republicans are supposed to always win. And if they don’t, something’s irretrievably broken and needs to be addressed. The Democrats are just viewed as sporadic irritations on the straight road to Republican hegemony.

In the US, incumbents generally win, barring something remarkable like a fabulous fantastic challenger (Reagan) or an unusually unpopular incumbent who had really bad luck (Carter). Romney was no Reagan and Obama is nowhere near being Carter. I don’t understand the shock on the part of some.

  121. matt | November 7, 2012 at 1:37 pm

    Hey Mr. Clean (Cue Ball),

I’m not sure what you are talking about. When you made silly references to having a spelling contest a week or two ago, I just chalked it up to you being so old that you were simply bat-sh*t crazy. But, if I remember correctly, I did ask you if you wanted to hold said contest at your place of residence and if that was Friendship Manor or Richfield or Our Lady of the Valley or whatever. I don’t think you responded, old man. Or maybe I just couldn’t read your response, since most of your posts end up lookng lik thise wehn yu r finshd.

And since the people voted to leave the House in Republican hands, I am sure Obama will pass some wonderful and meaningful legislation over the next few years. I look forward to the coming circus, the continued high unemployment, the higher taxes, the increase in food stamp recipients, the increase in those living off the government, the higher college tuition, higher energy costs, higher food costs, the lack of transparency, the extreme polarization, and the coming results from the “investigation” in Benghazi (among many other amazing Democratic accomplishments). Go team.

  122. Sandi Saunders | November 7, 2012 at 1:43 pm

They believed their own hype, or hate, as the case may be.

  123. matt | November 7, 2012 at 1:44 pm

“Right matt, because you don’t want to believe knowable facts, they must be lies…”

Oh no, Shrill. I was just talking about the time when I caught you trying to pawn off an article and data as if it was from 2012, when it was actually from 2008. You linked the article, and then in your own words above the link, you added a false date and a false sentence that was never from the article. You tried to make it appear as if the data you were quoting was from 2012, but it was from four years ago. You knew it, so you added your own lies to make it appear as if the data was current. That is all I was talking about. You no longer have to lie anymore.

  124. Mike Scott | November 7, 2012 at 1:45 pm

Dan@118….I know the butt of which you speak…and it will be tender, indeed.

  125. Other John | November 7, 2012 at 2:32 pm

Kristen, taking a cue from my dad…he (and many conservatives I know) believe that Obama is the single-worst President, ever…far worse than Carter. They listen to and watch the right-wing political shows, and refuse to accept anything from any other source as potentially being correct. It’s their way or the highway…they will not accept being wrong, so it always has to be some nefarious outside influence that caused the results to be against their expectations. Media bias, fraud, skewed polling, the UN, immigrants, you name it.

Regarding Romney, my dad despised him in 2008, calling him a “liberal New England RINO” whom he’d never support. Fast forward to 2012, and he was full on the bandwagon, saying Romney is a great leader, a “true American”, etc. My dad specifically mentioned that he ‘knows leadership, and Obama is not a leader.’ A few moments later, he extolled the virtues of tax avoidance, calling it ‘AMERICAN’, as if to justify Romney’s tax-avoidance schemes and make himself feel more patriotic for dodging his own taxes for several years, before the IRS got wise and cracked down.

He, by the way, still blames the IRS for it…thinks he did nothing wrong, that it’s just an IRS conspiracy and that his Federal taxes are outrageously high…they total about $150 a month out of his government pension, and he has never held a private-sector job in his adult life. Heck, he hasn’t even worked since 1993 when he finished his 20 in the Navy. I pay way, way more than that in a paycheck every 2 weeks, and I’m not complaining.

I don’t see government as evil (flawed, yes), nor do I have the worldview of liberals that he has. To him, his mind is still stuck in the Cold War and McCarthyism, where anyone who is a liberal must be a communist, and anything remotely liberal is inherently anti-American. So any proposal pushed forth by a liberal is a secret commie plot to destroy this country (CFL’s, recycling, fuel-efficient cars, hybrids, clean air, clean water, healthcare reform, you get the idea), even if it was originally proposed by a Republican. I don’t know if he believes the birther/secret Muslim madness, but I do know he took time to remind me in 2008 that Hussein is Obama’s middle name, and “you know what that means.”

It makes me sad, because as much as I know that respecting one’s elders is a virtue, he has dstroyed almost all respect I once had for him. He is now the consumate hypocrite…saying one thing, while doing the exact opposite. Be a good citizen, and he dodges paying his taxes. Respect women, while he abuses my sister verbally and emotionally (CPS got called on him more than once). Don’t smoke, as he lights up another. I could keep going, but you get the picture.

He’s a sad man, in a twisted, confined worldview that he built for himself, that he is too paralyzed to break out of and realize just how much no one really likes to be around him. We can talk sports and weather, and that’s it. I’ve seen him twice in 6 years, and both times were to help him try to assemble paperwork for getting his taxes straight, and only then because he had his head stuck in the sand so long (literally, he ignored IRS letters for years), that he feared losing the house and going to prison, and I felt like it was the right thing to do. He got lucky, they’re only docking him $190 a month for 5 years, provided he stays current and files.

  126. Shrillary | November 7, 2012 at 2:56 pm

All over the RW blogs there is gnashing of the teeth, conspiracy theories, and really quite a lot of unhinged rhetoric. This is what happens when someone exclusively listens to only RW media which claimed up until late last night that Romney was the projected winner in a landslide.
Many are excoriating Dick Morris calling him a liar – [their only fact based statement], and commenting on Karl Rove’s not allowing the FAUX commentators to call Ohio for President Obama although all indications were in the President’s favor…Rove was beside himself and got up and walked away…I really enjoyed it.

  127. Shrillary | November 7, 2012 at 3:15 pm

matt – a suggestion: scroll past my posts, ignore FACTS, and any citation I provide. You obviously love the life you lead in your ignorant bubble. A world where facts are lies, and you are the “fact” patrol…that just is too funny.

No response necessary as you keep wishing to “catch” me in some imaginary trap…so continue to wish, and of course, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

  128. matt | November 7, 2012 at 3:54 pm

“No response necessary as you keep wishing to “catch” me in some imaginary trap..”

No, Shrill. We both know that I ALREADY caught you lying and intentionally trying to mislead others. I never said I was the fact patrol, I simply called you out for adding dates and sentences to a linked article that were not from the original author. They have a word for that in academia, Shrill. I’m sure you know what it is…

  129. Shrillary | November 7, 2012 at 6:28 pm

matt – really give it up – you not only look slightly unhinged but childish and immature…I have better things to do than respond to anymore of your drivel. But thanks for playing. End of your imaginary “gotcha” game.

  130. matt | November 7, 2012 at 8:20 pm

Shrill, no need to get irritated. All I’ve been trying to point out to you is that you no longer have to try and deceive others by adding lies to your quotes like you have done previously. Unhinged and childish people do that, Shrilly. But the election is over, so you don’t have to stoop so low anymore.

    Cheers!

    Comment by matt — November 7, 2012 @ 3:54 pm

My comment is what the hell does that mental midget know about “academia”?
That’s just more of his “I’ve got a master’s from Hollins” bravado. I’m sure he thinks we’re all impressed.

  132. matt | November 8, 2012 at 8:30 am

    Hey Lollipop,

It seems you are defending plagiarism, eh? I guess your hypocrisy has no boundaries. I am not surprised. My comment to Shrilly had nothing to do with degrees, Lollipop. And it certainly wasn’t as pathetic and weak as your recent request for us to “compare the sizes of our master’s degrees.” Lol. You have issues, old man.

  133. dave | November 8, 2012 at 12:10 pm

    Goober

So I see that you did read the post that I sent back to you about the spelling contest and Dan as a referee after all. Just a few posts back you denied having seen it. When your pathetic little bluffs get called
you slink away in silence and lay low for a few days before darting in again with sneak attacks like a vermin who just can’t control its baser urges. The callowness of your youth and inexperience grow more evident with each piece of silliness that you post. And all your little references
to “academia” which are supposed to impress us with your gigantic intellect aren’t working.

  134. matt | November 8, 2012 at 12:31 pm

    Hey Lollipop,

Like I said previously, I responded to your silly challenge to meet up and have a spelling contest. I never claimed to have not seen your request. You need to go back and re-read my post, Cue Ball. I even asked you where you wanted to meet. I guess your reading skills are as terrible as your spelling and typing skills too, eh old man? I love how you prattle on about my “youth” and “inexperience” yet you are probably in your 70s and you want to meet up and have spelling contests and compare the sizes of our master’s degrees! You can’t make this stuff up!

  135. dave | November 8, 2012 at 12:52 pm

    Goober

You denied having read my second post to you about the spelling issue and pretended not to know what I was talking about. That second post was the only one where I mentioned your master’s degree. Then you referenced that
in your post above. Nice dissembling but you lied to try to save face.
Snivel on off into your corner and see if your Mommy will come help you blow your nose and wipe away the crocodile tears. And ave the rest of your trash for somebody who cares.

  136. matt | November 8, 2012 at 1:22 pm

    No Lollipop,

I never denied seeing your post about the spelling contest. Like I already said, I responded to your post on that thread, and I even asked you where you would like to have the contest. In fact, old man, the comment in which you asked me to bring my master’s degree and compare it with yours came from that exact thread. Hello? Anybody home, old guy? You are continually failing to recognize these facts. I am sure it is on purpose in an attempt to save face from your flailing argument. Either that, or your reading skills truly are on par with your spelling and typing skills. Betr luk nxte tyme, Loleepop.

  137. Sandi Saunders | November 8, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I suppose in some alternate universe, where he is apparently from, lower case matt can claim to have been enlightened. He went from coming here with lies to tracking and exposing what he determines to be lies. I do not remember that thread the way he does so maybe he should enlighten us all and prove his point by linking to it. Then we can gauge whether he has made progress or reverted to type.

  138. dave | November 8, 2012 at 2:30 pm

    dear little mattie

So confused and so self righteous. Go back to the thread. First I posted telling you that I would be happy to meet you in a spelling contest any time. That was after you so childishly made fun of my keyboard skills, which I have repeatedly said were not good. You then responded that I should name the time and place. My second post to which you never responded made the issue more specific. That was the one in which I referenced your vaunted masters degree. You never responded to it but just melted away into the night. In a previous post on this thread you claimed you never heard back from me and claimed you never saw that post.
Then you made a post which referenced that comment about the masters degrees which you claimed you never saw. You lied to cover up your
embarrassment and to try to save what was left of your face. Now that we have all that cleared up, I think your Mom is calling you in from the playground. You’d better go see what she wants before you are grounded for the week.

  139. Shrillary | November 8, 2012 at 2:52 pm

Somewhere on this thread I hear the sound of a broken record…time to turn him off…[cough cough matt, cough cough]. Really just a “simple” annoyance to be ignored.

  140. matt | November 8, 2012 at 3:26 pm

    Lollipop,

Let’s take this step by step so the elderly can follow along:

“…by all means, name the time and place, old man. Should I just come over to your place? Would that be Richfield, Friendship Manor, or the Park Oak Grove?”–That was my response to your silly challenge on the older thread, Cue Ball. So, you see, your claim that I never responded is a big fat lie. But, we already knew that, didn’t we chromedome?

Now, on that thread, you did come back with “You name the place and the time (preferably after 5 PM and before 3 AM.” But davey, as you can see, I had already asked you this question. You were just repeating what I said, deflecting really. You never answered my question, you dodged it. Then you threw in some more hot air and finished with “And bring along your masters degree. I’ll let you compare it with mine.” Lol. Really?

    Next:

“In a previous post on this thread you claimed you never heard back from me and claimed you never saw that post.” –More lies. davey, as I have proven above, you never responded to my question. You simply re-stated what I had already asked you. You never gave an answer. So, in essence, even though you did put some words on the screen, they cannot be considered a response.

Lik I sed errlyier, keepe onn tryng.

  141. matt | November 8, 2012 at 3:29 pm

Yeah, Shrilly didn’t like that I brought up the fact that I caught her adding dates and sentences to an article that weren’t from the original author, and then trying to pass it off like it was. Don’t blame you one bit, Shrilly.

Sandi, since you are always on the quest for truth, I know you would never do something so pathetic. You have my respect in that regard.

  142. dave | November 8, 2012 at 4:29 pm

So here’s Goobers response yesterday at 1:37 PM

I’m not sure what you are talking about. When you made silly references to having a spelling contest a week or two ago, I just chalked it up to you being so old that you were simply bat-sh*t crazy. But, if I remember correctly, I did ask you if you wanted to hold said contest at your place of residence and if that was Friendship Manor or Richfield or Our Lady of the Valley or whatever. I don’t think you responded, old man. Or maybe I just couldn’t read your response, since most of your posts end up lookng lik thise wehn yu r finshd.

Now today you acknowledge that I did in fact respond and that you chose to ignore that response and then lied saying “I don’t think you responded ,old man”. That pretzel position you just twisted yourself into is highly reminiscent of the twists of a certain recent GOP presidential candidate. Better call Mommy to get you untwisted before you lose the rest of the circulation to your brain and suffer still more damage. You clearly can’t afford to do without many more brain cells.
    :)

  143. matt | November 9, 2012 at 8:28 am

    Hey Melon,

You seem to be confused about what the word “response” means. I thought I very clearly made this point in my last post. You did write some words down, but you never actually responded to my question. Does that not make sense, really old guy? I was the one who initially asked you where you would like to meet. Your reply to my question was a non-response, little davey. This is what I mean when I say “I don’t think you responded ,old man.” You didn’t. We both know you didn’t. You dodged the question, Cue Ball.

And your last three comments to me on this thread have made reference to my mother. Lol. Come up with something new, Lollipop. For obvious reasons, I’ll leave your mother out of this.

  144. Dan Casey | November 9, 2012 at 8:52 am

BTW, the VPA recognized my reporting skills numerous times over the years. As did UPI.

Metro Columnist Dan Casey knows a little bit about a lot of things but not a heck of a lot about most things. That doesn't keep him from writing about them, however. So keep him honest!

He welcomes your rants, raves and considered opinions, so long as the language is civil (i.e. no four-letter words). He'll read all your posts and may or may not respond.
